Who the fuck says DaS has no story/lore?
People who need every bit of information shoved in their faces because they refuse to listen to dialogue, read descriptions, and put two and two together.
Just throwing it out there DaS not only has one of the most entertaining plots of any game Iāve ever played, but also one of the most well thought out as multiple sources of lore in game contradict each other, creating a Memento effect where people say theyāre open to interpretation when they donāt understand something which is everyone lol.
Either you havenāt been paying attention to the themes of Dark souls two or you are just outright ignoring them.
To really interpret whats going on around you, You kinda need that background knowlede, especially when it comes down to lore locale.
If he embarked on the story retroactively I think alot of the interesting areas and the lore behind what heās trecking through would be lost in both games.
Just beat Gwyn Lord of Cinder with my Tank Build. I accidentally chose the Dark Lord Ending cuz I wanted to see if his black knights despawned outside the door not knowing that was how you choose the Dark Lord Ending. Lol. Oops. Oh well. Iāll just choose Kindle the Flame with my Ninja chick tomorrow. Gwyn was pretty easy, you can just parry his ass to death which is disappointing. Probably try not to do that tomorrow.
Games fucking amazing, will be digging into multiple play throughs of this for sure.
Have a DS2 question. I have my mace up to +10, Strength is about 35-36, so my damage is pretty nice. My Intelligence is at 50, so would I be better off infusing magic onto it, or just keep the base damage I have right now? Not sure how bad the scaling is in 2, so Iām concerned Iāll actually lose damage output if I infuse it. On the other hand Iām curious if 50 Intelligence is enough to surpass my normal base damage. Any suggestions? Iām trying to avoid looking anything up being this close to the end, just hesitant about making this switch.
Question about ascetincs and merchants
can i use one in NG, and the merchant will sell items that he only sells in NG+ or does it only affect the difficulty in the area
DaS has lore, DaS2 is a wasteland.
For DaS2 physical damage is worthless. Infuse and then enchant. CMW should work on most magic weapons to really maximize your damage (aka it does insane stupid damage).
Okay, I put in maybe 15 hours in DS1. I got the Drake sword, Killed the Taurus Demon and made some progress but I really donāt like the game Iāve determined that now. I apologize if that offends you because I know the Souls community is super into it and Iām not trying to unnecessarily shit on the game but I think Iāve put in enough time to draw a proper opinion and those skeletons have pissed me the fuck off now.
One problem I have is just how cryptic it is. Iāve head comparisons to Metroidvania with the level design and I could see that but hereās the thing; Symphony of the Nigh and good Metroidvania blocks you from accessing an area youāre not supposed to go unless you broke the design (I forget the technical term) but the point is that youāre doing that because you want a challenge and have found something the Devs missed. Souls doesnāt really give you a lot of indication on where youāre supposed to go and often you find yourself in a spot where youāre definitely not equipped to deal with and guess what? You lose your souls. I made it that garden area near the Drake Valley, killed those plants, able to kill a few of those knights that can slow you down, got some good equipment, ran past a couple and made a bee line for a white door. As soon as I enter, boom, boss fight, and itās a giant butterfly thing that fires magic and I either need to learn magic or get some good ranged weapons. Got raped and lost 8K souls.
Beginnerās traps. Just too many. Way too many.
The targeting system is bad. I said it. The range is like 200 yards or so and will sometimes target a guy way in the back rather then the guy nearest and the camera freaks out when theyāre close or youāre near a wall.
The Combat is okay, but for some reason itās really hard to get a kick out when you desperately need it. I put the blame on that on the unstable FPS.
Sounding real DSP right now.
Moonlight butterfly gave you problems? It sounds harsh, but it would appear as though the issue is not with the game at all, but rather your skill (or more specifically, lack thereof).
The butterfly will land to recharge after you dodge its shots. You dodge until it does, then chop it. Rinse and repeat. There are no real fancy mechanics to the fight (other than one shot that penetrates shields, IIRC). You literally wait until the dumb butterfly wears itself out, and then cut it up. You donāt need any specific weapons to complete this (or any fight).
Everything that you have complained about reads more like a summary of what makes the Souls series great. Itās completely open, you can go where you want, when you want (for the most part), and everything can be killed with skill, even at soul level 1.
Is this nigga serious?
Iām not even gonna comment on half of that because like you said, itās not your thing. I would ask though, why in the fuck would stockpile 8k souls then enter through a fog door? Thatās not cryptic or āsoulsā just common sense.
Uh. No.
What game are you playing? Iāve only scratched the surface of DSIIās lore, and even so thereās so much to the gameās narrative. Dig deeper. Some of the most interesting stuff Iāve ever read about in Souls lore is about the stuff between King Vendrick and Natasha.
Just to place things in perspective, let me put my over 600+ hours with this game against your 15.
First of all, 15 hours probably isnāt nearly enough time with this type of game to decide whether or not you think it has bad design as a whole. You havenāt seen shit yet. And a lot of your points donāt really seem to have merit considering the fact that youāre ignoring why the game is designed the way it is. Youāre supposed to find your own way. Youāre supposed to die and learn from your mistakes. Itās the goddamn motto of the game. What separates the people who hate this game and the people who love it is whether or not you have the mettle to forge your own path and find your own way forward. And even though it may not seem like it, the game gives you enough subtleties for you to figure your next objective if you apply even a minimal amount of exploration to the equation.
If you head into some new area where every single enemy is easily mowing you down, youāre probably not supposed to go there yet. I figured common sense would simply dictate that.
What traps are there, exactly? More importantly why are you not paying attention to your surroundings?
Also, in terms of the combatā¦kicking really shouldnāt be that important or used that often. Learn how to fight instead of blaming the frame rate (which, also is fine, Iāve never messed up a move because of it). The lock on system also works fine (a hell of a lot better than it did in Demonās souls) so I donāt know how youāre having issues there.
Also, 8K souls? Really?
Come back when youāve felt the despair of losing over 900k souls.
Downed the dual Dragon Riders and Looking Glass Knight on my first attempts. Feeling pretty bad ass right now, but that probably means Iām going to get royally fucked up in the next area.
I struggled so much with the Mirror Knight. Fucking invasions and shit.
Speaking of which, does anybody know how to invade people through the Mirror Knight boss?
To each his own, we all have our niches. And I can get the kick to work most of the time but when I NEED to kick a dude off a cliff it rarely happens. I like hard games, I unlocked the Kid in Super Meat Boy and beat the dark version of there final battle. Iād like to see you do that and then I can laugh at how bad you are.
cant wait for pc.
but from what Iāve played on xbox I knew this game was going to feel a hell of a lot easier than dark souls 1.
and its not thats its an Easier game. its more accessible but bot necessarily easier. dark souls 1 simply trains you to well.
I think Dark Souls II is easier in the sense that it doesnāt make you feel as lost in the world as the other games have. I had almost no issues figuring out where I should go next in this game, as opposed to 1 where I got lost pretty much after every boss.
But in terms of combatā¦I couldnāt disagree more. Some of the shit the AI can do is just ridiculous. Hell, some enemies have infinite poise even. Plus most of the time youāre getting just swarmed by so many things at once, you can get destroyed by sheer enemy count.
I still think Dark Souls 1 is the easiest of the three games, but Iām having a hard time deciding whether Demonās Souls or Dark Souls II takes the cake for the most challenging game of the threeā¦
Anyone having trouble with Moonlight Butterfly needs to quit life. That boss is so stupid, it willingly sets itself up to let you win. The souls series doesnāt have beginner traps. Every seen Batman Begins? āAlways be aware of your surroundings.ā Thatās what the Souls series should teach you. I literally got killed by Gaping Dragon in ONE BLOW because I didnāt realize I backed myself into a corner. You pretty much need to respect everything. I have slain 5 enemies in two strikes and had those same enemies run me down in seconds later on. I didnāt even know about the Tomb of Giants until much later.
That being said, the story of Artorias, Sif and the Abyss is sad. The lore is amazing. Especially when people talk about the armors NPCs wear.
Thanks for the help. Sounds like DaS 1 is the one to start with. Iāll pick it up on PC and let the tears come forth as I die again and again.
I still think the whole tale of Artorias is the best piece of souls lore out of all of the games. The only things that come close is stuff like The Shrine of Storms, or Havelās background.
