Demon's/Dark Souls Thread. Dark Souls II!

As you run up to CD, take the right turn into the canyon/corridor. Stay at the back of it (where it makes the turn) and he’ll only do his tentacle slam. Just dodge into the other part of the corridor whenever you see him start up, the hit the tentacle while it is lying there on the ground, and do it over and over a few times.

So yeah, I think Demon’s Souls is a better game than Dark Souls.

-Pure White/Pure Black tendency’s are way more interesting than being human or hollow and having an extra enemy invading you. Pure White/Pure Black changed levels almost completely, with extra enemies appearing, and in some cases, unique enemies that would only appear depending on tendency.

-Demon’s Souls is a more polished game. Blighttown, dupes, glitches and exploits seem a lot more plentiful in Dark Souls than Demon’s.

-Level design is arguably better in Demon’s Souls. Enemy placement too, there are a lot of empty area’s in Dark Souls. You can run around for 5-10 minutes and not see a single enemy sometimes. Backtracking gets fucking ridiculous, too, even with warp since you can only warp to specific bonfires. The only time you needed to backtrack in Demon’s Souls was because you wanted to, not because you had to like in Dark Souls.

-Demon’s Souls has a better hub.

-Demon’s Souls has way better boss fights. Old King Allant is one of my favorite boss fights of all time.

-Demon’s Souls was more streamlined in some ways. I always knew where to go because of the way the world’s were designed. In Dark Souls, I was constantly getting lost and had to go on the net to find out where to go. You could argue this is a worse thing instead of a better thing, though.

I still love Dark Souls, I just think Demon’s Souls is a slightly better game. Anyone else agree? I started having these thoughts towards the end of my first Dark Souls playthrough.

THANK YOU.

Someone else thinks the way I do, about this.

Dark Souls is too linear, comparatively too.

In Demon Souls, you could tackle several different areas at any one time, after the first one.

I beat 4-1 2nd or 3rd, usually.

Dark Souls will curb stomp you for this.

I have to admit, Demon Souls was good and all, but I feel like there’s more pros than cons in Dark Souls.

Demon Souls maps actually felt linear to me.
The fact that it was impossible to get lost in Demons was “bleh” to me. It was literally walk forward, the game! However, I will say the bosses are more epic in Demon Souls than Dark Souls. But in the end, the random enemies in the Demon Souls world were a joke in terms of design and fighting them. Dark Souls, not so much.

I mean, does Dark Souls have a boss like Maiden Astraea ?

I want to say I enjoyed the side characters more in Demon Souls than Dark, but in the end, it feels like all of Dark’s characters are just copy paste from those in Demons. In fact, the more I play, the more I feel like Dark is just a prequel to Demons.

Plus, Demon Souls had several glitches as well.
I don’t recall any as bad as duping, but I do recall the infinite soul glitch.

But then again, I’m not done with Dark Souls, but I’m loving it more than the first time I’ve played Demon Souls.

I hated the tendency system. Hated it. I’m not really feeling the hollow system this time around though, but I like it more than shitty white/black system. It took too much effort to get things like you wanted, and if you played online then things were based on that instead of individually. And there was the dumb system of player tendency and world tendency. The covenant system is nice, but does get irritating with all the hoops you have to go through sometimes.

I felt like this game was more polished. It feels like there is a lot more content and a lot more world, like Demon was a tech demo or a proof of concept for this one. There are some areas that needed more tweaking, but the stages feel better to me since you are exploring and not just trying to get through them. And once you become familiar with them, you appreciate the layout for them more since you can get from point A to point B with not that much effort. There do need to be better mobility options-- either a faster run speed or rolls that take less stamina or SOMETHING-- but the enemy layout is fine since not every area is a mini-level, and areas need tempo. Hell, look at the prison in the last one.

I think in the technical problems are worth mentioning, but they didn’t take away much. The only fucked up area was Blighttown, and that place would have been horrible without all the chunkiness. Aside from that and weird slowdown against Quelaag and when climbing a ladder in the forest, it isn’t like it popped up so much. The dupes/glitches and shit will be patched out, and weird problems like that are to be expected when you make a more ambitious game like this one.

I agree about Firelink sucking. Sucks hard. End game, I only have a few NPCs hanging around because everyone left to get hollowed. The good blacksmith should have relocated there.

As for the boss fights,

Tower Knight < Iron Golem
Leech Demon < Centipede
Dragon God < Bed of Chaos
Maneater > Gargoyles
False God < Pinwheel
Flame Eater < Quelaag
Vanguard Demon < Stray Demon

IMO, for the remakes.

Orn/Smo and Sif were fun fights in their own right, and the remake fights had more variety in what they did and what strategies you could abuse against them. This game had its share of pushover bosses, but with the, what, five? different classes of character and waaaaaay more diversity in offense with the change to the magic system, things had to be fair even without being too tough.

Maiden Astraea is the best boss… EVER!!!

Anyone who disagrees with a big fat doo doo head.

She didn’t have an analogue in this one, unless you could titty princess.

i havent gone through the entire game yet but id like to see a video of someone running around for 5 min without seeing an enemy. i have a hard time believing this.

also, what about the old king (i dont remember his name) boss fight in the demon souls! that was the tightest boss fight in the game for me…that dude was a beast.

for me difficulty wise demon souls was easier, but i think this is because they toned down magic in this dark.

as for which is better, it’s just a matter of opinion, i havent finished dark yet so i’ll wait till i finish for an answer on that

in the area after quelaag the demons lair or something, there are 2 souls you can pick up once the lava clears. one in the middle of the lava, of which i sacrificed my self to pick up. the other is on a small rock surrounded by lava, but i cant get up on that rock to pick it up, it looks like you could step up on it but you can…i tried doing the running jump but that doesnt work…any idea how to get this one, that is if you know what im talking about.

I think you just have to find the right angle of attack. I remember grabbing both of those as soon as I could. There might be a way to drop down from above, but I honestly can’t remember having issues with that one-- the one in the middle of the lava killed me lots and lots of times though.

You can come back later when you get a thing that helps you deal with walking on lava to get it, but I’m pretty sure it is one of those gain-souls items.

Demon’s Souls came out in JPN 8 months before the US. The game was less glitchy, because they had already patched it before it got here.

I hated World Tendency.

Yeah I HELLA DISAGREE about level design being better in Demon’s. This game has way WAY more interesting areas both in visuals and flow.

The overall aesthetics are a million times better and more varied, all of the new armor looks better, the new weapons and animations are all great.

From what I can tell more builds are viable, and the regular enemies are much more fun even though the bosses are generally easier. I prefer it this way though cause it makes a much larger area of the game more interesting.

Really glad tendency is gone and replaced by stuff like Covenants and the Humanity thing. Joining covenants like Darkmoon and Forest Hunter are really cool from a story/RP kind of perspective and just really adds to the immersion. Overall I really like the way the covenants interact with with players way more in this than the simple Black/Blue/Red phantoms.

If you read the very first note, it says that it’s an issue being addressed. Not that they are enabling it.

I don’t know which one he picked up but one of them is the chaos ember I believe. If you have flash sweat you can grab them b4 centipede demon. The chaos ember was so far out that I still died though even after getting it.

Yeah, he said he got that one. The other one I can’t remember having an issue getting.

The only beef I have with Dark Souls is the char creation. I guess they didn’t give you much options because you’ll spend most of the time undead with an ugly scarred/burned face anyways. I almost wanted to make a female char, but I think she’ll just frighten me.

What I tell people who ask me about Dark Souls and have played Demon’s is, they basically just remade Demon’s, but made it better. I love the interconnectedness of the world. The level designs were made nicely. Sometimes I"m like where the hell does this lead to and it’s a shortcut. Then you look at the overview map of this game, and it’s like wow, makes sense. Honestly, I ran through some bosses in Demon’s just as easily as in Dark. If anything, I’d say Dark is easier only because of the location of bonfires. I also like how they changed the armor/weights. As long as you had enough endurance, you can wear heavy armor and still be fast. I’m not sure if it’s the same in Demon’s because once I put on leather armor and was rolling fast, that’s how I rolled for the rest of the game and didn’t care about anything else.

Yeah i think you’re right in the fact that its a consumable soul item. I remember being let down when I grabbed it.

Going to say right now, I’m man enough to admit I turned on the lights part-way through 3-1 in Demon souls. Fuck those bells.

Thanks. The uchigatana is easy enough to get, but I know the Makoto does a ton of damage right off the bat, and I have both the ring and shield, so I should be fine with it.

The one thing I dislike about Dark Souls is the weapon paths. Raw weapon is useless and I’m not a big fan of crystal either. I wish they just kept crushing and sharp paths so its easier to get S stat boosts in STR or DEX.

Just want to be clear before I go around killing NPCs; the only drawback to killing those who offer a convenant is that a) you can’t join the covenant and b) you get your name put in the Book of the Guilty, right? And you can be forgiven if you have enough souls? Because there’s some NPCs that have some sweet gear but I want to be sure on the repercussions…

Those stat scaling don’t do shit so it doesn’t matter anyway!
