I have a really good feeling that great things are coming. You’re right about Japan. I think Akimo(takehiko) is the only person playing Deejay in that entire country.
I check the 0shinakuma0 youtube channel all the time, and there haven’t been any Deejay videos in a long time. I’m starting to wonder if Take dropped him…
As for the buffs/nerfs, I like what i see so far:
Ryu’s cr. mk getting less active frames was the key one for me. I’ve been working on whiff punishing his cr. mk with Deejay’s cr. mk. It’s not easy but I’m getting better at it naturally (just from playing so many Ryus all the time).
But if Ryu’s active frames on cr. mk are reduced, does that mean the total frames will stay the same? (resulting in more startup or more recovery frames?). That would make it much easier to punish.
Love the damage reduction on solar plexus strike. It’s such a bitch when you get hit by that thing, especially cause the mashed fierce DP afterwards is a given.
With Rog getting more recovery on headbutt, does that mean it will be harder for him to juggle U1? Ha, what if that combo was no longer possible? Every scrub-Rog on the planet would immediately drop Rog.
I actually feel really bad for Cammy players. She needs that instant-CS. The extra frame advantage on her normals don’t really make sense to me. Her bnb links were already pretty easy to do (compared to Abel / Rufus).
All the Guy buffs are making me very hopeful. Cause Guy was kinda underplayed, but not nearly as underplayed as Deejay. So if they buffed Guy that much (with pretty much no nerfs), imagine what they’ll do for Deejay. Something good is coming… i can feel it
^I didn’t even think about the headbutt to Ultra being more difficult. It will probably still be hella easier than Dash U2 though.
And I don’t think Cammy needed TKCS pressure. She’s got good normals, and its kinda gimmicky. It gives like a million + frames on block, so they took it out in exchange for more frame advantage on normals. She has other combos besides her Bnb that are pretty hard to do, high damage but harder links timing, so they probably made that a little more lenient. I’m glad they did it, and she still can do the TKCS with EX so it’s not like she will never do it, she just doesn’t get to do it so many times per round.
I think she’ll still have meter-less TKCS, it just has a height restriction, similar to how Adon’s TK Air Jaguar Kick works.
But the reason i think she needs the instant version (no height limit), is cause it’s kinda the key to her offense.
It would be the same as putting a minimum height requirement on Rufus’ dive kick. He can’t play footsies very well (similar to Cammy), so if you remove his instant dive kick, his whole offensive game would unravel. Cammy utilizes a similar type of offense: using the instant CS to catch people teching / crouch teching / sticking out low shorts, etc. Or, if they’re blocking, to quickly start a block string and set up frame traps.
If you take that away from her, then what does she excel at? Not much. Yeah, her links are good, but you need that instant CS to open up the opportunity to use them.
She’s got no fireball, she can’t do shit from long range. Spin Knuckle is garbage, and the Hooligan Throw is slow as hell (even the EX can be ducked/countered on reaction).
If they’re gonna screw up the TKCS, they would need to give her more than just easier links. I personally think a safe spiral arrow would be perfect: take her light SA, knock it down to 80 damage, and make it safe from any distance. She could use it kinda like Bison’s lk scissors, except it hits low.
Are these changes set in stone now? I’m very much looking forward to an increased recovery on headbutt, and possibly some juicy dictator nerfs. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll be dealing with the bandwagon on the DJ boards soon.
If nothing happens and DJ gets worse, even if just by comparison to other buffed characters, I might jump ship down the tierlist for an alt, maybe try to make something of Hakan or Sakura. (They must have buffed Hakan, Capcom must be so upset that the new character they spent so much time on gets less than zero play at tournaments)
well I imagine that the changes are final, cuz they’re announcing them publicly on the dev blog. Also hakan is getting buffed, and hopefully DJ too, and the others that need it.
Yeah, Hakan even in this build isn’t low tier (but I think he is mid-low because he has know way to keep pressure off other than U2). It’s just that no one besides Wildcat knows how to use him.
Yeah looks tight. yellow, blue, dark green, black, and red are my favorites. I’ll probably go with yellow or red. I already downloaded it, Ima be looking fresh online.
The more I play Deejay, the more I think that he is not an underrated character. I think people know that he sucks. The good thing Deejay has going for him is when people dont have experience against a good Deejay. In these cases he can be very powerful (much like adon). Hopefully he gets looked at in AE can a few of his problems are corrected. An overhead is not gonna be the answer to any of his problems unfortunately. He needs either his slide to be safer or the hitbox on his anti air normals to be better. It is frustrating when you do st. HP and get the stupid two hit, or you do the st. MP and get that stupid hook punch. Also what is up with deejay’s slide getting blocked when you do it to certain characters who empty jump!
no…it completely rapes giefs and hawks online. Let me see you use that anti air in a tournament plz.
in fact let me see you use any of his normal move antiairs consistently in a tournament. actually in most of your videos i see you blocking jumpins when you dont have down charge.
