Maneater’s kind of a scrub. Avoid the telegraphed pounce attack, use the big torch in the center of the platform as a shield, and light him up with weapon o’ choice (mine being Tearing Uchigatana +5) like a Christmas tree when he uses the lame ass tail lasers. He can pull some cheesy kills out in NG+ due to higher strength, though.
Nobody’s lamer than Old Hero AKA Low Tier-O though in the Shrine of Storms. Thief’s Ring + bow + standing in the entryway to the boss fight = instant win.
Storm King just use Soul Ray does a lot more damage then the sword you get there.
Shrine of Storms has nothing but lame bosses, the skeletons and grim reapers are the guys you should look out for
I dont know why, but some people think using tons of armor and huge weapons is a good thing, unless you put all your points in Endurance you will be slow as shit. And your attacks are going to be slow as shit, also you wont be able to roll at all.
I actually did a heavy armor build with a DBS and high endurance wearing a Fluted set except the helmet…and he pretty much raped online (when people attacked me, I wasn’t the invading type). Used DBS primarily for offense, with a bow for range and Anti-Magic Field for spell spammers. Anyone that was silly enough to invade my games with him got OHKO’d and I went about my day.
I like doing the more unique builds because after playing my first character (aka the generic “mage warrior” with a BBS) I realized everybody and their dog used that. Or Scraping Spear, or Insanity Catalyst.
my build is kind of mix of everything, she got the gold dull armor set, blueblood sword, lava bow, talisman of beasts, and dark silver shield +5. The only spells I use are light weapon and anti magic field. Shes very fast and can roll, shut down magic users, shoot anyone who try’s to run with the lava bow, and can dodge attacks easy. Also have death cloud just in case they try to heal them self to much, but then again I can just shoot them with the lava bow
Thief is definitely one of the hardest classes to start with but that’s mostly because daggers are somewhat difficult to use, especially in combination with your low HP and defense. Once you branch out into stronger (and longer) dex-based weapons like scimitars and katanas (I’m assuming this is what you might do since you started with a stealth/evasion type character class) it’s much easier. Just be sure to raise your endurance initially so you have enough stamina to roll around constantly.
My first character was thief and I remember well how difficult it was initially. Grabbing that scimitar in 1-1 was very helpful.
i died 3 times to 5-1 boss…by rolling straight ahead and falling to death
i did beat the guy by using black turpentine on uchigatana +1. this game rules.
i started as Hunter, but now i am mostly a strength build.
i use DBS, Knight’s Shield, Lava Bow, Fluted Chest, Fluted gauntlets leather legs and Black leather mask(cuz it looks bad ass haha). Going to work on my endurance so i can roll moderately with this set up.
DBS is too much fun to use haha. Although I think i’m going to level up my knight’s sword for the zones that are more confined(4 and 5 specifically)
Demon’s Souls is definitely a deep game. My character started as a Royal, and I kept pumping all my stats into magic. Crescent Falchion +5 was killing shit too, had my Soul Ray doing healthy damage. I got the Dark Silver shield and maxed it out and started to use it, all my damage I dealt was damn near cut in half. I later read that “Dark” items affect the users magic abilities negatively.
It’s a waste of your character and a waste of your colorless souls to upgrade that piece of shit. The only good thing for it is if you wanna humiliate your opponent (or yourself) in PvP, or challenge yourself against bosses (have to admit, fighting Flamelurker/Maneater/Tower Knight with them was pretty satisfying). If you want a serious monk build it’s MUCH better to just get yourself a pair of Crushing/Dragon Iron Knuckles +5 and L1 L1 R1 away.
