Yeah Capcom definitely gotta get their shit straight. And yeah it’s not only a Capcom problem. But are ways to still use your smaller series. Character action is a sorta niche genre, like I know people who love Dante and Hayabusa but don’t necessarily play the game seriously. But the style of the games keep them middle ground.
DMC 4 sold 2 mil, and Bayo sold 2 mil being a new IP, of a mid-tier genre(in terms of popularity) with a character that was goofy af.
Capcom could’ve looked and said “you DMC4 sold 2 mil, a new IP of the same genre sold 2 mil. I think we make some $$ with a good 5th installment” but they make DmC lol.
This AAA or bust business model is dumb because it blinds companies from doing stuff like releasing smaller series as digital titles(Capcom got the idea it seems with strider) or making certain series on handheld, or do what Nintendo has been doing and making something that isn’t indie-tier but not full $60 retail-tier and drop it right at $40.
But all I know is Capcom better make DMC5, I know these niggas made some money from RE HD and they got MH to fall back on. Unless all of their resources are working on SFV they can start on DMC5. Because at this point all these niggas got are 3 franchises or 4 I guess since people still fuck with Phoenix Wright
