when you start a level always start in soul form and finish it in soul form. never change to human form until the game forces you to do so from beating the boss. if you are in human form go suicide in another world then come back to the one you want to beat in soul form.
If you ever revive as a human after beating a boss, suicide in the Nexus. Dong so won’t drop your world tendency since the Nexus has no tendency. Also, you won’t be dropping any other WT by killing yourself.
I enjoy the boss fights, but find it that not too many people summon me to help. I’ve only been summoned once. In this aspect, I wish there were a way for me to constantly replay the bosses ala diablo II. I love doing boss runs in Diablo. If i’m summoned to beat a boss, then the one who is summoning me hasn’t beaten the boss yet, correct?
Yes. At least not on their current playthrough. Remember, you have to be dead, they have to be in body form, the boss still has to be alive for them, and you have to be a similar level to them. Then they will be able to see your blue sign.
Depends on your build, for Royalty I went with balanced stats with a slight emphasis on luck so that I could take faces off with Blueblood Sword. That sword + Light/Curse Weapon = pwn. Also, Royals make good mages too.
My personal favorite is high Faith build with Moonlight Sword. Can’t enchant MS, but it’s still a beast due to it basically being counter pick to Scraping Spear with 900 Durability and the ability to eat through a Shield (which most gankers use in conjunction with SS).
I just now started the game, but I want to plan for success. From what I can tell, I’d like to focus on magic only for extremely hard fights and bosses, with melee being my primary method of combat. Balanced stats with a slight emphasis on Dexterity and Strength seems as good an idea as any, though.
The best way to build your character is to decide what equipment you want to be able to use and work towards those requirements. For example, some melee builds may need more Str or Dex than others. How much MP will you need to cast spells? (Most builds take enough for Second Chance at least). And you need to be able to roll… It’s important to focus on what your goal is for the character; it’s really easy to get caught up reaching short term upgrades and wasting time in the long run. If it’s your first character, I wouldn’t sweat it too much- there will ALWAYS be something you could do better next time. Check the wiki I linked earlier. They have a number of example builds that you might like to look at.
Most of the bosses in the game are actually considerably easier than the levels themselves once you know what to do… but you will probably want to be able to use Magic and Miracles all the same, especially on a first play. For the bosses that magic does help on, you’ll want fire spells- specifically Firestorm. Have fun with it!
Something that fucked me up at the beginning was that I didn’t understand how stats work.
Strength and Dex don’t affect weapon damage significantly. The weapon needs to have a bonus that is derived from those stats for you to get a decent benefit. And unless that bonus is A or S rank, you probably won’t see much of a change.
IMO, the most important stat is Endurance, which increases your stamina and equip burden-- but I went melee in my game, so it may not be the case for primarily magic users.
Yeah the stat system was unclear to me on my first character. And my second. And my third. Maybe I’m just dumb though.
But yeah, if you like really big swords that kill things dead, get yourself a Meat Cleaver. It can also be fun to run a parry build with a Buckler or Parrying Dagger along with a Fatal Estoc or Fatal Secret Dagger.
Meat Cleaver…meh. I was always more of a DBS guy, it didn’t have 6000 years of lag after the swing like large hammers did. If Meat Cleaver had been a GS (why was it not a GS?) I’d agree with that.
I like to wield double DBS for kicks. Meat Cleaver however is a solid weapon and even though it’s a blunt, it deals cut/slicing damage.
Some advice for those playing through the game, as you progress further into the game, armor IMO becomes less and less important. If you’re good at blocking and got high endurance, you can wear next to nothing and still do good.
In my case, I’m vain, so I put on the coolest looking set-up possible. Dark Silver head, Shaman chest, Gloom arms/legs, left hand +5 Baby’s Nail, and right hand +5 Crescent Shotel.
I started out with a royal, and the only things I ever changed were my weapon and I added a shield (purple flame shield). I kept default armor and got through just fine, though I think I needed to upgrade my endurance one or two points because one of my weapons was heavier, but as long as your equipped weight is less than half of your equip capacity you should be able to roll just fine. and if you’re good at it, then you could probably get through most of the game naked anyway
