Just make sure not to neglect getting your stamina up to where the returns bottom out.
Stamina and endurance are your primary stat’s best friends.

Yep, getting a maximum stamina bar in Dark Souls should be a priority.
I think in Demon’s Souls the stamina bar didn’t have a cap like in Dark Souls, yeah? That shit was nuts.
Thanks to farming I’m a lot stronger now, but I still die just not as often. I’m nowhere near PvP status that’s for sure.
There’s some demon in the ocean that needed to die so I went out to fight him and he gave my character a ToD. Another ToD, I’ve seen so many…doesn’t matter what level you’re at. If you get hit, you die. OK…
What’s a black knight? I fought one and he dropped this badass sword, that same sword almost ToD me damn I need to wield this sword! Reminds me of Havel’s Dragontooth yeah I looked it up, look at the stats no wonder I was dying in one hit.
You are always near PvP status since the game only matches you with players near your level.
Black Knights are Knights in nearly black armor that try to kill you and have a chase range greater than that of all the enemies in the game. You’ll learn about their origin later in the game but once you kill one they stay dead.
“Demon in the ocean” Yeah wtf are you talking about lol? There’s a lake underground but that’s the largest body of water in the game.
Demon in the Ocean? The Hydra?
Wait the game always matches you to people near your level? Really? Because I’ve been JACKED UP in a majority of my phantom encounters…now I feel bad.
I think I would get wrecked in pvp. Shit, im still in the starting gear with a regular short sword.
I’ve pretty much have everything in darksouls besides the the channele’rs trident. Problem is my luck in games like this is terrible. I can try for hours and not get what I want (fuck you castlevania). The time when I played darksouls has passed, and I don’t want to get on it only to grind and get frustrated. Would anyone that has a character around 125 be willing to give me a channeler’s trident?
I’m sorry I take back what I said. It’s more complicated than that. Like the Darkroot Forest area anyone of any level can invade and what not. I’m not certain if it works that way everywhere though.
But you can always get co-op help though in PvP. Well sort of. Dark Souls with all it’s damn technicalities.
Yeah the Giant Hydra in the lake or whatever it is. I got too close at he just ate my character, I’m guessing there is a bow strategy for him. This game has better graphics than Demon Souls. Good news though: I killed the Dragon last night. I had to look up a youtube FAQ shamefully (yeah go ahead and call me a noob or whatever), but I’m glad that fucker is gone. I can finally duel hand the BKGS and it hits like a truck, but it’s so heavy and the swings are slooooww. I wonder what’s better BKGS or Zweihandler? People say Zweihandler–yeah.
I wonder if me and that dirzzt dude started the game at the same time
the problem i had in those two games is that i played for fun, the combination of weapon and armour that i picked up made the journey challenging but my character attribute made me unfit for pvp… i would fare pretty well against average players and noobs but against a users that knew what he/she’s doing i would literately just be a moving speed bag…
i’ll get serious on the next dark souls… and this time… it’s gon be personnel…
Probably. Ive only had it for a couple weeks. Are you playing it on console or PC?
Shit, I havent even played since I last posted about how I was in The Depths, three days ago. Im gonna play for a little bit right now.
I’m going on vacation for two weeks so I have to wait to get my revenge on Snorlax and Pikachu. Get ready motherfuckers…the time is coming for you to DIEEEE
I’m playing on console. I was reading your messages and I think we are at the same location (Depths). I’ve since left the Depths though to go level up my character.
Theres players at lower levels with better gear and optimized builds to match with it.
Then theres players with just plain strong optimized builds for pvp. You can get by whatever you leveled with against other similar people, but then you’d get destroyed by people who have an idea of how pvp works in this game. *of course theres always max’d pyromancy as a backup lol but then that gets countered by a certain shield easily.
Pvp in this game does have a fair amount of depth/variety and even footsies theres interesting shit like dead-angles which is the equivalent of “unblockables” though it breaks down at higher levels.
Furthermore in a way you can consider your 2nd weapon set to swap from as like your 2nd character. Think SFxT or Tekken tag.
You can use it cover weaknesses of your first set or expand on it. Example being my dex pvp set
Estoc/Balder side sword for right hand
Shield/pyroglove or a crossbow/Bow for left.
Estoc works like a dagger with crazy backstab/parry potential while having amazing range and the shield poke from spears. On counter poke it does a shit load of damage. So with a good shield you can absorb a shit load of 2 handed swings and return damage for about 400-700 without breaking your guard. Could even parry into pretty much gg. Down side of the weapon is that the only offensive pressure you have is the shield poke/backstab fishing and the occasional sweep. Of course if im invading, I could always just stalk you and backstab you but if I fuck up then I can fall back to defensive play.
Then when you need to go on the offense you swap to
Balder side sword. Probably the ryu of the game as far as weapons go. Holy fuck amazing moveset with claymore like range/damage. 1 handed its a sword and board weapon, fast sweeping left to right attacks with a AMAZING R2 heavy attack. It’s a forward thrust with the range of a god damn spear. On counter hit it does a SHIT LOAD of damage.
Then when you 2 hand the weapon, it’s claymore mode. The R1 chains rivals greatsword pressure and damage, and the R2 is 2 handed thrust similar to 1 handed R2. Slightly farther range than the 1 handed version with more damage. Scary shit.
My go to shields are usually Balder Shield for amazing stability/Black knight shield for a hard counter against pyromancy 95% fire resist + equally good stability as balders but heavier/Magic resist shield for obvious reasons lol
Pyro glove with Great combustion/Chaos fire ball. Great combustion for all purpose utility meaty on wake up, fast and incredibly damaging on the off hand Chaos fireball for lockdown on offense and defense. the lava locks people down if they’re blocking it, restricting movement
Occasionally I use a crossbow/bow depending on the opponent. Crossbow if the guy really likes to drink easy punish, bow to lame fatties out even more with poison arrows. -if you clean your inventory you can swap out weapons/armor quickly-
For armor, it’s mostly aesthetics and light weight so I can fast roll/ninja roll.

But under that mask is the god of death himself. Guess who.

Alright that aside I got a list of hilarious vids from the same guy as the last. I’ll post more later but starting off with this. Slight spoilers since it might show a area you haven’t been before but it won’t help you much lol.
The fun in pvp isn’t the pvp, but the amount of ways you can be a dick
Word, I left the depths myself. I was doing ok then I came across some bug eyed lizards that spewed curse mist. That shit killed me in one shot and left me cursed. I left that place and decided to go kill that big moth. I got myself killed once on the way there by some puny bad dude. I just got impatient and went for an extra hit. I shouldnt have and I got owned. The moth was mad easy with that summoned witch.
Here is a video of that shit. I get myself killed at the end of the video too. hmhmhm
Got DaS couple of days ago and got myself to Blightown. FUCK THAT PLACE!
I killed another vendor guy. I really, really didn’t mean to hit him but my finger slipped and I turned him hostile in one hit. Son of a bitch, I heard this dude sells pretty good armor too. Now he’s dead. Fuck me. (Domhnall of Zena)
I keep dying. I killed most of the merchants. I have no souls. Have I messed up my game? Should I restart? I feel like the game is getting the best of me right now, can never catch a break seems like. The guy above plays waaaay better than me, I decided to get my own footage so people can see how bad I am.
Bow strats that I used:
Fight near/amidst the tree roots/vines from the exit of The Great Hollow.
You have cover/protection from the water blasts with the roots/vines (for the most part anyway) and all you need to do is pop out and shoot, though getting a good vantage point to do so (closer range) may take some trying on your part.
Fight at the hollowed-out log.
Same idea as the first option, though your cover is being inside the log and popping out to shoot from time-to-time.
Bonus:
You can also ‘glitch kill’ the Hydra (might be pre-patch only) by running all the way from The Great Hollow exit to the entryway of the Everlasting Dragon (likely have to go into the area as well), while the Hydra follows you for a while to a certain point.
If successfully done, the Hydra never really catches up to you, though some stray water blasts might potentially come close, and it gets stuck up on something (near the explorable tree area, IIRC).
Eventually, the Hydra loses interest in you (since you are too far away) and when it tries to go back to it’s original starting position, it ‘disappears’ and gives you it’s reward (10000 souls and 2 Dragon Scales, IIRC) as if it were killed through normal means.
lol you’ll be fiiiine. Only time you’re ever truly fucked is if you hit a blacksmith. Also you may not see that greatsword you have until the end of the game.
Also for the hydra fight, you literally had it. You just had to stay close, block, punish, repeat. Only hard part about it was getting close enough for them to charge you lol.
With a decent shield upgraded preferably, the hydras wont break your guard and you have all day to chop off the heads.
Hilariously enough during my first time playing dark souls, I killed the same merchant while trying to swing at a dude invading me. I got hit with the classic bait and switch  but yeah you can totally live without the merchant. You can make another character and go for another build but your playthrough is still fine.
