Decision 2008: The Presidential Election Thread

well when i say keeping war as a second option, it ultimately should always fall second cause there really are just 2 options. Talks (with or without other countries support) and if those dont work you can impose trade embargoes, etc, but in my opinion that just makes a country hate us more, which will eventually result to some type of war either now or the long run.

As for the nuclear option, i honestly do not believe another bomb would be dropped unless the situation really called for it. Chances of that happening are extremely low.

One thing for sure though, i will be voting and seems that i will be sticking to the republican party. The dems need to get their shit together.

Well as you already know trade embargoes and sanctions never work - the sanctions that continue today on Cuba for example are just ridiculous, and in the end it only hurts the civilian population because the ruling class then seizes most of the assets the country has.

We should just trade with countries or hold actual talks(with no stupid pre-conditions) if there are concerns, but there should be no hypocrisy. We can’t invent new advanced next generation nuclear weapons and then go ahead and threaten other countries who barely have any nuclear power. Most of it the crap I hear from nearly all of the republican and some of the democratic candidates is that Iran is somehow a threat to Israel when its more the other way around. Neutrality would go a long way in repairing our relationships with most of the world.

Oh man is anyone watching Tucker live? That one dude just called out Pat Buchanan for being a supremacist, it was so great. Pat and Tucker were trying to pull the ol’ well if blacks can have their groups why can’t whites, and the other guy was like whites DO! Whites are not discriminated in this country, sorry Pat. Then Pat cried something about equality and the other dude was like, NO you Want supremacy like the white supremacist you’ve always been.

Oh it was so great seeing that bigot called out on live TV

I’d pay to see it. I can’t stand that republican hack buchanan. He is another delusional kool aid drinker who thinks Reagan did no wrong. I always wonder if people like buchanan ever heard of a little event known as IRAN CONTRA… guess not

I’ll vote in the Texas Republican Caucus for Ron Paul. That said, he’d get shot faster than Barack even if he did get elected.

ya but he’d never get elected…lol

That doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t try to be the change I want to see in society. If every positive change that could benefit America in every conceivable way would just never happen I would never get out of bed.

As far as I see it, our nation is fucked up. Our news sources aren’t legitimate anymore. You don’t hear any fair discourse. It’s pretty obvious that we’re getting brainwashed left right and center. The only people that are front line candidates are the people who can get press. Oh, and what does it take to get press? Part of that is subscribing to one of two political parties and trying to fit in as if you’re just yin or yang. Daoism, a religion based off of bipartisanship, recognized that any facets of nature were made up of many dualities, not just one.

It’s bullshit. If you’re not going to get angry about it I’ll just have to get angrier for you.

Pick and choose your battles wisely.

I don’t know of it, and it might be a ‘perfect’ news source. However, Fair.org isn’t what America is listening to.

If voting in a caucus is choosing a battle foolishly then I don’t know what kind of shenanigans you get into.

I like how eventhough almost everyone hates Ron and that he is much more likely to get shot than Obama if he wins, that your opinion of him does not change.

With all this Ron hate going around you would think he’s the devil or something.

Also, it’s funny how most who are going around saying most Ron supporters are just random fans are just random fans of Obama.

It’s like watching a troll war, except the outcome actually matters.

What should make me think he’s the devil? Political mudslinging? I find it repugnant that people are still open to having their minds changed by that garbage. No matter what someone has done, if they’re going up for election, there’s mud to be slung at them.

Ron Paul supports what I feel is best for this country and has the moral fiber to carry through with what he says. I’ll vote for him as long as he’s campaigning.

I’m not sure. Sometimes, there are fans, and then there are fans. You can say what you will about Ron Paul supporters, but they are fucking dedicated and they’ve gotten his name out there almost by word of mouth alone. You can’t really say that for the more mainstream candidates. It’s more like comparing fans of Motorhead to fans of Nickelback.

That’s debatable.

Everything, all views about the war, economy, how bad Bush did, the bad reputation of the Republicans, etc. is ALL going to be moot by the time of the general election.

The Republicans have the magic weapon that will win it for them: gay marriage with perhaps the stem cell assist.

All the Republican candidate has to do is say “fuck gay marriage, it’s not in the bible! oh yeah, blow up all stem cell research facilities too” and boom, the election is won, where he’ll win all the red states once again from last time, because even if the war has been outrageous, even if people have disapproved of Bush, there’s no way in hell they’ll will vote in support of gay marriage, the biggest artocity in the history of the universe, and they’ll come out and vote in droves against gay marriage and vote Republican, that reason being a huge part of it, outweighing whatever good the Democrat might bring.

Once the gay marriage and stem cell thing is brought up, the red states in 2004 will win it for the Republicans again.

Ron paul already won this election,
case closed.

hahha just kidding, i doubt the US will ever get a decent president…its just not their style. THe majority of the population is fairly slow mentally…example: they re-elected Bush.

so have fun with Hilary
rofl

They didnt re-elect bush, just the democrat options of the time were not any better.

You’d fit in perfectly if that were the case. It wouldn’t take long for you to take the title of the quissential “American”.

rudy guiliani is mr. garrison from south park.

Ron Paul types, by which I mean people who are outside of what the people in power (be it in government, corporations, media, etc) approve of, still don’t have a chance of getting elected. The mainstream media is still too important a gatekeeper for Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich (a man whose views line up the best with the American public, as some blind “where do you stand on X issue” polls have shown), and people like them to gain serious traction; most people don’t know who they are, don’t know what they stand for, and even if they have heard of them, they don’t think there’s any chance for their success. That’s not an unreasonable position for them to take considering that the media almost never reports on them except to belittle them, and when good things happen (like Paul getting second in Nevada), they hardly even mention it. At the same time, the mainstream media has favorites (for whatever reasons) that they like to play up, and even if those favorites do poorly, like Giuliani and Thompson have, the media will continue acting as if they’re viable candidates.

As our generation gets older and more influential and the coming generation grows up, the internet will take on more importance, and that means the old media gatekeepers will become less important. When that happens, I think our democracy will get stronger and I think we’ll end up choosing candidates who better reflect our views.

But that’s no reason not to support Ron Paul right now, if you like any of his views. I’m no economic libertarian, but I am a strong civil libertarian, and I’ve donated twice to his campaign.

nice try,

keep reaching for the stars american! :woot:
