Max would actually use a st.mp, but it’s situational. This is the string I always use after an fadc, but I end in light sobat for a setup.
Holy crap that information just opened my mind so much to Blanka Balls, thank you Veserius!
I’m liking all of this information, I’ve been needing to get my damages and stun percent knowledge down and just haven’t had the time on my hands lately. Just had a little time spare to quickly look through the forums and post to keep things active.
I’m about to go test for some counter-hit and cl.mk specifics, I’ll check back in later.
Is LK Sobat really that good, at all? I can’t see there being set-ups worth spending two bars for off of a soft knockdown. Meh, I just find flat out damage better in almost all cases, or sacrificing my damage for a hard knockdown, I don’t like that weird inbetween,
You spend two bars for some extra damage, not for the same setup that you can get with no bars. The damage difference between ending an fadc combo with hk.sobat and lk.sobat is really not that big. I’ll take the soft knockdown from lk.sobat every time (unless it’s a kill situation).
Also, with delayed wakeup, I honestly don’t value hard knockdowns very much over soft, if at all. You can do setups that work if they tech a soft knockdown, and if they don’t tech, you can just back off or go for a meaty. If you do a hard knockdown setup and they slow rise, it can fuck you pretty bad sometimes. At least that’s been my experience, so I’m all for the soft knockdown.
You can go for a lot of different stuff off a light sobat assuming they tech the knockdown. If they don’t tech it’s not as clear cut, but most people will tech it. If they do, you can:
-Instantly do a lowest possible knee shot. This will whiff. It can bait srks, leads to an empty jump instant low, or empty jump throw.
-Instantly do a slightly higher knee shot. You have to practice the timing but it’s a safe jump vs everything but srks (will hit them if they block and you’ll block any reversal).
-Walk forward j.mk. Again it takes practice but I can make srk type reversals whiff pretty consistently.
These are the three things I usually do off of lk.sobat. But you can also just do meaty normals/slashers and shimmy tactics too. DeeJay can really thrive off a knockdown, whereas hk.sobat leaves you in an awkward position.
Even if they don’t tech the lk.sobat knockdown, I’d still take that position over the one from hk.sobat. You can still do meaties or shimmies or rejump with another early knee shot to bait stuff.
EDIT: just tested some combos in training
knee shot, cl.mk, cr.lp, cr.mp, hk.sobat, fadc, cl.mk, cr.lp, cr.mp EX.sobat is 315 damage
knee shot, cl.mk, cr.lp, cr.mp, hk.sobat, fadc, cl.mk, cr.lp, cr.mp hk.sobat is 313 damage
knee shot, cl.mk, cr.lp, cr.mp, hk.sobat, fadc, cl.mk, cr.lp, cr.mp lk.sobat is 305 damage
So yea I see no reason not to use light for the knockdown.
Oh and because of this, it can make ex sobat punishes unreliable. Ideally you want to wait to get 2 hits, but a proper safeball will actually cause the first hit of ex sobat to whiff and the second to get blocked. The work around to this is that you wait, then do a kara ex sobat(b, f, Hk~MK) and it will always punish with both hits 100% of the time.
This thread is old. Like super status old. I haven’t been feeling this game that much to find the energy to post. We do have more updated combo threads
Ah so you’re still around, good. Thought one of the best had got up and left outta nowhere as well.
Can’t blame you for inactivity, I think there are only 9/10 of us around anyways.
I’ll go check that thread out, st.mp seems to be used a lot in the combos though, isn’t that standing opponents only?
meh the thread got revived I’m just gonna roll with it.
Anyway, I just saw pie sci on a stream do a sobat fadc, cl.mk, cl.mk, cr.mp sobat against bison. So this combo is possible. I am going to try to test it out tonight and see which cast members it works on.
Nice, cl.mk, cl.mk, cr.mp is serious damage. Good find with the LK Sobat ender.
Before yall test things out. Check both “maximizing damage” threads. Sobat FADC cl.mk, cl.mk, cr.mp/far st.mp is character, stand/crouch and space specific.
nice just what I was looking for.
Outside of that the cl.mk, cr.lp, cr.mp combo is probably doable on nearly if not the entire cast and the second best combo to maximize damage.
Slightly more damage still would be cl MK, cl LK, st MP xx H Sobat. I actually find this link not terrible, even if it still is a one framer.
Yeah, it’s not bad so long as you remember who it doesn’t work on. Agreed. No real difference in timing.
Cl.mk, cl.mk works off of FADC and jump in, yeah. You can’t just walk point blank. I don’t know why. You are too far away to connect the cr.mp on shotos and probably most of the other cast, most you can get is a cr.lk in my experience. Disappointing in some regards, but cl.mk, cl.mk, cl.lk xx LK Sobat is not bad. If you’re in the corner you could probably EX Slasher and then tag another cr.lk on afterwards, but I’m not sure at that point.
Yeah, EX Sobat to me is not a combo ender. It’s a situational tool. I suppose getting the damage of HK Sobat along with the knockdown of LK Sobat and some good corner carry might be worth the meter, but I think it is better spent elsewhere.
The link for the level 2 focus crumple after MK Sobat is pretty tight, I have trouble hitting it consistently, but then again my execution is not on point.
EX Sobat as a combo ender mid-screen gives a ton of pushout to reestablish zoning, it’s not actually that bad if you want them out of your face for a while.
Shutup Froztey. >:|
No one said ex sobat is the go to combo finisher all the time, if you are down on life you don’t want your opponent on the other side of the screen. If you can get a good lead and reset spacing against some characters it’s the smart thing to do.
Man, you just keep bodied over and over again and this isn’t even my main, sucks bro. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I actually tend to use it vs. any characters that are scary when close that don’t have great mobility options, Sakura/Cody/Abel. I even buffer it vs. grapplers to get them away from me. It’s a good use of bar if you just want that specific character out of your hair for the match.
