Damn yo, got a little side tracked before I headed off for the moth fight. Ended up going past that huge crow, the beast near the first fire, where there are a bunch of skeleton bad dudes. I killed them and wandered further only to find som skeletons that would keep comming back after I killed them. Got myself killed a couple times there and said fuck it, ima go fight that huge moth.
I got sidetracked again on my way there. Ended up in The Depths. Not to bad here so far. toughest thing so far was some chef dude and he wasnt that bad. Two of them at once was kinda tough, but I jacked’em both. Found a bonfire down there and decided to go afk. I got killed…bwuahaha
I would’ve thought that Curved Greatswords might be a good fit as part of the weapon arsenal for this build, but maybe there isn’t a comparable weapon from the world of Ninja Gaiden that can be found in Dark Souls, relative to this particular weapon class.
What class did you start out with?
Weapon breaks everywhere…
Make sure to buy a Repairbox so you can fix your gear at bonfires, otherwise you have to repair stuff at a blacksmith’s location.
Blacksmith stuffs of interest at this point of the game (early start?):
Andre of Astora: at the Undead Parish near the room with the Titanite Demon
Rickert of Vinheim: down the elevator/lift at Firelink Shrine in the New Londo Ruins area
As for the Hellkite Dragon, go back later when you are stronger and have better gear.
If you are running sorcery stuffs though, it’s quite possible to kill the dragon at a relatively early point in the game, provided you are equipped to do so.
Estus Flask stuffs, for HP recovery, are dependent on bonfire kindling for increased stock (humanity usage) and finding Fire Keeper souls to increase their recovery effectiveness after reinforcing your Estus Flask with a Fire Keeper.
Once you get dark magic, shit gets stupid for both pve and pvp. Especially laggy pursuers users, fuck those guys, almost as bad as laggy backstabs.
Aside from lag being stupid overall they’re pretty strong in pvp. Setting up pursuers into manual aiming crystal soul spears on their dodge recovery, dark beads being a one shot at close range with a very fast cast time limited uses and ok at far range so its a shotgun all help with their viability.
Even scarier that dark magic just destroys your endurance when blocking on top of the massive damage you take from chip if you dont have much magic resist on the shield. Unless you’re using something chunky like Havel’s.
You could even use the pendant AS THE CASTER to scatter the pursuers and do some unique things.
Wow look at all the souls that dude has, I’ll be lucky to even see that many…
I started off as a Pyromancer, defense sucks but I like throwing fireballs at people and good beginner stats. I went back to Andre after grinding for an hour and bought all the weapon/armor repair stuff. I didn’t know you can buy that off of him but it should prove very useful, and I even got all my weapons fixed.
Things are looking up, I even upgraded the Uchi sword to +5. This-sword-is-a-beast! Hits like a first level Zwei sword, which I think requires 24 strength to wield.
This is what my character looks like:
Elite Knight Armor Set
Some helm I killed off a goring boar
Haven’s Ring
Some Grass Shield that boost stamina recovery
Some other ring that prevents staggering
Drake Sword
Uchi +5
Longbow
I know I get frustrated with the game sorry guys, I really want to learn but I hate dying after working so hard to get far. Then, you gotta do that shit all over again that grinds my gears.
Pyromancer is good for early fire stuffs, even if it’s somewhat limited at first, until you are able upgrade the glove (for increased MagAdjust) and get new pyromancy stuffs from trainers, or you find stuff.
Find one of the pyromancer trainers (Laurentius) in The Depths (accessible from Lower Undead Burg after killing a Capra Demon for a key). He’s a bit ‘quirky’ depending on how you answer his questions (after he arrives at Firelink Shrine) so be careful, especially when you first meet him in his ‘predicament’ to enable him as a pyromancy vendor.
Zweihander can be 2H at 16 STR IIRC if you don’t fully invest into 24 STR to be able to wield it 1H, provided the 10 DEX requirement is met.
Do you guys think this rumor about Demon’s Souls 2 on PS4 has any chance of coming true? I heard one of the Sony execs actually really loves Demon’s Souls…
What’s with the bosses in this game? Every boss seems to have a helper to aid him in defeating me. First the guy on the bridge, then the Gargoyle, then the guy in blight town, now somebody is firing a beam of light at me I have no idea where he is. This game is constantly on fuck you mode.
When I think back on these games, it crystallizes how well designed everything is. Once you have the knowledge of how to fight an enemy or a boss, you will destroy them every time. Even if you don’t have any knowledge of a particular enemy/boss, if you keep your shield up/roll around all day until you recognize enemy patterns and their openings, you can learn on-the-fly without getting GGPO’d. Progressing in these games is as satisfying as progressing in Ninja Gaiden.
Once everything “clicks” for you in the Souls games, it’s a great feeling.
Edit: I love that the environments play a role in everything, too. Not only do you have to worry about enemies, you have to worry about the environment itself. Have your back to a cliff VS a group of enemies? Better think fast! Lava at your feet? Better do something about it, and quick. Sludge at your feet? Better find some land for your next fight to be on if you don’t want to be at a severe disadvantage.
The Souls games are a thinking mans game, and they’re fucking awesome for it.
I love hearing people lavious over the Souls series. I really do. It’s like bragging about your son who gets made fun of at school for being a dweeb but has 4.0 gpa and already has his own business with colleges knocking down your door to get to him.
It’s def a man’s game that’s why I want to beat it. I am a dragon age player so transitioning to dem/dark souls has been very, very frustrating.
I kill one of those super demons and get a bunch of souls, then a fucking tree or something kills me and I gotta do that shit all over again. I gotta go ALL the way back to where I died so I can get my souls otherwise I can’t level up that’s the shit that pisses me off. It’s too easy to die, there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t have your shield up at all times (if your a noob) you never know what’s around the corner.
