They didn’t kill the franchise. More like the franchise is stumbling right now. As someone mentioned before, DmC could be like a side game kinda like the bajillion Megaman side games.
Plus they did mention that DMC5 isn’t off the table.

Yeah I remember a JP supervisor of DmC stating in a gametrailers interview that if fans wanted DMC5 then it could make a return.
The lag on that TV is fucking horrible
They rushed out and screwed up DMC4. If they take their time(which they won’t now with their new plans), they could do a solid, if not great DMC5. I dunno why after ONE game, the throw their arms up in defeat. DMC2 was far worse than DMC4 and they didn’t admit defeat back then. And they fucked up ROYALLY with DMC2. And then there’s SF Alpha 1, early SFII titles, SFII NG, and so on. ASW had that not so great GG Isuka and GG 2 Overture and still kept going. I can’t even stomach playing a KOF that’s older than KOF 97. I refuse to play any Tekken that’s older than Tag 1 etc. The franchise stumbling is BS.
You have a bad tv?
Oh god, this post is the definition of irony. I love it.
That last line… now your argument seems so much stronger!
Also, after all this time, the game still doesn’t seem to appeal. The demo was broken as hell and the combat didn’t click with me at all. Combat feels more like god of war with the angel weapons, but the game doesn’t have the same grand scale or adventure feel to make it work for me. After seeing more of the environments and experiencing a bit myself, they are nowhere near as amazing as they seemed in the early material, they seem more like levels from an old school wacky platformer. Actually, they all remind me of the early circus level from Psychonauts if you know what that is. Pulling platforms towards you with a whip constantly isn’t fun.
Your analogy doesn’t work as is. You’re allowing for no gray area. A more accurate version of your analogy would go like this. Capcom would be critically acclaimed for the best Sushi sauces in the world. They serve the same sauces for nearly a decade. Capcom hires Tameem to make a whole new set of sauces for the sushi. The new sauce is a different color and tastes radically different because it uses western ingredients in the stead of soy etc. People are offput by the color and and the different aroma, and refuse to try it. “This isn’t Capcom Sushi! They’re serving the shit with ketchup now” Mind you, Tameem’s new sauces taste nothing like ketchup but since people refuse to try it they have no idea. The ones that do try it only point out stupid axiomatic things about the sauces as “flaws” such as: there’s no soy in this. It’s not Capcom sushi without that specific flavor!"
No shit it’s not soy sauce. If Capcom just wanted to keep making their shit they would’ve done it.
Okay I’m abandoning your analogy because I hate it, but you get the point.
Is “appeal to casuals” such a horrible thing? So, they’re making it possible for gamers too dumb to have precise timing and creativity to have fun with the game too…that’s bad? They’re not actually forcing you to mash wildly to beat the game. In usual DMC fashion, DmC gives you the freedom to play how you want to play. You’re almost trying to say that just because the game can be played dumb, then the game is dumb itself. Not at all. I’ve played Underwatch mehhhh maybe 50 times, I don’t mash my way through. And my creativity is still finding new things to do. I don’t even have all of the melee weapons with the demo and only ONE of the guns (of which I believe there are 3 total).
I guess what I’m saying is yea, you have every right to not like it for whatever reasons you don’t like it, but I have every right to like the changes and still consider myself a true DMC fan (which I always have been). Half the time I’m not even outright defending the game as much as calling out stupid/unfounded assertions.
I mean the game is certainly not perfect. My gripes.
It seems unlikely given all the comments they’ve made about Dante being “outdated” and all the antagonizing they’ve intentionally done towards the fanbase, but I suppose there is a chance that this is some sort of New Coke conspiracy Capcom is pulling. I don’t see how they can make DMC5 and manage to not have to admit to being either deceptive or just plain incorrect. Megaman, RE, and SF are huge brands and even those can barely maintain more than one mainline series nowadays, I don’t expect a brand in a lower weightclass to receive that kind of commitment from Capcom.
No, my assertion is that simply putting together some variation of the basic ingredients (fish and rice for Sushi) doesn’t mean it’s going to be the same thing. Capcom and Tameem says that if the game’s got a dude named Dante, swords and guns, a style meter, and demons – it’s Devil May Cry. People disagreed because it’s blatantly false, and they tried to spin it into “oh you’re just mad because we forgot to include the hair!”. Also, you seem to think that because people hated the idea of the game when it was announced, and hated playing the game when they got the demo, it means that their opinions are invalidated because it hasn’t changed. It’s equally possible that they made an assumption based on an abundance of evidence (NT’s games being ass, “feel of 60fps”, etc), and their predictions were simply confirmed. True, Tameem’s sushi didn’t give me food poisoning and I actually like rice crispies, but it’s still complete bullshit.
The problem is that “casuals” don’t actually exist. It’s just a blanket term for people that don’t give a shit about your game, and it doesn’t mean that they aren’t good at games in general or that they’re equally disinterested in every other game. Capcom’s current policy is to dilute their franchises and make sure all their games fit established industry norms. But it means that by making Resident Evil appeal to COD fans, you’re not actually making new Resident Evil fans, they’re just COD fans that bought RE6, and you won’t have a fanbase if you lost your original fans along the way. I won’t get into what’s wrong with DmC’s combat mechanics because they’ve been covered in this thread, and when those issues were brought up to Tameem and Capcom they responded the same way (“Then stop playing it wrong”) you just did. The worst part is that DmC is actually superficially similar to previous DMCs, they didn’t even try to make something totally new, but every decision they made was an objective downgrade. I’m not going to like a game, especially after Capcom’s told me to not stick around, because it isn’t ABSOLUTE ass.
I’m just gonna drop this:
And say that I played the demo and I was quite disappointed due to how easy it seemed to me.
Dante looks oddly…at home in that pic.
I’m scared too…
Does this mean I welcome him into the Official Church of MGR too? I’m confused…
Well that point is just wrong. Since the demo has released I’ve seen multiple play on my console in my living room who were absolute ass and loved it. Direct quote “Yo…this shit is nuts” wildly mashing Rebellion combos. They have an earnest interest in the game and a fairer entry point. You think they would have been able to get out of Dante’s shop in DA? No, probably not. A casual would be defined simply as having a higher personal learning curve than your average person. If there was no such thing as a true casual then we’d never get new players into the fighting game community. They’re simply new people that tried fighting games out, liked them, and took the time to learn. People can say what they want about MVC3 (SF4 as well) but the game brought in new blood because of it’s accessibility.
You won’t get into what’s wrong with DmC’s combat because you’d have to acknowledge that it’s simply what you don’t like. The game may only run at about 28.6 FPS but it’s not SLOW. There are variations in the rhythms of the weapons, yea, but go back to Lucifer. Lucifer ground combos were PAINFULLY SLOW. That’s how the shit was designed. There’s meant to be a difference in slow weapon and fast weapon rhythm, it provides variation to combat flow, which I think is a welcome aspect.
That’s because like PS All Stars proved, this Dante looks better everywhere else but in his own game. Is that…good?
Say whatever you want bro, but nothing is more exciting than seeing 4 Slayers do a pilebunker at the same time or 2 Potemkin do a Potemkin Buster or 2 Sol do a dustloop on a incautious opponent
Also, i thinkg that GG2:O was ahead of its time, DOTA games are now popular with the masses, GG2:O was released too early, plus it also give us Holy Orders 4 and all the new GDLK tracks, the same with Isuka, so it wasn’t a total loss
people love being fooled. it makes it look like they were working on it after the game was made.
Wow DMC1 is fucking HARD
Damn right it is. The enemies dont fuck around.
