Just a heads up, the PC version of DMC4 is on Origin for $6.80.
A lot of the videos people posted a while back got me in the mood to play it again and I can’t find my 360 copy anywhere. Perfect timing.
Really? You could also say that DmC is just an unlikeable punk doing infinite combos on poorly designed demons. Even if you put it that way, Metal Gear Rising sounds a lot cooler.
The reason why so many people talk about Metal Gear Rising and the like in this thread is because it is a sort of spiritual successor to the Devil May Cry games, AKA what this DmC should have been.
Why so emo? Why are you defending such an average game throughout this thread? Truly baffling, sir. I didn’t know The Crow still had fans.
My last post was entirely sarcasm, mang.
Show me some gameplay that would suggest that this is even remotely true. Nothing I’ve seen reminds me of DMC/Bayo in the least. Looks like Ninja Gaiden with slow mo slicing and God of War set pieces.
Why do I feel like DmC is gonna turn out to be an amazing game while MGR proves to be the disappointment? I’m not wishing for that to happen but, it would be soooo funny if it did.
That’s easy, Platinum hasn’t made a bad game yet, and Ninja Theory hasn’t made a good game yet. I don’t get why you’re so fixated in visuals, because the part about a dude using a katana sword against soldiers is about the only thing MGR has in common with NG. I guess that’s why this whole “fanboys are only mad because Dante’s hair is the wrong color” argument that Capcom and the gaming media are pushing resonates so much with you.
By the way, people aren’t saying that the game is bad because you’re and idiot and you’re defending it, they’re saying you’re an idiot because you’re defending a bad game. One’s ad hominem and the other isn’t.
Heavenly Sword
But Heavenly Sword was a mediocre addition to the genre, with dumbed down controls, boring combat and horrible characters.
There is no problem (with me at least) if he likes DmC, the problem is that he is an idiot regardless his taste
What you described was God of War. I do think Heavenly Sword is mediocre it’s characters are not horrible in the slightest.
They haven’t made a good game, it doesn’t mean that they’ve only made bad games. But hey, you’re getting Heavenly Sword 2, too bad they titled it Devil May Cry.
The story was awesome and had awesome memorable characters. As for the gameplay, it’s not DMC but it’s still good.
I couldn’t give any form of fuck for the characters in the game, but maybe I need to correct what I said.
''None of the characters were interesting enough for me to give a shit about" which I only mentioned because the game has nothing else to rest on, except good graphics (at the time) and somewhat good environments, which is one of the only amazing things Ninja Theory manages to do with each game.
True dat, only an idiot would question MGR
Boy, what else does that sound like, chaps?
Heavenly Sword had a good story with memorable characters? Wat? Everything about the game was straight up average.
That doesn’t addressed what I asked at all. I want to see GAMEPLAY that would show that MGR has the least bit in common with the DMC series. It has nothing to do with fixating on visuals.
Also, your wording is a little strange so I’m not sure the exact point of the last thing you said but bad by who’s standards? A small section of gaming elites who want their niche series to have no broader appeal? Who use tons of lame excuses to call it bad, even excuses that contradict each OTHER?
Yea, that doesn’t concern me in the slightest.
As far as people talking about track record for developers: Naughty Dog’s first games were Way of the Warrior and Rings of Power…developers can improve.

Here you go. As you can see, a lot of the moves are very similar to those in Bayo and DMC.
I will agree that it does look like Ninja Gaiden in some ways (mostly the parrying), but the game plays more like Bayonetta than anything else I have played. Trust me. The blade mode mechanic is a bit like a combination of witch time and torture attacks, but instead of finishing the enemies off in a set way, you can choose however you want to slice and dice them. If you still can’t make the connections, allow me to break it down for you.
Further comparisons to Bayonetta (mostly):
-Raiden is pretty much Bayo with Shuraba
-The two attack buttons (square and triangle / X and Y) usually correspond with the character’s arms (square/ X) and feet (triangle / Y)
-Raiden has moves that greatly resemble the Stinger, Afterburner Kick, Bayo’s 360 degrees spinning attacks, and Bayo’s tetsuzanko
-If you mash the triangle button with Raiden, you will do a combo that is very similar to Bayo’s combo where you kick the enemy repeatedly until you deliver a final thrust
-Many of these moves are similar in execution as well as animation
-The enemies do a post-mortem explosion the same way they do in Bayonetta
-Raiden has high heels
I’m going to assume that there are more similarities, considering we have only seen a very limited amount of Metal Gear Rising.
MGR is designed with a mechanical focus on action gaming (60fps, high difficulty, precise controls, depth/replayability, etc.), and doesn’t do absurdly dumb stuff like removing lock on but then having enemies that can be only damaged by one specific weapon, etc. With all the mechanics demonstrated so far, it probably lies somewhere between Bayonetta and Ninja Gaiden, because there’s less of a focus on combos, but the emphasis isn’t on blocking like it is in NG but rather on dodging/parrying like Bayo. I’d agree that there’s little resemblance to DMC, but it’s probably closer to it on the action gaming evolutionary tree than any of NT’s efforts.
In any case, let me make an analogy to explain this situation to you. Imagine there’s a restaurant, Capcom, that was really popular in the past but it’s been in the decline for the last couple of years. To attract new customers, they hire a chef named Tameem, who puts out this new dish which is just a bowl of sardines and rice crispies. He calls it Sushi, and a ton of people get really, really, really angry. Capcom accuses them of judging it without tasting it, and criticizing this “sushi” just for being different. Then a bunch of people start defending Tameem, saying that it’s sushi because it has fish and rice, and people are just being biased against rice crispies and sardines, which are both actually delicious. Then people start tasting it, and say that it isn’t all that good and tastes nothing like sushi, so the defenders accuse them of judging it without seeing the rest of the menu. Eventually, people like you come along and tell people who like sushi that if this bowl of sardines and rice crispies wasn’t called sushi, they wouldn’t be angry about it. While true, it misses the entire point, because by that same logic there’s no reason why Capcom would call it sushi in the first place.
Capcom kills a franchise and replaces it with generic schlock, and then blames fans for not liking it enough. At every opportunity, Capcom’s told fans that their views are outdated and peculiar, completely grind away their franchises into generic titles to appeal to “casuals”, but then turn around and expect consumer loyalty. The only reason this game (Heavenly Sword 2) is called Devil May Cry is to exploit the history of the brand, because everything about the game and everyone involved in making it has been consistently condescending and dismissive of both the franchise and its fans, so if Capcom wants to use the DMC name to sell this game, I have every right to hate them for trying it.
