Dee Jay Match Up Thread - A New Beginning?

get life lead n play lame

Sakura is very much like Seth in a way that she plays a very momentum based game. It can end badly for Deejay because she can steamroll you once you make a wrong guess and its just a series of multiple setups from there.

I think eating a few throws in this match is inevitable. I’ve had matches go south because I tried to late tech too much, and her frame trap combos really hit like a truck. but other than that, you do have many ways to keep her out at mid range to full screen. Its all about who keeps the pace up. If you kept her out for half the game and have life lead, you can be sure she will start to panic and make more mistakes. You need to stay solid and focused in this one more than any other match, auto-pilot = die. She also has no easy way out of our mini vortex without 3 bars.

I feel its even or slight advantage Sakura, but not the worst.

Air Slasher = 48 frames
Sakura jump = 40 frames
Jack Knife charge time = 55 frames
Air Slasher = start up 12 frames (you can see the air slasher itself earlier because of the yellow on his arm) free to move @37 frames

Dee Jay can fake AS all day, the second Sak sees an actual AS at least 12 frames have gone by, she jumps and hits heavy kick with 6 frame start up at the apex (4+18) and a total of 40 frames have passed… you only had 3 frames to AA this, standing close jab won’t cut it. She’s coming down with a five frame long meaty, it will hit your crouch, you have to block it… Back dash leaves you negative, if she hits your focus she will just dp you on landing…

There goes your play lame idea… You can’t, your normals can be wiff punished by her 4 frame crouch medium kick into dp and she has better pokes and a focus that jumps your crouching kicks but crumbles on trade anyway. She is going to get in and you are going to have to play good D.

Look I’m not saying that she is the greatest or you guys can’t beat her, but the site is for knowledge and as someone who plays this match up at a decent level, I’m telling you, it’s easier for Sak to win then DJ. You can label it 4-6 or 3-7 I don’t care, but if you are going to post that the match up is 5-5 you or your opponent ain’t doing it right…

As someone who has played this match up countless times it’s mostly even, with slight advantage Sakura, and this is against many different players of varying levels and styles. You can dismiss what I say, no problem, I do not have the online credentials to prove you wrong, but you should take into account slim and Da Knut’s input as well.

Isn’t it also a possibility you aren’t playing it right instead of the 3-4 other players who think otherwise? Everyone is after all still entitled to their opinion. Theory fighting and frame data is nice and all but when it boils down to the actual game playing, it usually gets thrown out the window. Match experience and play style also influence the outcome.

Valid point, its just my opinion so I’ll stfu now…

As for the frame data I posted, I was just proving that at footsie range you can’t throw out an AS vs an attentive opponent. My brother (always) jumps in, so I asked him how and he said he just waits to see yellow. When I looked at the frame data, I saw why he could just ignore my fake AS and just react to the real ones with up forward, so I posted the frame data as my proof because I’m poverty and have no way to record us playing…

This is going to sound stupid but the way Sakura should approach the matchup is play keep away. That’s her best option. I will fuck up a jump happy Sakura . That type of play style shouldn’t work against DJ. It sounds like you press too many buttons and don’t understand your AA options

To me it seems like you’re doing FB at ranges the opponent can react to.

It also sounds like you’re fighting someone who knows how you play.

dont forget far jab as a AA vs sak

That would be cool.

I feel Finkledoodoo’s pain on the Sak matchup. She gets in too easily and when she’s in, she’s in for good.

The thing that annoys me the most about that match is the air-fricken’-tatsu. I mean, why is that thing so good? Yes, if you’re charged, you can jackknife it, but choosing the right normal AA is very difficult.

If you slide, you’ll probably go right under her. If you do standing strong, it’ll most likely miss and you’ll get hit. Standing fierce? Nah. I’ve had more luck with cr.HP, but the timing is still weird.
Obviously, if she’s above your head, you go for close standing strong.

It’s easy to get scared to AA, what with all of Sak’s various jump-in attacks, but you have to attempt something, sometime.

The silver lining is that Sakura is one of the characters that you can “vortex,” to some degree. However, you must learn your opponent’s wake-up tendencies. Does he like to mash whenever he has EX? Does he wait until he has three bars to make it safe? This information is crucial.

Crouching strong has a great hitbox. I’d post a link but im on my phone. Go look at it on eventhubs.

I love this normal, it’s only problem is two active frames. It’s great at stuffing divekicks that try to go low for the blockstun.

I really hope they buff the active frames, and reduce the recovery by two frames.

His gripe is that it used to have a range similar to sakura cr. mp.

I understand his feels. it really does have no range tho. its priority is good.

worst part about it all is that they buffed the range :’(

Can I get the breakdown on how to approach the Able match I am tired of getting bodied by him.

Anyone have a good oki setup vs. honda? Straight up safejump is okay but then he can just backdash for free because if you os something will beat the os.

If you go for an ambiguous setup he can late lk splash unless you do the setup so late that it’s blockable both ways.

Want something universal

Lk splash can be blocked, its like 14 frames startup, If you are doing the ambiguous setup usually his reversal splash will go the wrong way, and you can block the delayed splash and punish accordingly. I’m more wary of ex headbutt to be honest, so I try to go for more safejump kneeshot setups to waste his ex. Same cr fierce setup after forward throw, kneeshot just after apex of jump, or slight step after cr mk knockdown (forward or backwards depending on distance of sweep.) kneeshot after apex of jump.

There is a buried thread that has a st mp OS vs honda that I think cannot be beaten or something; if you want to add it to your arsenal. I’ll try and find it for you

What is the best strategy to use against a Dhalsim player? I feel as though I have a hard time even against mediocre sims. What is the general strategy for the matchup?

Well, I’m no pro, but I guess I could tell you what I do. First of all, I pick Ultra 1. I can use it to hit Sim if he jumps, since he’s so floaty  . I always try to build up meter, and just slowly move him to the corner. You have to have a lot of patience. Also, if you are going to jump over fireballs, empty jumps work quite well, as you’ll be able to block his fierce punch (which a lot of Sims like to do after they see you jump). However, if you have a Sim who like to anti air you with his kicks, I find knee hop stuffs or trades quite well with them. Once you have built up enough meter, you can try to predict him to throw out a limb so you can ex dread kick through it. If you want to play it really safe, you could try to build up enough to FADC you ex dread. Once you’re in there, he is free on wake up for a vortex. HOWEVER, if he is in the corner, DO NOT CROSS HIM UP. Because then you’ll be in the corner, and you’ll have to chase him down all over again. Generally I never cross up Sim, unless I am closer to the corner than he is. When I combo, I always go for the corner carry over damage. Oh, and he is pretty helpless against focus attacks up close, so don’t be afraid to throw a few quick ones to get a counter hit crumple. And if you notice you are losing a lot of health while you try to get in, don’t get frustrated! If you get flustered, you’re going to end up hanging yourself by going reckless. Keep a cool head and relax. Take time to think, and realize your opponent’s patterns. Um, I think that’s all I can tell you :stuck_out_tongue: I hope it helps!

Thanks man  , this helped a lot! Already seeing a difference in the matchup.
