Just entered The Shrine of Winter, home stretch I take it, or did I only just hit the Anor Londo mark of the game?
Home stretch? I would say no. I made it there myself and from what I have seen in playthroughs, there is quite a bit left to do. That being said, the castle is the first place in a long time that actually gives me a challenge.
I have to state something. When I first played DSII, I was really angry at the game. I thought enemies being finite was wrong and that life reduction upon death was a cruel punishment for players and was a change that would discourage players. Upon playing a lot more, I come to realize that neither change was in no shape or form a hindrance. I took down almost every boss while hollow at 75% health. And I did kill enemies until they no longer respawn to get to bosses. The latter being one thing I really like about this game. Enemies not being finite was not as issue at all because I still broke past lvl 100+ no problem. That being said, DSII is my favorite of the three.
Ok thanks, looking forward to the upcoming challenege, kinda been steamrolling ever since I took down the Bell Gargoyles.
I feel the same way too about the game, I was worried as hell about finite enemies and the 50% health, but I was pretty leveled up much sooner than I thought, and having played Demon’s Souls the whole 50% life thing wasn’t too much of as handicap. By the time I got the binding ring I felt like that was a bit too much even.
Judging by how buffing interacts, a lot of these double buff shenanigans seem intentional. It’ll also be a while before from starts patching anything.
This is why nobody is taking pvp seriously, it’s a one big messy glob of slop with terrible netcode.
Wait, so you played des and think hollowing taking your hp away was a bad thing?
What?
I feel like enemies being finite is 100% wrong because now anyone can just grind out the game, you don’t really need to learn much since you can take on every boss at full health with everything available to you.
Uh there’ll only be a few bosses that’ll really be threatening, and most of the hard bosses are optional encounters so unless you’re really into exploring and fighting things you truly are in the home stretch.
Overall the boss difficulty has been raised but the hardest boss in das2 isn’t up with the cream of das1 fights.
Damn, Mage builds look sooooo fun this time around.
PvP is a mess right now. The combination of things like affinity and great resonant soul/forbidden sun/crystal soul spear is ridiculous. It’s like vanilla sf4 ryu being able to throw his super while having a fire ball on screen already. Melee fights aren’t really any better though, phantom range is all over the place, certain weapon combos stun lock you to death, and nothing is punishable so the R1 spam is rampant. I’ve been trying to get parry timing down in pvp, but it’s damn near impossible to find a consistent timing with the lag in the game.
Hmmm i cant find Solair. I talked to him the first time cuz i have the white soap stone but now he doesnt seem to be appearing at any of his other locations. Stinks, i dumped 30 humanity to the chaos sister just so i could get that sunlight maggot to. Does solair glitch out or is it possible for him to disappear?
Alright, I think I’m finally going to give this series a shot. Would it be best to start with Dark Souls 1 or 2?
Dark souls 1 or Demon souls, then after you finish those 2 or dark souls if you dont have a ps3, then go for DS2
Dark Souls 1.
There are so many things you have to do in specific orders at specific times with specific items that if you don’t you will miss out on a lot of items, spells, NPC’s, and lore which is the bets and worst thing about DaS1
I loathe encouraging anyone to look up guides on a first play through but hey it’s your game you paid for so you can play it however you want, this should help:
Is it worth leveling up to 50 INT in DaS 1 if you’re not using dragon breath or should INT builds stop at 44? I mean for me since MLGS scales with it I went for the full 50, but for most casters is it worth it for the spell damage?
Das2.
The bosses will seem hard to you until you learn how to fight souls bosses but maneuvering the world is much simpler in das2 than in das (as in you shouldn’t get lost or have no idea where to go).
You can revisit the greats later so there’s no shame looking at the newest one first, also you won’t get your shit pushed in by O&S.
This is my second playthrough…
Anyway i actually looked at that video already. Maybe Solair is at the last bonfire already.
Why should he start with the sequel? That doesn’t make any sense… I understand skipping Demon’s, but he shouldn’t skip DkS1.
I do like how the new one has many DeS references that was pretty sweet IMO. That being said did something derpy in Belfry Luna when I got invaded, killed three invaders went to the bathroom came back in time to see some dude punch me off a bridge. I lold and sent him a congrats message. Shoulda left before bathroom break it was funny. In regards to skipping if you complete DaS it helps flesh out the perspective of the 2nd game alot more but 2 isn’t dependant on knowledge of I.
Uh because it’s a sequel in name only?
There’s essentially 0 story tie ins, and considering how there’s almost no lore in das2 it’s not like he’s missing much. Oh no he’s not surprised by one boss he missed out on so much.
Das2 gives you more direction to proceed in than any other souls game–by that mandate alone it’s the “easiest” to get into. The boss difficulty in das2 is under das1 (as I said, average is higher but the cap is much lower) so for a beginner that’s a plus. He’ll have some difficulty (but it’s a souls game) but once he gets the hang of it there won’t be any one boss that truly is a stone wall.
Enemies despawning means that if he has trouble in an area he can just grind it out–he won’t get stuck in an area put down the game.
Like by your reasoning why would somebody play SF4 if they didn’t play SF followed by every street fighter release after the first one. The only difference is the street fighter story is technically the same, where as the souls stories are all different and isolated.
If you skip demon soul’s and play das you miss out on the same junk (little nods) that you miss out on if you skip das and just start with das2.
It’s a direct sequel… There’s lore all over the place that ties the games together, you just have to look for it. What are you talking about?
Just because things are “easier” doesn’t mean he should skip the first game.
Your SF comparison doesn’t make sense because it’s in no way the same situation as this one.
Yeah there’s nothing like a direct sequel that’s so far in the future the events from the first game have no impact on the current world and all of the npcs have been long long long forgotten.
Your logic is flawless.
Edit:
It’s an entirely separate narrative. It doesn’t continue, expand, or build on the narrative of the first one.

So what? It’s still a sequel. Your logic is he should skip the first game because the second one is easier, which I don’t even agree with. Playing Dark Souls 2 then playing Dark Souls 1 when the system has already been expanded and improved on doesn’t make much sense at all.

Edit:
It’s an entirely separate narrative. It doesn’t continue, expand, or build on the narrative of the first one.
Yes it does. The main plot of the Dark Souls series revolves around the age of fire. Part 1’s narrative follows the player on their journey to break the undead curse/rekindle the flame. This continues in part 2 where the premise is still the same, but you see the effects the player had(or didn’t have) on the state of the world.
The narrative definitely continues. Only people who’d say “Dark Souls has no story/lore” would agree with what you’re saying.
