DeeJay General Discussion

Well I was training up for a AE tournament at the gameshop, but they deiced to make it SfXT. On the brightside I did get me a free copy of the game.

Only a month til Shadowloo Showdown, where I’ll be maining Dee Jay (thought it was going to be T Hawk until I felt comfortable in the swtich). I’m excited for my first major, and I should really ramp my training up. It’s going to be tricky with the PhD grind month from hell, but I’ll get my game into a decent state by then.

Need tips against blanka. Especially against mike ross’s. Deejay cant throw a fireball or jump in this matchup, sobat isnt safe to do as chip, dj lose mid range footsies. I normally just keep both charges and react to stuff, but one wrong guess cause u the game. Once blanka has the lead, i dont know what can DJ do.
I need some good safe jump setups for blanka’s 4f upballs. And what do you guys do when blanka do rainbow balls ( if you dont have charge)?

The matchup is stupid. It’s best to look at Blanka and wait for him to move and if he doesn’t move…you look at him again and hope he does something stupid. If that doesn’t work, you walk back and forth a little bit and hope that you can bait blanka to do something, maybe the player can be dumb enough to do a random slide. If he still won’t move, just sit there, because he has every advantage in the matchup. You don’t want to fall down, so it’s best to have a starring contest and from there, you have a chance. Try to get timeouts. And I’m serious. Not trolling.

In the DJ safe jump setup guide, there was a post about safe jumping Blanka but I haven’t tried it yet. Rainbow balls can be tricky to react to and it depends on space. Sometimes close st.mp can beat it but sometimes far st.mp come out instead. At certain ranges, DJ slide can get him out of the situation or cr.hp. I haven’t tried the new close st.hk and I can imagine that far st.hk might come out instead smh.

yea. That’s pretty much how i deal with blanka. Just sit there. I played mike ross in WNF yesterday and we just sit there for like 40 seconds in a round without anything happening. And i use ultra one, so i get a free 200 damage chip for the last 7 seconds. But its still really tough. And its really stupid DJ cant do anything if they do electricity on my wakeup, and they are in like +10 million frame advantage after it.

other players who like hatrify over me are blanka players. they say he makes the match feel even.

i didn’t see any videos, but the only thing i can think of is that he overwhelms them with offense.

the only problem with that is deejay’s offense is beaten by strong fundamentals, which is the way it should be with all characters.

back on track. either you lame it out or you try crazy overwhelming rushdown.

fireballs are already weak and blanka destroys fireballs free. and if you try to throw them fullscreen he gets that stupid ass coward crouch into electricity for free meter.

i love SF4, but there are things i disagree with balance wise. talking about blanka sim gief always incites these feelings.

Electricity usually stops my attempts at crazy overwhelming rushdown cold, so I gravitate toward laming it out.

Spacing and correct normal choice are the key. I need to get ferris or ves to help me again.

Tournament tomorrow

Hopefully the bracket gods bless me with a nice bracket.

Got 3rd. Lost to LuckyD in winner’s finals and my friends lame viper in loser’s.

I usually body my friends viper, but I got into a turtle mode and did dumb shxt. Needed that money. Oh well.

Went 4-5 against luckyD’s sim after tournament
And 5-4 against his fei.
Deejay’s zoning is so ass lol
Tournaments like this make me wonder why I play this character.

I’ll do a write up for beating Blanka later. It’s not as bad as you guys make it out to be. Of course I know all his shenanigans so that’s a big help. Patience is the key.

My pool for Shadowloo Showdown just got announced.

The international guest for my pool is unconfirmed, rumours are swirling around that one of the 2 remaining unconfirmeds is Ricky Ortiz, so maybe it’s him. I’ll keep an eye on the list to see if whoever it is does confirm at some point.

Other players in it include Phero (Melbourne’s top Guy, one of the best local players generally), HereComesTheBotMan (A Ken main/Bison secondary if his info is up to date), Gidster (never heard of him, in spite of his being local), and whoever registers and is placed in the pool between now and then.

I think I might have a shot against Phero if I can get some ideas and experience with the Guy matchup. I rarely get to play it.

play lame. practice some safe jumps. if you know you’re going to lose a round try to get him to burn meter on ex spin kicks.

sobats have to be spaced very well. if not then don’t do it

if he’s good, then don’t whiff normals. st. mp > whatever and then you’re in for more pressure.

i beat guy players, but i don’t know the matchup to be honest.

I had a chance to play some sets against him yesterday, and at least so far as he’s concerned, laming and playing more of a ground game is the way to go. He pointed out that I had some bad habits with slides and unsafe jumpins, especially going for knee shots after the fireball -> st.mk counter hit setup.

Something I’m noticing about my play in general is that I need to incorporate more anti-air normals as opposed to banking on upkicks, but that seems especially true in the Guy matchup where his Izuna and Elbow Drop both seem tricky to upkick against. I’ve been doing a lot of air-to-air fj.hp or nj.hps, but not standing normal anti-airs. And here I thought playing Dee Jay was going to get me out of mindless bad habits!

On the up side, spaced LK Sobats are really good in this matchup and I’m beginning to get a sense of when I can blow through pressure strings with an EX MGU or Sobat. It’s still at a bit of an intuitive level, but when I refine it consciously, I’m happy to share on that one.

air to airing will get you izuna dropped for free. I don’t recommend it, but if it works against him go for it.

I’m a bit surprised he wasn’t throwing that out, though that was more of a general comment than a Guy-matchup specific one. I think that against Guy it’s more important to do standing anti-airs for the exact reason you mentioned.

Low fierce beats guy’s izuna drop clean, and it can beat the elbow drop if you do it early.

Momochi just got added to my pool. Make my odds of an upset Top 32 appearance a lot slimmer. XD

don’t press buttons

So how many of ya’ll going to evo?

Damn, learning to play run away Dee Jay is getting on my nerves…
