after looking at some lore videos, I realize that the storyline for this game is deep and very interesting. It’s so different from many video games. You’d expect to be some great hero after beating the game but nope, you were just being used to prolong the inevitable, it’s like both ending choices are “bad” either way.
That and how fast you can exploit the ledges in the arena and use fire bombs to kill that sucker. The Capra Demon almost made me shit my pants the first time I crossed through that white portal.
GAPING DRAGON REVEAL WAS TOO SWEET OMFG. That said he was sort of a punk to fight though, he only flew once on me and that kinda hurt but aside from that I beat him pretty handily.
Killed the first phantom that invaded me ever today :encore:
They came running at me with no clothes and a cleaver, got em good. I couldn’t find the next one that came into my world but he died to poison and/or baddies. Thanks Blighttown!!!
Finally beat Orn and fatboy…damn this dukes archive is killing me.
That was Maneater Mildred, an NPC Phantom. There are a few more like her scattered throughout the game.
Theres like 10 npc phantoms, and you killed one of them.
Yeah that was Maneater. You’ll want her to tank for you when you fight Quelaag, the boss of Blighttown area.
Maneater’s summon sign (after you kill her) is right outside Quelaag’s fog door.
That’s right! That’s part of the reason why I stopped playing this damn game. I found out too late about the phantoms to fight. I’m about to head into Blighttown and I remember being mad that that one guy who gives you spikey armor for beating him three times I missed him twice already. Grr! I just want to hurry up and beat the game so I can go back and get cool stuff.
shit really? I thought that was a weird name for a PSN account. I killed Quelaag w/o her though, like 5-6 tries. How do you trigger the phantoms, are they in every area? Unrelated, what do I have to do to use the Black Eye Orb (the firekeeper one) so that I can save my firekeeper’s soul or something…
Dark Souls had what, 5 BP/Dark Spirits you could fight if they ‘invaded’ your game:
Spoiler
Kirk, Knight of Thorns (The Depths, Demon Ruins, Lost Izalith)
Maneater Mildred (Blighttown)
Paladin Leeroy (Tomb of the Giants)
Xanthous King, Jeremiah (Painted World of Ariamis)
Marvellous Chester (Oolacile Township)
I liked how they appeared, with the notice and everything.
Also, being able to summon some NPC Phantoms for some of the boss fights was a nice touch.
Demon’s Souls had a lot of BP stuffs IIRC:
Spoiler
Executioner Miralda (1-1, PBWT)
Penetrating Sword BP (1-4)
Scraping Spear BP (1-4)
White Bow BP (1-4)
Ostrava BP (1-4)
Scirvir, The Wanderer (2-2, PBWT)
Great Club BP x 2 (2-2)
Lord Rydell (3-1, PBWT)
Baby’s Nail BP (3-1)
Old Monk boss fight (3-3, online)
Satsuki (4-1, PBWT)
Uchigatana BP (4-2)
Selen Vinland (5-2, PBWT)
Garl Vinland (5-3, PWWT)
Meat Cleaver BP (5-2)
Also, additional enemy BP appearances in each world, in regard to BWT/PBWT stuffs.
Exploring the various worlds/levels often made for some interesting times/experiences when BPs were present.
There isn’t a phantom to help you with every boss, but whenever there is one around to assist you their summon signs are almost always near the fog door before the actual boss fight. Some are clevery hidden, some are out in the open. Some phantoms (like Maneater) you must kill before they’ll help you out, others (like Witch Beatrice) will help you out just for the hell of it.
Their summon signs look like any other, and the requirements are the same. You must be in human form to successfully summon them. Maneater’s sign is…pretty blatant, to say the least. So if you didn’t see it I’m assuming you weren’t human when you challanged/beat Queelag. Queelag isn’t that hard solo though…but there is something oddly satisfying about killing Maneater and then having her become your ally against Queelag.
Are those knights in Anor Londo shooting fucking swords at me!? Hell… I figured out how to beat the golems (which takes like 5 minutes a piece) then I have to trick those ugly gargoyle bastards to fall off the roof and now I have to deal with super archers…damn
fog ring + poison arrows + hornet ring = dead archers… after a minute or 2.
Just snipe them and chill til they die from the poison. It usually takes 3-5 arrows to poison them, and you might have to poison them a second time to finish them off.
I think you meant to say Hawk Ring instead of Hornet Ring here, with the former adding to bow range distance, while the latter adds a boost to critical damage inflicted via riposte/backstab stuffs.
If you are feeling brave/gutsy (and without some helpful stuffs on your first go-around), you can also engage the archers from the 1st walkway leading up to them and take (poison) arrow potshots at them there, while being somewhat protected from their lance-arrows by the fence-like railing protrusions that line the sides. Though it’s a bit risky, slowly traverse the 1st walkway and you may notice that their arrows are sometimes unable to reach you due to them hitting against the rail-fence instead. When it’s relatively safe (both archers are unable to hit you because their arrows are being blocked), enter 1st person mode and fire your poison arrows (use wooden/standard arrows to gauge target distance/hitting first before switching to poison arrows), making sure to not move from your spot, and once the poison activates, just wait it out until they are both killed.
Where to get stuff:
Spoiler
Ring of Fog - Trade a Skull Lantern (drop from Necromancer in The Catacombs, treasure in Tomb of the Giants where Patches knocks you down into the pit area) to Snuggly the Crow (located cliff-side at Undead Asylum), or gift reward from the Forest Hunter Covenant for killing a number of invaders.
Poison Arrows - Purchased from Undead Merchant Female in the waterway shortcut area leading from Lower Undead Burg (near The Depths entrance) to Firelink Shrine.
Hawk Ring - Treasure chest near the Giant Blacksmith in Anor Londo.
LOL! This made me chuckle! They’re shooting Dragon Slayer Arrows at you. Not swords.
Whoops, yeah the Hawk Ring. I didn’t realize how awesome that ring was until way late in my playthrough.
That part in Anor Londo is fun in New Game+ when you come back with the Dragon Slayer Bow. You can give those archers a taste of their own medicine and knock them off the ledge in 1 or 2 arrows.
Good! It was mostly a joke. But them archers are fucking serious, I tried to get my bloodstain back after that post this afternoon and got eaten alive by them guys again so I went back and got some arrows to maybe shoot em with, I haven’t gotten back to AL yet went over to my buddy’s house for a couple of beers.
I really thought they were like lances at first though, big fucking arrows.
If you feel brave you can dash up to the silver knight on the right and melee him. The left one can’t hit you with his arrows when you’re on the right side of the walkway.
