i have gone back to third strike for a few days to test out my stick.
i think it helps you get better because it is much fatser and requires you to learn the proper precise inputs.
The “oh shit, I didn’t mean to do that or why isn’t the move I want coming out?” factor is slowly subsiding. Slowly… but I’m still getting that every now and then.
After a solid week of practice I am now pulling out fadc ultras once every 2/3 tries, oddly enough on the 2p side, which on a pad is my weak side. Im still having a wee bit of shit trying to pull it off on the right side but moves are comin out fluid and without hesitation.
Gong onto combo’s and blockstrings this week!
Yestyerday was my first day with a stick and I could hit fadc ultra maybe 20% of the time. Today I up to around 50%. I think after a week I’ll be totally transitioned.
what exactly are blockstrings pls. I really dont understand. is it beating opponent and he cant do anything?
omg your all bemu gods!!! i got it for about 10 days and I still suck. I cant hit fadc consistently to the right
Have a look on this forum dude, there is a VERY informative guy called Kumaoni, he has 2 vids on youtube which explain in depth.
I have watched these now and have a great understanding of them, but I do not want to try and steal Kumas lime light by explaining.
Infact here is the link to his post!
I tried to play a CE match, yup, I still need a lot more work with the stick… When I’m under pressure, things kind of fall apart…
It took me a while to adjust to a stick (my execution is by no means perfect yet either) but what I’ve found really helpful is going into practice mode and turning on input display and whenever I fail at what I was attempting to do I look what the actual inputs were and adjust accordingly. 90% of my failed inputs are to do with me pressing a button before the joystick motion is completed.
Also I’m no expert, but I don’t hold the joystick the whole time. Dashes for example, I do just by pushing the joystick on one side and letting the spring bring it back to neutral - I’m not that good so this may or may not be the best way, but it works for me.
My main problem is executing from the left side of the sceen (1P side). I’m pretty much butter on the 2P side but I sometimes have trouble doing quick DP’s and my FADC messes up occasionally. Basically it just seems like my reaction time is cut in half on the left side. I’m going to start just creating matches so I’m forced to start the game on the left side and practice that way.
That’s how I hold the stick, I hold the balltop between my fingers and thumb rested. The same way Daigo holds the stick.

I’m also going through the same frustration as the rest of you guys :crybaby:
I’ve had my TE stick for a month now and i gave up using it after my first week after i got my ass whooped by people i could beat with a pad.
After reading this thread i have decided to get back into using my stick and after a solid 4 hour session i have realised that block strings, link combo’s etc are so much easier to pull off with the stick.
The problems that i am still facing are pulling off the DP>FADC>ultra and just being comfortable with the Arcage stick. To stop me from using my SF anniversary pad i have given it away to my nephew :crybaby:
It’s probably the dash that’s your trouble, right?
Try dashing consistently with the stick, then try on the pad. Effortless on the pad, requires precise movement on the stick. In the heat of battle, dash-trouble on the stick can cost you the match. So, training dashes is just as important on the stick as training comboes, specials ect, where on a pad you don’t have to.
Trolle_DK, yes dashing is defo an issue!!! Like you said, dashing is effortless on my pad, a little more skill is required on a stick.
I have been dashing by pushing the stick with my index finger to dash forward and thumb to dash back when facing >>>
I just gave the pads to my girlfriend. otherwise i will never fully do the transition. I always switch back to pad. What do you guys think, switching back all day is the worst thing you could probably do no?
how long will it take until I get my rushdown style on a stick? why are link combos easier, because you have all the fingers ready on the buttons???
thanks :encore:
I’m working on minimizing the almost 50% deadzone there is on the sanwa JWL-stick, which I have in my homebuild stick.
Thinking about either installing a smaller square gate or putting a rubberring around the buttom of the stick.
The thing is, from neutral, the switch activate after pushing direction in 40-50% out of the sticks total range, then the switch active area is around 2-5%. Then there’s still like almost 50% of deadzone till you are fully at one direction.
That means there’s also 50% deadzone on the way back to neutral BEFORE the switch deactivates.
On a pad, you press down the button, switch activates and you can’t go any further, no deadzone. Release and switch deactivates instant, going back to neutral and ready for new input.
I’m sure that if a small mod can fix the deadzone on a stick, it will become much better.
I’ll let you know and post.
Maybe Im just made for the pad. So maybe ill switch back to pad
And a quick search, found this:

That should deal with some deadzone, I’m trying this tonight, although I think I can do a better mod than using heatshrink.
if i dont progress significantly, should I go back to pad?
The EXACT same problem for me. I’m used to quick and concise movements and there is simply too much deadzone on the TE stick. Please let us know how this turns out!
Hey,
I tried some heatshrink around the bottom on the stick it self, the part that touches the gate.
Heatshrink works in some way, but it’s too soft, wears out and it’s rubber so it will sort of “brake” when moving around, caused by friction against the gate.
The best thing would be a hard plasticring with inside diameter at 13mm(little more than inch), like 1mm thick and then just glue it on.
So, I’ll be finding some tube or material to use and report back.
