You can summon your friends as long as your alive. You’ll see some blue writing and it’ll tell you who that player is.

I see people online when I play. I just wish that I could find some way to change the world tendency to white. I need it to be white to get a quest started but it’s always neutral.

Make sure you are in offline mode (other players’ actions affect your WT in online mode). Kill bosses in the world you want to turn white. Do not die in human form in those worlds. (Death in phantom form is ok.)
Is it difficult to play with my friends consistently? They may be purchasing the game soon, and I’m not sure how to get games in with them.

I would not advise buying the game JUST to play co-op with a friend. It’s too much of a hassle. (Some people manage to do it. Just depends on your patience, I suppose.)
