So I accidentally dropped my Wooden Catalyst…does this mean I can’t use spells? Where can I get another Catalyst?
I’m using the scimitar upgraded to +6 and a spiked shield that I got from some enemy drop since most other shields are too heavy to be worth the trouble as a thief. I also have an Estoc +3 for pierce damage and I make heavy use of a Compound Short Bow +7. Armor is still all default except the silver gauntlets that get more souls per kill, most of the weapons and armor I pick up just goes straight into the item box because I don’t need much in the way of heavy armor/weapons or mage gear.
Killed the red dragon today and it took way less arrows than I expected, maybe 50 or so. None of the loot was really useful for me but it was pretty cool just to have killed that asshole and ended his strafing runs. Plus saying you killed a dragon sounds cool. 
Flamelurker is a bitch. I’ve seen him get stuck on debris a few times so I might just try to exploit that and kill him with arrows, I’m tired of having to jump all the way down there every time I lose, and I’ve died over a dozen times from the camera randomly swinging behind a pillar so I can’t see what I’m doing and die in one hit. Some people have said that thief is one of the harder classes to start with, and I’m beginning to believe it 
Edit: I’ve picked up several wooden catalysts but I don’t remember where, plus a silver one as well, so you should be able to get another one.
^ im also a thief and i am finding it super hard. But hopefully this helps when i play the game again. Im stuck right now in the vally of defilement ( om pretty sure this is the second area) i keep dieing against that monster with the big club right after the rats. anyone got any tips to beat that
4-1 is much better for farming souls, you get 350+ per kill on the rolling skeletons.
In a couple minutes fighting up the hill you can get 3000 souls. Just go up and pull one at a time.
This game sounds so damn great. I wish I had the money for this and Uncharted 2, but sadly I do not.
So if I love games like Diablo, Legacy of Kain I’d guaranteed enjoy this game, right? I’ll most likely be a melee class, I always start off as a melee char in these types of games. Barb or a Knight, for sure.
Finally got my hands on a copy, too bad it’s gonna get discarded next week when Uncharted 2 drops!
Yeah. Sure, I’m enjoying this and NGS2 right now, but fuck those games when Uncharted 2 drops.
Holy shit 3-2 is ridiculously intense. I know my discomfort with heights probably plays a role in the first part but even after I got down to the swamp the visibility diminished and there those crazy worm things with faces that can do horrible things to you and your equipment. And I thought the tower was going to suck because I didn’t like how confusing the layout for 3-1 was.
Anyone who is slacking on upgrading their bow will probably regret it, it’s starting to seem more and more invaluable. You might be able to do some of the same stuff by using magic, but if you aren’t then the bow can save you from a lot of unnecessary risks, and I’m sure we all know by now how easy it is for a risky situation to go bad and get you killed.
Anyone have some Chunks of Hardstone they’d want to trade or know where to get some? Close to fully upgrading my Longsword and I just need two of them.
Can’t you just keep farming those Hoplites at the beginning of 1-2?
I think they drop all kinds of stones.
Nah those are just shards, need the Chunks.
I believe hardstone chunks show up a lot in 2-2, but I’m not 100% sure.
I truly need to get my faith and Int to reasonable levels.
I’m getting chunked all over the place.

is there a reason why when i go to increase my strength my attack power doesn’t go up. This game is kicking my ass. im 11 hours in and still at 2-1. thief is hard to play.
i think i just figured out why i cant pass where i am now. i though the vally of defilement was level 2, but its level 5.
I’m off to NYC for the weekend, I will pick up the US version if you guys are interested in playing. I wouldn’t mind starting over, but is there anyone still playing the Japanese version?
Finally got the game. I played it all evening…game is amazing. I haven’t made too much progress (I beat the Phalanx boss), and I’ve died a total of three times so far. If those armored swordsmen are any indication, the combat will be completely skill-based, and completely satisfying.
So apparently there’s a good ring in 1-1 that helps you out in soul form. I haven’t found this ring yet…where is it?
Unlike you two, I’m gonna skip Uncharted 2 until I’m finished with Demon’s Souls, which will probably take a long time, but I don’t care. U2 isn’t going anywhere.
actually theres 2 good rings in the first world… the cling ring, which increases your health when you’re in soul and the thief ring, which makes it harder for enemies to detect you
i dont exactly remember where the cling ring is, but you can get the thief ring where you save ostrava the first (in the area before fighting tower knight)

Look at the stats for the weapon you’re using… find it in inventory and hit Square to see its full stats. There’s symbols and letters showing you how much different stats affect that weapon’s attack power. As a thief I would guess you are probably using a Dagger, which is Dex based, not Str.
