Well I’m gonna come clean and say that since I’m still on pad and dash U2 is shockingly hard on pad, I use walk U2 most of the time. The times that I do use U1 are when A) I’m feeling lazy and I don’t want the mental hassle of executing walk U2, B) when I’m against Hondas or T.Hawks, and C) when I feel I can bait fireballs effectively, or even bait the opponent into blocking for U1’s high chip damage.
I’ve also landed quite a few U1s against people trying to punish after a blocked EXMGU. You’d be surprised how many people go for the sweep or some other poke right after that. Obviously all this is against relatively inexpert players, and you’re right in saying that really good players won’t fireball at half-screen, they’ll know not to punish EXMGU with a sweep, etc. At the end of the day, I agree 100% that U2 becomes indispensable at the highest levels of play, and I’m definitely working towards dash U2 in general, but I think U1 gets underestimated a lot, too.
That said, I did just use U1 in a matchup recently and it was beaten by Dudley’s DP. I don’t know if that’s always the case, but I was shock and disappoint, son.
I for one am not confident enough to go for dash U2 in a match, but even though I can’t do it, I still wouldn’t pick U1 at all, except for maybe Sagat. As Verify stated, U2 has many more uses than just comboing after ex MGU and dash. It catches meaties on the ground (well U1 would do that too) but also some jumpins, neutral jumps and with a little autocorrect luck(I’m calling it luck, can’t get a hold of it) even crossups. Also it’s an awesome punish to unsafe moves.
I’m definitely sticking with U2 even if I can’t dash U2.
So, this may seem like an odd question, but anyone know what the frame differential is after a landed U2? The recovery takes so long that the other player is basically standing up after you land it. I swear I’ve been spd’d for free on hit. Is DeeJay +, - or even?
^I’m pretty sure he’s like at +2 or something. Usually after I land it, I either backdash, jump back, or walk back.
I’ll test it today after I land it, to see how far I can walk back before a reversal srk or spd.
Don’t backdash if you think they’re going to mash ultra, unless its a throw ultra. I’ve been ultra’d while backdashing.
edit: ok I tested it, and walk back isn’t a good option cuz they can wake up throw you. Backdash if good unless they ultra you. Usually I crouch and tech late, or backdash. You have a tiny bit of frame advantage I think like +1 or +2, because if they mash light punch, and you mash light punch you will stuff them.
No, it wouldn’t be. They can grab you as soon as they get up, before you can even walk back an inch. If you try for a meaty, you can get grabbed unless its a perfect time light attack, or unless they don’t time the throw right. But they can reversal you if you try to jab.
I think backdashing is probably the better option, especially against a grappler. Instant knee shot I think will be reversaled by time they wake up, if they have a decent DP or something. I’ll test it later.
ALSO woot! Dee Jay’s alt is in the first bundle. Comes out 10/26.
I think it looks pretty tight, just in orange. I forgot what kind of kicks he got, cuz you can’t see his feet. I’m hoping the other colors will look good too.
I liked his alt 1 when it first came out. I got it, but after a while I didn’t like it. He looks too 80’s cuz his shorts are like sweat pants material, the swishy kind. And I liked the headphones, but his dreads were retarded.
The gloves with D and one and J on the other shown in the sketch of his new alt looked awesome. Sadly they got rid of them and he’s wearing ones just like his original costumes in the alt now. This killed most of my excitement for the new alt.
I think the new alt would be the best Dee Jay outfit if they just took the jacket off and had him shirtless though. I like the rest but it just doens’t look right.
I don’t like his Alt 1 because A: Dee Jay doesn’t wear shoes B: His Trousers are way high around the ankles and I don’t like it C: I’m nto a fan of the gloves either. They look like they’re made of Wool: and D: It should say Maximum on the siode. Not the back. Alt 2 had fixed every sigle one of these at the cost of a Jacket that didn’t look too great. I was happy with that.
All the Japanese did was google “rastafarian” and used the most stereotypical image out the lot as reference.
He got boned on his alts, just like he got boned on his pokes and other short comings. BOO Capcom.
I know suits are being done to death in SSFIV but if they woulda gave Deejay an outfit like Screwface from Marked For Death that woulda been WAY better. Evil rasta lookin Deejay = FTW.
I overall like the new alt, but I wish Capcom would think outside the box and give him an alt that’s not basically normal wardrobe plus Jamaican colors.
But I guess that’s as likely as Fei getting an alt that’s not inspired by Bruce Lee, so whatev.
So DJ needs to be shirtless, shoeless, and have maximum on the side of his leg? Personally I like to see something different. I already got his normal one for the classic look, so give me something different for an alt. I think his hoodie is tight.
