well i just beat it for the first time… pretty lame ending but still a fun game. going to take a break for a bit and try and step up my madden skills… lol
I was expecting a fight with that big dinosaur demon in the trailer near the end of the game. Needless to say I was very disappointed.
So anyways, I’m currently on NG+ with my mage and although she kicks mighty ass and looks mighty cool with a crescent uchi, I’m getting bored of shooting soul arrows at foes and am thinking of playing a NG with a different build. Any suggestions?
Since you already did a mage build, go with a sword type build. Either long swords or two handed. Start out with Knight, Barbarian, or Soldier and boost END and STR! VIT can come a little later on. Wielding the large swords are your best bet but being able to roll is more essential. After you beat the first boss on 1-1 go back to 1-1 where the dragons are and they should be gone, thats where you’ll get the equip burden ring and purple flame shield and you need both of those for a sword type build. You want to try to be as light as possible not only for the ability to roll quickly but also because heavier armor impedes stamina regeneration, and when you’re swinging huge swords you need that stamina.
I’ve built 2 of these types of characters and never lost at a PVP. You’ll notice bosses will be a little more tough because you have to get close to them to do any damage… and just because mages are vastly stronger with their magic skills. But trust me, it feels good beating the 2 Maneaters alone with a huge sword and determination lol.
Eternal Warrior’s Ring should also help with the stam regen, well once you can get it anyway.
Also you can beat one of the Maneaters before you even enter the fog, I just went into 1st person on my Bow and shot it through the fog. it jus sits there . from there I went into the fog and melee’d the second one
I tried that trick as the Maneaters literally kept shoving my ass down that narrow bridge every time. Bow did 13 damage each pop (no SCLB or Lava =.=). Kept going though and only managed to take out maybe 1/3 of his health before I ran out of arrows so I was like, goddamn, well at least I should be able to kill him before the 2nd one comes in. But fucking Maneater charges and I get shoved off and die right after I enter the fog. Probably took me like 40 runs where I hack n’ slashed at one while dodging soul rays from the other until I finally beat them.
Then shortly after that battle I read online about how people had such an easy time OHKO’ing them with Firestorm. FML.
2-handing seems like a fun build. I think I’ll give that a shot. I’ll prolly try out the Penetrating Sword also even though the base damage seems poor. It looks cool, no one uses it, and can be enchanted. If I find it sucky though there’s always the dual-wielding Bone Smashers build.
yeah I had a SCLB +4 or +5 by the time I got to the Man Eater fights, and didn’t take too long to take the one standing there down.
I too was sad about not knowing about firestorm, but thats because I used that soul for God’s Wrath not thinking about the fact that my Magic stat was much higher than my faith
- That’s cowardly. You have to fight like A MAN!!!
- My dex is never high enough to take any damage with the box with fighter builds or mage builds. It’s always <= 10. I tried it once when I was pissed off and I shot 100 arrows at it, went in, and it still had full life lol.
I don’t blame him. They’re called MANEATERS for a reason.
Just now I witnessed the most fail of a BP invasion. My friend and I were breezing through 1-4 until we went up the elevator when a BP invaded our game. Instead of going for the boss we opted to go fight him, and since we can’t really leave the castle b/c of the dragon, we decided to just wait for him at the top of the stairs with sticky compound bows in hand and fire volleys of arrows at him when he comes just for laughs. Apparently the dude didn’t know how to avoid the flames, and we witnessed a massive amount of failure as he tries to hide behind pillars, get smoked, retreats to heal up, then trying again. After like a minute he went for the final push and gets burned right outside the castle entrance. All this time we were just standing there and doing the “sigh” motion.
EDIT: Anyone near lvl 81 who wanna part ways with a pure bladestone? XD
dont forget about satsuki in 4-1.
ya im a mage and people cast that shit really fast, the problem is i have a sword that does 300+ damage a hit, and its attack speed is hella fast, so they end up dieing anyway haha.

I remember reading somewhere that you can farm Ephemeral Eyes. Who do i kill and how often do they drop?
Also, I read that all you have to do to get Pure White is to kill the last boss of that particular level but doesn’t seem to be true from what i’m reading here. So, if you’re playing offline only, is it possible you can screw up your alignment such that you can never get it to Pure White?
LOLOLOL big dinosaur demon, that shit had me crackin up, im pretty sure hes the boss for world 2, so thats why you didnt fight him at the end, cause he was in world 2.

I didn’t farm the eyes because I found it unnecessary and ended up with almost 30 through regular play. I think the Giant Goblins drop them in 5-2. Killing the last boss bumps you up towards white but won’t make it pure if you are neutral or black even.
To get the pure white, what people are saying is make pure black, kill Named Black Phantom, Kill Primeval Demon, kill final world boss, world will be pure white.
Yeah, I’m sure that is the Dragon God, the 2-3 boss. He just looks different because when you fight him he doesn’t have the mask covering his eyes.
I got a couple from those plague babies in 5-3. Pretty sure BP large goblins drop them every time if your world 5 is in black WT.
As for tendency, read this: http://www.atlus.com/mediawiki/index.php/Tendency
I see. I thought they were different demons since he had a green tone whereas in 2-3 he was black and had red glowing eyes. <.<
Hopefully they make multi-player better if they make Demons Souls 2, like have FPS games, FFA, Teams and other stuff. That shit would be insane
i bought a few games in the last couple of months. uncharted 2, modern warfare 2 and assassins creed 2. i also decided to buy demons souls on import as it’s not out in the uk. seeing it on youtube, i was immediately attracted to the zelda-like gameplay and trading similar to fallout 3.
uncharted 2 was fun. amazing graphics, nice gameplay with an ok story. i thought it was a bit too easy with no real replay value. the missions were all pretty similar but the platforming and the set pieces were really well done.
modern warfare 2’s story mode sucks. it had nothing on the original story mode whatsoever. multiplayer is not worth 40 on it’s own, especially when you know they are holding back more maps for dlc. i should have waited for mag.
assassins creed 2 was basically grand theft auto set in the 1400’s with worse gameplay and awful platforming. the racing missions are nearly unplayable. if it had the same platforming as uncharted 2 it would have made the game much more enjoyable to play. it also had FAR too many repetitive missions. it felt like a game that was ALMOST genius, but not quite. no real replay value either. i get the feeling that the developers rushed this game out for christmas.
which brings me to demon souls. this game is fucking awesome.
at the moment i have beaten 1-1 and died at the bosses of 1-2, 2-1 and 4-1. yes, it is difficult but holy shit it’s not that bad. if you can’t beat 1-1 then you just plain suck. if the other levels are too hard for you well then guess what? go back to 1-1 and level up. that’s what i am doing. i can farm this area easily, including the red eyed knight. i haven’t even tried to fight whoever that guy is when you open the mausoleum doors. i soul arrowed him and he took no damage, so i ran lol.
anyways, i feel lucky that i bought this game. i am surprised developers even make games like this anymore, seeing as anything deemed challenging is called “ridiculously frustratingly hard” and “one of the hardest games we’ve ever played” by the guys at ign ect. this to me is what spending 40 on a game should feel like, not “does this game come with a dlc win button?”. enjoy this game while it lasts. games like these are a dying breed.
For sure Demon’s Souls is fantastic no doubt, but I think Uncharted 2 & Assassins Creed are great games as well. You would play them for different reasons.
Uncharted 2 for the Hollywood style set pieces.
Assassin’s Creed 2 for the free roaming and story.
Demon’s Souls for the skill level needed to be effective, plus the epic bosses.
There isn’t anything in any game like when, it flashes that you are being invaded by a black phantom. Immediately my heart started pounding and my hands started sweating.
I think Demon’s Soul’s is better than those 2 games as well. Demon’s Soul’s is mostly original and creative while the said 2 are just rip offs of tomb raider and metal gear esque style playing. Been there, done that. I think thats what intrigues me with demons souls; the fact that it’s an original effort and it’s done well. You don’t see that too much now a days. Original stuff lol.
Yeah, the difficulty thing is way blown out of proportion by pretty much everyone. I only died a couple times on my first play through. Notice how no one brings up the fact that levels have sections and when you beat a section you can get back to the nexus then go to the next section pretty quickly and when you beat all the sections you can just run straight to the boss. People made it out to be that I have to go through every single section of the level just to get to the boss… and that’s not the case for most of the levels.
It’s just difficult at first until you understand the gameplay and how to approach certain bosses/areas. Have you played New Game+? A lot of enemies in NG+ and up can kill you in two hits.
the worst part is how they missed out the fact you get to keep all the items you pick up…even if you get killed.
in theory you can get 99 crescent/half/late/full moons. you also get to keep the “special souls” and use these in the nexus at any time you want. i’ve already picked up over 10,000 souls from this and i have hardly scratched the surface of this game yet.
when you add these to the things you mention in your post above, it makes me ask myself: did these reviewers ever play a nes, snes or a genesis? i remember when i used to play contra 3. one hit kills, getting to the last level, run out of continues and having to start the ENTIRE GAME over again from level 1.
i don’t expect all gamers to be able to play demon’s souls…but i personally would rather play challenging games like this game and braid (which is an amazing 2d mario with puzzles for those that don’t know). in the last few years i feel that the majority of games have lost the “challenge” aspect that used to be common in the late 80’s-mid 90’s.
if anyone plays it long enough to beat it and go into a new game, i am sure they aren’t the type to bitch about the difficulty anyways.
Yes, I have. And yes I agree it’s more difficult. :wgrin:
It’s the whole gaming industry today really that’s caused this. The simplicity and easiness of games have increased as each year goes by and now gamers expect to pick up a game and beat it without ever dying. And the sad thing is that there are a lot of games out there that are just like that. Our generation grew up with trial and error and progressive difficulty, but now, it’s just not like that. And the sad thing about it is that thats one of the main reasons why games and gaming system sales have increased so much because the games are accessible to everyone and anyone can beat it with minimal effort. For me, that’s not fun. I want a challenge.
