Demon's/Dark Souls Thread. Dark Souls II!

maaaaaan, i missed out on a lot of weapons !
lol.
I’m at the final boss. Gonna see if I can craft some of the rare ones.
Not sure if I got sifs sword or not

Why do the silver knights drop some of the best stuff?

This new Dark Souls II interview is pretty relieving. Shibuya seems to get the picture.

Here.

A lot of amazing weapons are spread out as monster drops, cut tails and treasures.

Silver knights has a lot of decent stuff, though I wouldn’t call it the best. I like the silver knight spear, a great divine weapon for dex characters.

To be frank, the only weapon I think is considered the best is the Artorias great sword scaling off max stats across the board. Everything else has it’s own role and uses and gives players plenty of freedom to pick a playstyle and build. It’s good design. Can be improved the next game, like some STR weapons not being so absurdly heavy.

-inc brainstorming-

If it’s going to be that heavy, it better have some utility that makes it worth using such as

•Do away with the dead-angle/cross up mechanic and redesign poise on armor to accommodate with the following suggestion. Give specific Ultra greatswords, greataxes, great hammers the capability to do unblockables. Should have super armor with a set amount of poise, charging mechanic similar to focus attacks, a fully charged attack is unblockable. Bypassing super armor grants a bit extra stagger, whiffing a fully charged hit will have a long recovery time. Move set will vary as usual.

•Some bigger STR weapons will have a better defensive use. It’ll give up the unblockable mechanic for better stability and damage reduction while blocking with it *Similar in effectiveness to the Great sword from the Monster Hunter series.

-•> possibly a better “kick” by using the weight of the weapon while 2handing the weapon that’ll cause more stagger or pressure on a blocking opponent.

-•> an option to parry while wielding the weapon 2handed.

To counter balance this; walking speed is reduced while the weapons are drawn. Takes a bit longer to weapon swap in and out of these weapons.

Maybe for the hell of it, weapon swapping should be a new attribute for each weapon/shield. Like examples being; daggers/small shields could be capable of instantly/quickly swapping in and out, while weapons like straight swords, bows and medium shields will have an “average” swap time, bigger weapons/shields will take longer. Etc…

Would be a interesting mechanic for both PVE and PVP. Would add some utility to daggers and smaller shields while bigger weapons can get new stuff too.

A lot of my ideas kinda stem off from the utility and mechanics that Monster Hunter weapons bring. Combat is pretty similar too.

Interestingly enough when I was riding on the bus thinking about Majora’s mask’s lore, I found that it was oddly subtle like Dark souls. Similarly dark and sometimes horrifying too.

That’s relieving. It seems like both of them are trying their best not to disappoint us. The bit where he mentions how the game will probably be slightly easier up until a certain point pretty much sounds just like what Dark Souls did with the bells of awakening.

Is…this going to be an actual thing in DSII? That sounds pretty scary to me… I remember some parts in Dark Souls where the atmosphere was just so foreboding that I hesitated for a while on whether or not I wanted to progress. I really hope that sense of fear transfers over to this game as well.

I’d like to see a bit more thought go into the different weapon attacks. Some weapons, like the Black Knight Greatsword and especially the Black Knight Greataxe have some power attacks that are so absurdly slow as to be almost entirely useless when you can just do a couple normal attacks in the same amount of time for equal or more damage

meanwhile the zweihander two-handed power attack is relatively quick, very useful in narrow spaces, and knocks even many high-poise enemies down in one hit and lets you smash them again while they are getting up

Pretty much this. Though BKG and BKGA do have their uses in pvp/pve. Zweihander and BKGA I believe both got nerfed in the 1.05 patch.

A big notable mention to Large club having such a a fun and versatile moveset, great STR scaling, DOES NOT WEIGH A TON, and has a bit of poison as a bonus. You only need about 28 STR to min max it while two handing it too.

welp double post

well I’m looking through the wiki… not that many weapons that look that great.
I’m level 10X, and the Axe is the strongest w/o boost. it does 343, so its better than some of the boss and accession weapons.

Looking at getting the gappin dragon and Gwen.
Artorious is good ( ill get cursed next time) but I’m Str,end, vit, dex firstI cant use it because it requires some magic…

I got button mashed parried for button mash attacking.
Well, i was trying to chain it.

Black Knight sword is incredible if you’re willing to put the effort into upgrading it. Actually, a lot of the Black Knight weapons are pretty badass.

Also, get the Artorias Greatshield. It weighs way less than Havel’s shield and has better poise I think.

Greatsword of Artorias is impractical for anything other than PvE. It requires so much stats to be good; can’t even enchant it either.

Artorias damagefor both versions

[details=Spoiler]Non-cursed version:
40 across the board = 658
99 across the board = 720

Cursed version:
40 across the board = 539
99 across the board = 587[/details]

Best weapons IMO would be the low stat reqs like Uchi, Iaito, Obsidian Greatsword, etc. that have 400+ damage at max refinement and are enchantable.

Over 800 damage for a basic enchant build

[details=Spoiler]TCC (32 INT) + CMW = 355 damage
Obsidian Greatsword@+5 = 480

Same can be done for a FAI based.[/details]

Yeah forgot to write it off as impractical. Just brought out the fact that it’s the only true best weapon once you get those stats.

Obsidian Greatsword is pretty much a BKGA that almost anyone can use. Pretty stupid lol.

They all have different move sets and properties if you didn’t notice. Something like Ricard’s rapier can do an excess of 2k-4k+ damage on one R2 if enchanted + power within.

Moonlight greatsword hits with ALL magic damage and hits like a truck, and can shoot projectiles that knock down.

Estoc and other rapiers has hidden crit modifiers

Gold Tracer has stupid high DPS if you factor in bleed and also has a nifty offhand moveset

Reinforced Club is one of the best weapons for a SL1 character

Great scythe is dangerous with dead angles in pvp

Avelyn is a beast ass rapid fire cross bow that can do good damage in pvp.

Composite cross bow fires a bit faster than the other bows, so it makes a good midrange pressure weapon if used with poison arrows.

List goes on. The only weapons I wouldn’t recommend other than novelty is whips and fist weapons.

Dragonbro fisting for life.

Does Velka’s Rapier have a hidden critical modifier?

from reddit

Yes it does. Rapiers are pretty much daggers that have a use outside of backstabs. Velka’s rapier is pretty boss too.

You know, dual dragonbone fists on a future Kenshiro alt would be fun.

Made a Kenshiro build using fists. It’s fun but painful.

It also doubles as a Dragonbro build.

For my character Velka’s Rapier does a TON of critical hit damage, more or less as much as a CMW Bandit Knife does.

equip bow and arrow, shoot 2 arrows close to each other, walk between the arrows. piece of piss.

Or just follow the snowflakes that show you the path…

Or you could run forward like a boss.

Now getting to the blue titanite slab on the other hand…

Sounds about right lol. How much does a poke do on counter hit. With and without leo ring?
