Demon's/Dark Souls Thread. Dark Souls II!

Yo you guys that just picked this game up are all noobs alright? If you are a real demon souler you got the korean version of this game way back in the day and are already boss as fuck at this game :cool:. That said, I’m glad everyone is picking this shit up cause its pretty much the best game to be released in many years. Now a few random shits i wanna say about this game;

-It’s not your standard “get a group of your friends and run around killing fucks”. The online system makes it rather difficult to get a predetermined group of people together, and I’d advise you not to try and play it that way. It’s more like a zelda type game imo, and if you treat it as such you’ll find that its probably the best game of its type to date.

-demon souls is fairly hard. It’s not cheap, it’s not gay, it’s not unfair. It is UNFORGIVING. Everytime you die, it’s because you made some type of mistake that you really shouldn’t have. A few general principles that I think should really help new players (if you actually follow them):
-Do Not Rush. Trying to get through a level quickly is the most surefire way to get yourself killed in my (many hours of) experience with this game. Take every enemy on one at a time and don’t try to run through areas without killing anything. There are very few exceptions to this.

-Learn about world and character tendency. You NEED to know how this shit works if you want to get everything you can out of demon souls. World and character tendency affects many important events and items, and to really get it to work in your favor you need to know EXACTLY how it works.

-Upgrade your best weapons whenever you can. once you get the +7's of many weapons you can use your precious unique demon souls (that you SHOULD be saving, if you dont see an awesome spell that you will need) to get the unique weapons that will allow you to survive in the higher levels of demon souls. To this end, you should also be killing crystal geckos whenever possible to get the ores you need.

Yea i cant really think of anything else right now, havent had my ps3 for a month cause my fuckin PARENTS wouldnt let me take it to college… said im supposed to study or some shit…

so the world might be mended

Ohhh, ok damn I should have been faster when I chased it.

yeah it is, like mindless easy

I’ve actually had a pretty easy time killing those crystal lizards. If I see one from far away, I put on my Thief’s Ring and slowly walk up to it until I can target it, and then I use a bow to kill it. The only times that I rush towards them and attack with a melee weapon is when I can’t get a clear shot.

So yeah. One more day until fuck this game.

I disagree, armored spider is easy as melee if you know what to do. simply get right in his face, block his arm sweep, and when he does the arm drop, make sure you’re right in his face so you don’t hit, and smack him 3 or so times, rinse and repeat. when he starts the animation for the fire breath, just run back to the fog wall. the only damage you should take is the little from the web shots he does while you run back to him. make sure you have the purple shield to block the fireballs.

I was right about to fight the spider boss and the game takes me back to the title screen because I logged off the PSN.

How does that make any damn sense!

I’ll have to do a bit of grinding before I can learn some magic. How do you learn spells? That blank space there…do you use the boss souls to make spells?

you can use boss souls for powerful spells but most are just bought with souls from the 2 people on seperate sides of the bottom part of the nexus and from the sage guy when you get him.

I thought the sage sold magic, but he won’t sell anything to me. What do I have to do?

hmmm, not sure. he’s the sage from 3-1 right? is you’re magic at 10 atleast?

is it okay to use the unknown souls, like the solider soul and hero souls and what not? Im starting to realize more and more each day that thief class is super hard, my soul level is like 35 and my strength is only at 17. Also i havent killed one of theose crystal lizards, and im at 3-2. they keep getting away from me. really sucks i want to upgrade my simitar to +7 but i need, (i think) large hardstones.

Yeah, they’re only there to be consumed

Nah, I haven’t touched the magic stat since I started the game. I think the default stat for the wanderer is 7. I didn’t think about messing with magic until that boss battle.

Actually I think the scimitar uses sharpstone, which is a really hard thing to get chunks of, especially if you miss a lot of the world 2 geckos. One really handy thing you can do is to make sharp weapons to take advantage of your higher dexterity. World 4 is full of bladestone-dropping enemies, so you can get good items and souls at the same time. I was whoring out my +6 scimitar for a long time before I realized I could just make a +3 sharp kilij (better version of the scimitar) and already do significantly more damage.

Yeah, thief is hard, but there are things to do to make it easier on yourself, like wearing the thief ring most of the time. I’ve said it before, but get yourself a good bow (compound long bow from 4-1) and upgrade the fuck out of it, then make liberal use of it. If you see a group of enemies, snipe at them from a distance to draw them out one by one, or even shoot them to get their attention, then run away so they give up chasing you, and then come back and shoot them some more or even sneak up and backstab them as they walk back to their patrol area. Make sure you encounter Patches in 2-2 so he appears in the Nexus so you can buy heavy arrows off of him. And make sure to upgrade your magic and faith just enough so you can use a few spells/miracles, the Warding spell from Tower Knight’s soul lets you temporarily trade hits with enemies like a heavy class while retaining your awesome mobility

I think I might not have liked the game as much if I hadn’t started as a thief, it really forced me to learn some of the more subtle points of the game. I just wish the game was a bit more generous with little gems of knowledge like this, it took me forever before I heard about the gecko spawn limits and understood the stat bonuses on weapons and how the weapon upgrade system works.

Yeah you need a magic stat of at least 10.

And yes, any souls besides the boss ones go ahead and use. Save the boss ones for special weapon and spell upgrades unless you don’t plan on getting either for that particular soul.

That Demon Soul wiki is godlike btw, lol.

I went for the longest time getting those soldier souls, not knowing what they were. For some reason, I just never looked. I finally noticed what they were and had a fuck ton of souls to spend

btw the music in the nexus changed for me awhile back, that just means I’m getting further along in the game right? nothing special happening in their I should know about?

Gotta farm 5000 more souls till I can learn Evacuate.

I really enjoyed the music when I fought the Spider.

It’s great Johnny Quest vibe really didn’t fit my cheap standing at the end and shooting 80 arrows at it tactics.

The only thing I can really complain about in the game is the lack of changing your outfit. I am all about that in RPGs, it just makes it so much fun. “Look my pants are blue now! Plus 2 blue pants!”

There are a lot of different outfits, I’m on my 3rd set. Not as much as a MMORPG, but there is a variety. I am rocking the Saints armor set.
