Woah, Zak Bennet actually had a legitimate use for the level 3. But he dropped it. He does it a few games into the FT15 against Fanatiq. Can anyone figure out exactly what he was starting to do/what it was supposed to be/etc.? It looked like it would be sick.
Man, Zak Bennet is such a beast. He is making me want to pick-up my Firebrand team again. I’m definitely going to give firebrand more play time cause he is my type of character - underplayed and underestimated beast. I have a question for you guys…What do you guys think of ZBs team construction? I see him go for so many resets with Firebrand I feel that he might as well go full on Firebrand/Doom or Firebrand/MODOK etc for the easy TAC kill combos. Also, the only time I see him struggle is when his firebrand cant get in there to mix it up and something like fireball, LB, fireball spam with missiles will go a long way to help with that. However, its undeniable how powerful Stalking flare and coldstar is for Firebrand. I cant wait for more videos of this guy <3.
He did it here:
This is more Dorm than Firebrand but this is the unthinkable combo Zak Bennett did to wolverine in CM4…

I know you didnt ask for this, but I watched your match and saw some things I wanted to tell you.
At
0:26 You could have dash away from the wall to make the combo easier.
0:29 I would have gone for the unblockable.
0:38 You definitely should have dash away from the corner. That way they have the wall to their back on incoming.
0:58 Again the same thing. I would have done the dash and went for the unblockable.
1:24 I would never try to do incoming mix up against sent due to hard drive. I too forget this and try but it is a bad idea. Try a meaty fireball or something else that cant be punished by a hard drive.
If your nervous playing online, you definitely need to relax more. Online there is no pressure. Come tournaments, that where the pressure is.
Hey thank you buddy! Anyway the reason I didn’t go for the unblockable is because the Sent/Firebrand Swoop is a a very Hard-to-blockable if you don’t tech forward (standing sets yourself up to be opened by an instant low with Hell’s Dive L). By not going for the unblockable at the beginning I conditioned the dude to block standing in other sets. So then I switched to the unblockable (cause its easier to combo off someone standing). Also I’ve been to a few locals and placed high but I always get nervous on camera :(.
Finally, I don’t know why I don’t dash during Firebrand’s bnb I just got so used to simply walking backwards XD
Anyway thank you so much for taking the time to watch my match. I highly appreciate it!
If you got the correct unblockable set up. You should always be able to continue a combo.
I got a video showing me converting from unblockables.
If you anyone decides to watch the video.
I no longer use that ammy reset anymore.
The commentary people were my friends so yea.
My opponent is our best player in the state, hence why the commentary got excited.
At the end, I got the nerves.

Watched the matches.
The unblockable set-ups and conversions were awesome but I think you need a stronger neutral assist that compliments Firebrand’s rushdown. I noticed that you were kind of fishing for hits in neutral. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but you were definitely at a disadvantage when it came to approach. I think your doom is strong enough where you can keep him anchor and bring in a middle man character who can help Firebrand get in with a strong assist.
With firebrand, you dont “need” a neutral assist.
It will be helpful to have a strong neutral.
Thank you for the advice but the team its self has synergy. As a firebrand player, I cant drop Ammy.
I still think when you go for the reset, you should go for the unblockable. Why give them a chance escape the reset by only blocking?
They can jump to avoid the unblockable. By swooping in early its an extremely hard-to-block set up. 95% of the time it works if you dont tech forward (but drones halt forward teching so its a win/win situation). But I’ll say I have to disagree when you mention that Firebrand doesn’t need a strong neutral. Something like drones ups his game immensely to the point where you’re nearly always in control…
Eh, I still think “meh” of Ammy for some reason. Yeah cold star is awesome up close, but wanes in effectiveness the further it gets away
When 2 of the 3 respected firebrands in our community does not have a strong neutral assist. There is probably a good reason why they decided that their team does not have a strong neutral assist.
Are you saying those two handicapped themselves?
I checked and your right they can jump out of it but come on you got drones. It took me less than 2 mins to figure out a set up where they can not.
First off, I hardly think our Firebrand community is at a point where we can debate “good” and “bad” strategy with certainty. As of right now, the only thing we know is that a couple of combinations work out of a million possibilities . So honestly, I don’t know if they’re handicapping themselves or not. I’ve never seen Zak or the other guy run a set with Firebrand and a strong neutral. Although at the tournaments I’ve been to I’ve placed high by running Firebrand w/ a strong neutral and I can’t imagine him without one. Especially against teams like Magneto/Morrigan/Doom
I’ll throw in my two cents and say that I really feel the lack of a strong neutral on my Firebrand team. If I swap Morrigan out for Hidden Missiles, matches are so much smoother. I think the ideal Firebrand team is something like Firebrand/Skrull/Sentinel.
I totally agree we are not yet at that point where we can decide what are good and bad strategy with certainty.
The problem with this argument is you. How can you say that we are not at the point where we know with certainty, then go you **NEED **a strong neutral assist.
We are not at a point where we can say that firebrand requires a strong neutral assist with certainty. That a team without this has a bad strategy. My argument is that both approaches is viable. Just to be clear. It is a team that either has or doesn’t have a strong neutral assist.
We are still in research and development stages in exploring this character. Please don’t say to people “hey, you need this” instead try “hey, maybe this could work out better if you use________?”
PS. Do you have any videos of you placing high in tournaments? I would really like to see your “source material”. Maybe those videos can change my thinking towards firebrand.
How is Cold Star not considered a strong neutral assist?
It’s not whether Firebrand needs a strong neutral assist. It’s the simple fact that EVERY team needs a strong neutral assist. Right now, people get away with having three point characters but as the game develops, that phase will pass.
I think we’re misunderstanding each other. Just so you know I wrote my original “Firebrand needs” post before heading out for work at 8 in the morning.
Anyway I think Firebrand should have a strong neutral assist. But you don’t necessarily have to have one. I apologize for the confusion. Regarding the videos, they were local tournaments but Ill see what I can dig up.

Hey guys, thought I’d post this here since this is less dead than the Ryu forums, and the Firebrand section of the video (from about 2:45 until 6:05) is the longest one anyway. A combo vid I made featuring my team.
Video was sick, good job dude. Do you start Brand or Ryu first?
Also, what is the music? I feel like I’ve heard it before.
