Dee's Nuts: The Definitive Match-Up Thread

Only thing viper can do in this match is low meaties… Really.

Other that that stay away from fireballs because that’s a free seismo, obvs…
I’m not too keen on frame data but viper has trouble with 3frame moves in general. They stuff all her specials.
Oh and keep the pressure on. I used to main Rog so I think this match is cake with delicious frosting.

Safe Ken Help

So yea…safe ken…wtf do you do?

I’ve been playing DJ for a few weeks and generally haven’t found any horrible match-ups. (some defiantly not in his favor but usually i can see obvious solutions that work if I guess right) Until I ran into the problem of a Ken playing safe.

Never throw fireballs except that are not combo/block string block string, use forward step kick + c.mk->fireball block strings to walk me to the corner. (Of course mixed up with kara throws and fake step kicks) Random focus attacks to catch me trying to counter poke, never focuses when I have down back charge + EX. Jumps in on unsafe Air Slashers to punish and stays close enough to make all Air Slashers unsafe.

I guess right and get damage with pokes/short hops/sobats sometimes but in general I lose the life lead due to block stun if not anything else. Then I have no way to consistently start up an offence. Most annoying thing I’ve found is that c.mk puts ken low enough to avoid lk sobat so even guess low pokes correctly doesn’t seem to help.

The best of gotten this matchup is to try to play as lame as possible and get ahead with sobat chip and bait DP’s with short hops. But over the 99 seconds I eventually eat a combo and can not do anything to get myself back in the game. Any advice on this?

Ken is seriously the only shoto that can give Dee Jay serious trouble IMO… Maybe Sakura tok because they both play the same (insane mixups/resets and such)

I’ve played some good Ken’s and what I look for is how he follows up after a step kick. Some Ken’s go for a cr. Medium into hadouken. If you can read it right lk sobat over the cr mk or ex through the fireball.

Air to airing Ken is never advised . Ex tatsu is just too good.

And be wary when upkicking an ex tatsu. It moves so fast you might fail at auto correct and eat a combo.

Fireball wars from fullscreen is ok. Our fireball > Ken’s.

After a step kick f. MK frame data says he’s at -2 (not sure if it becomes safer at a farther distance). So you should be able to susually mash out a ~reversal timed cr. LP to beat most followups if close except if he goes for a DP. cr. MK works too, if it trades it trades for a knockdown. LK sobat can go over a cr. MK just make sure it’s not too early or it won’t go over. You can also try blocking or backdashing and mixing it up between pushing buttons and not pushing buttons.

Just watch what he does after and make the adjustment.

If you need to AA him go with st. HP which is better than MP against shoto jumpins.

Also if he’s psychic jumping in on your fireballs you need to change something cuz your predictable. Maybe ry taking an extra step back next time, or walking back then letting the stick go neutral (like how you stop to throw a fireball) and looking for a jumpin to AA

If Ken tips with step kick he’s generally even or at + frames(5 active frames up to +3) which is why it is so good. generally just block and go for a late tech of kara throw. Hitting buttons after a blocked step kick from far range is asking to get counterhit.

You should be able to EX Sobat through the fireball if you know it’s coming. If you use U1 you could U1 through the fireball. I only mention this because so few people use U1 that I think you may be able to catch an opponent by surprise once with this. Depending on the spacing you may be able to lk sobat over the cr.mk. Backdashing avoids it and they won’t be able to cancel into the hadouken if you do that. Try mixing up your response.

Hey, everyone. I’m new to DeeJay but I work really hard and want to make some strides before AE. I wish I had a decent way of capturing videos of matchups I have trouble with but i don’t right now. But, if someone had the time and was feeling charitable I could show you some replays and we could 1v1 for a bit. :wgrin:

Send me a PM or add me on XBL

So I stuffed a wake up ex headbutt with a neutral jump mk…

Ex hb has 8 f startup yeah?

I’ve found that Rose is a hard matchup at least for my DJ. I feel like he has zero options.

I can’t fireball war because reflect will give her meter advantage or will just send the fireball to you pushing you to the corner/giving her space.

I can’t play footsies because hers demolish mine. Every range, Rose’s normals has one that beats yours. Crouching strong shuts me down. I didn’t get to try too many different things because of the arcade environment.

Any advice on beating Rose? Playing AE btw.

Well besides not fireball warring her (dont do this with any char v Rose, btw) stay on her.

Rose players love to do cr. short, cr. jab, cr. Mp xx either drill or fireball. Block that string a few times so you can EX sobat through. Pretty fool proof.

Her soul piede and cr. Fierce are pretty nice anti airs (along with U2). Bait u2 by knocking her down, jumping then knee shotting. If she activates just block, orbs do no chip damage.

Best poke in this fight is cr. Mk. No doubt. I play good roses daily.

focus dash to close in, use sobat kicks on that bitch. She can’t really do anything about them.

Dread kicks don’t really work that well in my experience against rose. the range of her low pokes wreck Dee Jay from my experience (which greanted is not a whole lot, but I feel it’s enough to make a comment about it).

Focus = Cr. Strong spiral. That’s no dice. Does sobat work over her slide? I tried it a few times but got beat out, maybe I was doing it too early. I got a little success using st. forward. Roundhouse was getting whiff punished by her roundhouse.

I couldn’t really mount an offense, I should’ve tried Sobat on wakeup if I predict a backdash.

I was playing Gootecks btw. So patient.

I was trying to experiment with an option select similar to what Balrog has for his c. HK with Deejays Slide against Viper. Other than realizing I don’t know what the hell I’m doing I did notice that the slide was beating the shit out of a lot of Vipers wake up stuff. It stuffs her Super too. Don’t know if that information can be picked up by one of the advanced guys developed further. Food for thought though…

i seem to have a lot of trouble with fuerte players, i keep getting caught with all the running around and moving he does especially on wake up. what the best option? i try to back dash to avoid a hit but i still end up being caught.

just upkick that shxt. if you hit him oh well if you don’t you’re far enough that i don’t think he can punish if you’re midscreen.

Got murderised by Bison safe scissor kick pressure.

No idea what to do.

  1. wait
  2. neutral jump
  3. try cr. mk
  4. try to catch him doing a cr. mk/lk and sobat.
  5. fireball.
  6. st. mk

There’s six things that i usually try. you have to stay out of the corner. i know its easier said than done.

I do all of these as well, except neutral jump (always afraid of that blasted s. HK).

I’ll add that some Bison’s like to take a step back if you’re in the corner, wait a split second and then scissor, trying to catch you sticking something out. If that’s the case, slide can work really well for scoring a knockdown.
