Yeah, Maneater’s a bitch. I tried beating him myself with other players, but I ended up doing it solo. Best way to win is to stay in the middle of the bridge with the torch.
@HaiDuongRiceMan: I like the Penetrator boss design so far.

IMO using the Tower Knight’s soul to get warding is the best thing you can do for yourself vs Maneater. He’s still by far the hardest boss I’ve seen.
How do you change soul tendency to white if I’ve defeated all the bosses except for the 1-4 boss? I don’t want to fight the boss with darker tendency…he’s a big enough pain already. Seriously, level drain? :bluu:
Demon’s Souls is a rad game. Played it for a bit at my friends house and enjoyed it. He is level 47 right now.
If you have pure black world tendency, two things will appear: a special black phantom enemy and a “primeval demon.” If you kill both of them in a single run (once you kill one you cannot go back to the nexus or else the tendency will shift and the other will disappear), your world tendency will go up to 1 below pure white.
Consult the wiki or other guide/faq for more details: http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/intro
I can’t remember if this is right or not, but does Rage Quitting during a boss fight in Soul Mode reset World Tendency online?
I have not heard of that, but generally if you’re worrying about tendency you should probably just play offline.
I beat penetrator today by removing my pants. True story.
After many repeated attempts and regrinding lost soul levels (due to his stupid soul drain attack), I’ve finally beat the False King. Since my character is primarily melee-oriented, I tried taking him down with pure melee, and the closest I was able to bring him down to was 10-15% health, until I accidentally rolled into a wall and got soul drained to death.
I got bored of being killed by him, so I started working on upgrading a bow. After I maxed out a sticky compound long bow, I tried it out on the False King, and damn I was surprised at how easy the fight became. I spent so much time upgrading my soul level, shield, and sword in order to fight him, when all that I should have done was just use a bow, lol.
Bows are crazy good and I think a lot of “pure melee” players avoid them because they are used to ranged weapons using stats like Dexterity in other RPGs. In this game though, strength seems to give more of a damage bonus to normal bows on the default upgrade tree.
My lower-level knight does more damage with a less-upgraded bow than my higher-level thief.
I beat the game last night. The end boss was not what I expected.
Now I’m deciding whether I should focus on getting black tendency for new game+ or leave it for a brand new file, and basically be an “evil” character. I decided that on my next playthrough, Patches needs to die, but that doesn’t make me evil…he’s a bastard.
I accidentally attacked the woman in 2-1 thanks to the ps3 controller’s super-sensitive triggers. She was still hostile when I returned, so I killed her, and surprisingly enough I felt really horrible about it. Her existence always struck me as really depressing, and the idea of her meeting such a miserable death trying to scratch out a living in a shitty place like that was pretty epic. It was kind of awesome, since I’ve been mostly desensitized to stuff like that by now.
I just ran through area 2, armor spider was super easy with purple flame shield+5. Flame Lurker wasn’t too bad I just kept backing into walls and would die because I had no room to roll back, so I just used the bones. dragon god(was surprised how quick you get to it) wasn’t too hard, but it took me a while to get the timing to run to the last set of ruble and break it, cuz I was using soul arrow to break the rest while hiding behind a pillar, haha. love this game
I just upgrade my winged spear to a moon winged spear it has a lot less attack(but has added magic damage, which uses my magic stat), and now I’m looking for a better bow, and a second weapon for enemies resistant to magic, any suggestions?
The best easy-to-reach bow is the compound longbow in 4-1. I think it’s by the skeleton archer in the tower all by himself. I recently picked up the White Bow from somewhere in 1-3 or later but it isn’t as good (yet) as my compound longbow+6.
As for other weapons, do you have higher strength or dexterity? For dexterity, daggers and curved swords (kilij from 4-1 near the where the Vanguard sub-boss is/was) are good. For strength longswords are extremely well-rounded and efficient, with an excellent stabbing attack that also does piercing damage. I’m tempted to name the longsword class as the most useful and flexible in the game, but I haven’t seen too many of the top-tier weapons from each class. Having a good club or axe is also good for enemies vulnerable to crushing damage (skeletons, etc).
I have also had a good experience with the uchigatana but it’s more situationally useful and a longsword or kilij would serve you better.
It’s kind of hilarious that after all this time I still haven’t quite finished the game. I have like 3 separate characters running simultaneously and am terribly addicted to collecting and upgrading all the weapons I can, even if they are of no real use to me.
I am a fan of the regeneration items. For the most part, if you are down on HP/MP, the regenerator and fragrant rings help greatly in the midst of a battle. Using herbs can really slow you down.
Crescent Falchion +1/Regenerator Ring = gdlk.
What’s the verdict on the Lava Bow? I like it.
I got this game yesterday. It was the only copy of the game that the gamestop I went to had even received.
I like what I have played so far and it will only get better imo
Game is crack. Magic and Bows are safe and deals good damage, but melee weapons feel very rewarding when doing a parry into riposte.
I started with a magician, but am currently leveling his strength to balance him out.
I wanted to use an uchigatana, but I find that the strong attack for it takes too long in comparison to the longsword. Couldn’t adjust to that extra half second of start-up, everyone was raping me for free.
I’m beginning to think I’m never going to find a weapon that will trump my longsword +6.
I feel the same way about my Falchion, I got one of those Katana and boosted it up but the attack speed is slooooooow
thanks for the info, I’ll have to look for that bow soon. I’m still using the short bow from 1-2.
Right now my stats seem kinda even, but I’m not really trying to be a jack of all trades(which is probably bad). My strength is 22 which is just enough for purple flame shield, and my dex is 20, though I plan on raising it a bit more for my bow skill (I hear the bow you mentioned can be turned into the sticky compound long bow, which uses dex). Been pumping into magic (20) and faith(18) as well, since I want to play it more ranged, but sometimes it’s just easier to get in their and melee, which is why I have my Moon Winged Spear.
