So apparently, just about the whole original cast will be gone mid season 7. The writers intend on milking this thing for all it’s worth.
They have had to throw money at Ash, Craig, and Lauren to come back. They will have to do the same to Manny, Emma, Shanae, Jimmy, and…well…everybody else because no one wants to do the show anymore.
I even hear that they are planning on starting over with a new 7th grade class.

I know if I was most of the current cast, I wouldn’t want to be hanging around anymore either. I mean, I’m sure Degrassi is a dream gig when you’re 12 and desperate and trying to get on tv, but when you’re 19 and been on tv for 6 years and you have other stuff to your credit too…
I’d imagine continually playing a high schooler on a melodrama would slow your acting career down.
That said, I’d be open to a new class if the writing was hot. Gimme something fresh or different with a good cast and some interesting circumstances and I’d think about sticking around. Probably wouldn’t though.
I wonder if The N would actually be interested in a reboot with middle schoolers; they almost never show the older Degrassi eps with the much younger cast, and all their other shows on The N are high school and up. Middle school seems to be a bit young for the level of drama and sexual tension The N is after.

if they rebooted degrassi with new middle schoolers then i couldn’t really justify watching it anymore. the main reason people our age still watch this shit is bcuz we’ve seen them come up from little kids to practically adults, a reboot would be good in terms of building a new fan base though.
