I wish the DLC didn’t cost more than the game itself at this point. I wonder what it’d be like going through the DLC for the first time in NG++++, especially since you have to progress to a certain point in the game before you can access the DLC. Can someone explain how accessing the DLC content works to me, and if it becomes impossible to access it once you hit a certain point in the game?
@dirzzt360 Upgrade dat stamina bar!
@Eren Anything you fucked up on your first playthrough can be fixed in New Game+. That merchant does sell the best armors though(if you don’t get them another way, most of what he sells can be found in the game outside of the Giant armor set from what I remember.)
You should think about using a different weapon. That greatsword hits like a truck, but the startup and recovery on the swings leave you wide open. I hate how slow it is, but you feel like a boss once you understand how to deal with its shortcomings. Really fast weapons that take barely any stamina to use can literally keep enemies in hitstun, and the extremely fast startup/recovery on them makes your character feel more mobile imo.
Edit: You can get like 2-3+ swings with a faster weapon before you get 1 swing with the greatsword, and those 2-3 swings added together will do more damage than that single greatsword swing.
On restarting over:
Only do it if you feel you can get up back up to speed relatively quickly with the knowledge you attained in the present playthrough, though it will vary from person-to-person based on what you think are considerable ‘mistakes’, in regard to your playthrough.
If you happen to make an NPC hostile, requesting absolution (to reset their hostility toward you) from Oswald of Carim (located in the Undead Parish belltower after the Belfry Gargoyle boss fight) is often a good idea, provided you have the souls to do so, though it can get quite expensive as your soul level goes up.
Male Undead Merchant (in Undead Burg) is okay to kill for the most part though, if you really have to get an early Uchigatana, though early bow/arrow stuffs from him is nice, like when to shoot off the Hellkite Dragon’s tail for the Drake Sword, or to have ranged attack stuffs.
Domnhall of Zema sells unique armor sets (provided you have defeated certain bosses) and a Master Key IIRC, once he moves to Firelink Shrine.
Soul Farming stuffs:
There is a nice spot/area beyond the door in Darkroot Garden in which you use the Crest of Artorias to open it, where you can farm souls pretty quickly and repeat the process since there is a (hidden) bonfire nearby. The process isn’t too bad and you can net something like 7000 souls per run, provided things go well, and you don’t really have to do much on your part besides follow a certain process.
Darkroot Basin Hydra fight:
There’s a safe area near a corpse that has a set of Knight Armor IIRC; near/behind a tree and a rock close to the water’s edge, that will offer some protection from the water blasts. The strat for melee would be to approach the water’s edge (with shield up) between blasts to goad the Hydra to use it’s melee attack (which is preceded by a roar IIRC), resulting in the head attack, allowing you to attack it at close-range. The farthest head(s) to the side might be tricky to reach so having a bow/arrows helps.
If you have to fight in the water, having the Rusted Iron Ring helps for normal mobility in water stuffs (located back in North Undead Asylum, need a key in the Firelink Shrine area to access the room with the ring).
Also, there are underwater cliffs which cause fatal fall should you get too close to the Hydra in the water, so be careful about that and check your footing in the shallows or fight him near the shore in it’s melee range.
Oh I forgot about that guy that–Oswald of Carim. I don’t want to kill anymore more NPCs, def going to keep him in mind next time. I think I bought Poison Ring off of him, but I felt it was kinda overpriced.
Thanks for the comments, I won’t start over and I’ll try to find a faster sword. I think I messed up this build though after pouring 32 STR to wield this thing, I heard the DKS has much faster swings and is just as powerful w/lower stats. I still have a Uchigatana 5 and a Claymore sitting in the box, and also I have that door open to farm the souls (there has to be a better way than this though).
That doesn’t look nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Now I just need to know if I have access to the Duke’s Archives in my most recent playthrough or not.
I haven’t played since the game was patched, so I’d need to snag a Giant’s armor set and upgrade it. I’m still using Havel’s. I kind of want the PC version, but my 100+ hour pimp character is on PS3.
Hmpth, so this is Blightown huh? No wonder the guy above is pissed off, this area is ridiculous I mean really why do they make level designs like this? This area is a lot like Valley of Defilement in DemSouls. I never, ever want to go back there.
Where do you have to go? I made it to the bonefire but there’s nothing but dead ends both ways, I hate this shit. I hate this level design. This place is worthless.
I haven’t played much after killing that moth. Well, I have but haven’t really got anything done. I don’t know where the fuck to go so Im just wandering around getting owned. I made my way to the hydra and killed all the little minions around him. Got killed by the hydra from afar. I tried to go back to get my souls (17K and thats a lot for me) and I got killed again. Sad times. I should have leveled up before I went there. I had planed to go get some pyromancer crap with those souls though…
I’m honestly jealous when I hear people talk about how frustratingly hard certain areas are because they are going through them for the first time. I wish I could erase my knowledge of the game and experience it new again.
I fear getting the DLC. I imagine going through the DLC for the first time in NG+++++ will be hard as fuck. My character is pretty prepared though, I just need to grind a few more levels to use a specific weapon that hits harder than the one I have, as well as me wanting to upgrade the Giant’s Armor set.
I really think it’s just another Valley of Defilement (aka valley of death) but that’s just me. I might head back out though and farm some poison cures, or I can take off the Wolf Ring for the Poison one. Toxic is not fun
I’m loving this Stone Armor. It’s heavy as fuck but I feel like a man with this thing on, plus I ditched BKGS for the Claymore 10. Claymore has some good swings, skillset, and stunlock so I can see why people love this thing. I have enough STR to wield Zweihandler, but BKGS is just a buffed Zwei so I’m sticking with the Claymore. I messed up my build by getting 32 STR which is way more than needed to wield Claymore, some of those points could of been dumped into Endurance. I think Endurance is the most important stat in the game on a serious note. As long as I keep my weight under 50%, I should be okay. Leveling up is a bitch though it takes like 40000 souls per level up for me now
As much as I get pissed off about this game, it is quite addicting lol.
I said it before, I’ll say it again, Stamina + Endurance + Main Stat, all taken to their optimal level; season with Slots and Secondary Stats, to taste.
