Oh. So armor isn’t as important. I see, I see. If that be the case, I’ll just go by pure aesthetics. Everything is default for me except for my plate boots.
yeah that would work just fine. I also never upgraded my HP ever throughout the course of my normal game, so dodging was very important for me. Also my purple flame shield blocks 100% melee damage (30% magic and 90% fire) and had a high hit resistance (lowers stamina lost when blocking) so that helped me from taking damage too. though in one of the world’s I switched to the dark silver shield which resists 100% melee and magic damage, but has a lower resistance to fire and lower hit resistance but still a really great shield.
If you want to roll around alot, you’ll be using lots of stamina, which means you’ll be raising endurance, which will increase your max equipment burden anyway so you can use whatever armor you like.
HP and armor definitely becomes less important as the game goes on, especially in New Game plus or whatever where everything can almost one shot you and you need to be able to roll around effectively…
PFS is a definite pick-up. Easy to get, too. Just go to the Dragon Roost in Boletaria, find the closest range before the dragon starts to breathe fire on you, and dash for the treasures. Depending on your rolling skill / luck, you may die, but you get to keep the stuff you pick up… like the PFS. Highly recommended for your first play, especially if you are going to fight Flame Lurker in melee.
I was actually really lucky, the first time I went to the roost neither dragon was there so I got to loot everything for free.
Also, if you go ahead to 1-2 you can kill the red dragon from one of the towers with a shitload of arrows/magic while he breathes fire on the bridge and when you kill him, he won’t be in the roost anymore. and you get his soul (and a trophy) which you CAN consume because it isn’t used for anything.
cant wait for the eu version, though part 2 is just around the corner…
Another shield that I would recommend would be the Adjudicator’s shield. You can pick one up at 4-2 inside the building with the Black Samurai.
It’s best paired with the HP draining weapon, Makoto, or the Cursed Weapon spell. Where it really shines however is in world 5. At max upgrade, you can run around the swamp without repercussion/s.
Anyone have a recommended build I should try out? I went hardcore magic on my first character and ended up stopping because I had turned the first play through into such a snooze fest. The only instances that were difficult were ones that I had to cast so many spells I had to make sure I farmed the shit out of spice first. Any recommendations?
You could try out a ranged type. I guess the Viscous Compound Long Bow would be the way to go for that… or the Lava Bow, depending on what else you want to do. I consider bow using builds to be inferior to magic ones, but that’s the beauty of this game- it’s still fun. You can also throw on the parrying dagger / fatal secret dagger combination and run a ninja build. The only real pain there is farming the stones for the fatal upgrade. I hate the damn Valley.
Of course, if the game’s too easy, you can always just push on into new game plus or rock some PvP. Invading someone with a couple of blues to help them can be a challenge, even if the players aren’t great. Just don’t be one of those scraping spear / soul sucker jerks. Unless someone steps out of line. Then feel free to show them a pain worse than death.
I still don’t fully understand when the game actually saves it’s data (in offline mode). If I kill a Primeevil demon and it doesn’t drop a Colorless Demon’s Soul, can I reset the game and try it again? So far they’ve always dropped one but I know it isn’t 100% chance to drop.
And what’s this discussion about maintaining pure white…Pure white is really easy to get as long as you get pure black in that world, you shouldn’t even really be struggling to go through the entire world without dying.
Also is Purple Flame Shield even worth it if your build doesn’t require you to get that much Strength (22). I’ve kept my strength at 16 right now and don’t see a reason to increase it aside from PFS (if it’s worth it over some other shield that doesn’t require that much strength).

It saves as soon as you log out or turn off or reset the game. To increase your chances of getting a colorless, turn the world into a pure black and use a Large Sword of Searching. They’re easy to kill, I don’t recall them ever striking back at me either.

Maintaining is easy if you’re careful about it. If you got a pure black, never help via blue stone, don’t kill a boss, etc. If pure white, don’t kill anyone via red stone, don’t die in body form, etc. Also, if you have a pure black world or pure white world, there are certain enemies that appear under said circumstances, killing them will +/- your world tendency by 2 I think.

PFS is the closest thing to a “perfect” shield with the least amount of STR requirement. I forget the exact details but it blocks 100% physical and 90% fire (lots of mobs in the game use fire) if upgraded to +7 I think, or +8. Now if you’re really good at rolling, parry -> riposte, then no, you don’t need a shield at all.
(I might be wrong on most of these, if so, forgive me. Lol)
Just recently bought this game.
Seems to age well, however watching Youtube vids, I see a lot of soul point exploits and what not. Even checking out the ladder board in game, it seems silly how they have max out states.
Still, a good game.
Worth the $30, no doubt about that.
PFS also has one of the highest hit resistances so you lose less stamina per hit you block.
I’m surprised it would be able to save after I perform a reset (through the power switch).
No I know how to do it, I was just saying that I don’t see the reason of struggling to get Pure White that way(by not dying in body form and accumulating +tendency through killing bosses) when you can just get Pure Black (which is easy), then kill BP NPC, Primeevil and any boss to take it to Pure White. I hear often people say something like “not worth trying to get pure white on your first playthrough” but i don’t really see why
Edit: Yeah I noticed the huge soul amounts some people have, is this through exploiting soulsucker or some other glitch?
Yes. There is also a way to get Colorless souls over and over using a similar exploit. There are numerous other exploits, as well. I’m not going to explain them because I think they take the fun out of the game, but there are video tutorials on how to do them on the net if you just have to know.
Also, remember that most of the people who are struggling to get PW tendency are just starting the game and may not realize about online mode affecting their own world tendency, how to manage revivals and deaths to alter tendency, etc. You’re right that it isn’t a big deal for players who have been playing for awhile.
I will let the new players in on one tip that can make the whole process a lot easier: if you kill Saint Urbain before you kill the Black Phantom when you fall down Patches’s trap, the BP will respawn everytime you enter the world. That means you have an infinite, 100% (or nearly 100%) source of Ephemeral Eyes that doesn’t require messing with Goblins. But, you will not be able to learn miracles that require a Demon’s Soul on that playthrough.
This is the reason why the game can save no matter what happens. People exploited a glitch to get unlimited souls.
seems to age well?..really? wtf, i mean it isnt even a year old yet.
im outi

Hmm, so I was able to get Primeevil Demon to spawn in 2-1, but BP Scirvir was not where he should be…before I waste another Ephemeral stone to kill myself, I’m guessing that Primeevil Demon can appear in mostly black (and not just pure black), which is why I can’t find Scirvir? For the record, I didn’t kill the primeevil demon yet in 2-1.
Primeval Demons can show up in near-black tendency, hence why BP Scirvir didn’t show up. Once you kill the Primeval Demon, BP Scirvir will be there next time for sure.
