[Dec 15, 2011] Thursday Night CLASH! South Jersey UMvC3 Tournament (Egg Harbor Township, NJ)

Introduction to CLASH

Hey what’s up everyone, my name is vVv ChiboSempai. I’m a long time member of the Smash Community, and working my way into the UMvC3 scene. I’m a top tournament organizer for Smash, and have hosted more events than anyone else in the community, and hosted the first national for Brawl - and I’m here with my first UMvC3 series of events!

Thursday Night CLASH will be a series of events that will take place on a weekly or biweekly basis (based on attendance, the frequency of events may change in the future) on Thursday nights at the Red Fusion Gaming Center in the Shore Mall in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. These events will be featuring Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, but may add Super Street Fighter 4 AE in the future if there is enough interest for it.

Every now and then (like every 6-8 weeks?) I plan on holding larger Saturday events with more prize money, that will be seeded from the Thursday events.

All events will be streamed on http://www.twitch.tv/vvv_chibosempai
The first event might be in standard definition unfortunately, but I so have HD recording equipment ordered and should have it ready in time for the 2nd event with another HD player cam, etc - all the bells and whistles you see in quality streams.

When Is It?

The first event will be on Thursday, December 15th, 2011. I aim aiming for these to be either weekly or biweekly. After the event is other check back here on SRK and I will announce the date of the next one. Event starts at 8:00pm EST, please be on time.

To enter Thursday Night CLASH you pay a venue fee and a entry fee. The venue goes to paying for the cost of running the tournament, renting the venue, etc. All money collected from entry fees go 100% right back to the winners.

Venue Fee - $5
Entry Fee - $10

In the future as the series gets larger I hope to work with sponsors to get more prizes for the winners, perhaps some raffles for players in attendance and on the stream, the works. For now though, know that the entry money goes right back to the winners in the following percentage split:

1st Place - 60%
2nd Place - 30%
3rd Place - 10%

This means that say we get 25 entrants for an event, that gives a $250 prize pot (25 x 10). This means first place will win $150 (60%), 2nd place will win $75 (30%), and 3rd place will win $25 (10%).

What System?

CLASH Tournaments will be running on Xbox 360. If you bring a system for a setup discount (detailed below), make sure it is an Xbox 360 and 360 version of the game, and make sure the controller you bring to use is compatible with the Xbox 360.

Time and Tournament Operation

The event starts at 8:00pm, please be on time. It’s ok if you show up a little early at say 7:45pm, and you may practice on any set ups that are up before the event begins. Signups will start at 8:00pm and end by 8:15pm, where the bracket will then be created and started.

Brackets will be a Double Elimination style, so no one is out of the tournament until they lose twice. The first event (and maybe the next couple after that) will be seeded by location/groups, so you don’t have to play the friends you’re traveling here with in the earliest rounds if possible. There will be some rough considerations for skill seeding as well for those with major accomplishments. After that, seeding will be based off of your past CLASH tournament performance. I may be doing an ELO Ranking System for all CLASH tournament attendees, so your progress can be tracked at each event for your own information and seeding.

Rules will be your standard UMvC3 rules found at most tournaments. Winner can’t change anything, loser can. Stages are random unless otherwise agreed on. All sets are best of 3 except for Winners, Losers, and Grand Finals are best of 5.

There will be a stream for every event at http://www.twitch.tv/vvv_chibosempai

We may need a couple extra systems and games to run the event smoothly beyond what we have already. I’m going to talk to the local GameStop located next to the store about borrowing some equipment in exchange for advertising, but if that falls through we’ll probably need a couple extra systems and games. I’ll say about a week before the event here how many more I would want if possible (say, 3 extra systems and games), in which case the first 3 people (in this case, or more than 3 people if more than 3 are needed) who bring a system and game will have their venue fee waived and only have to pay the $10 entry fee, not the venue fee.

So What Do You Need To Bring?

You need to bring the money in cash to enter the event ($15 in total, unless you have a setup discount which would make it $10), your own controller to play on (Xbox 360), all your friends that love Marvel (more people makes for a better tournament!), and BRING THE HYPE!

To keep up to date with Thursday Night CLASH and other CLASH Tournaments, keep up to date with the event pages and threads here on SRK, along with my:

I have a CLASH Tournaments website made for past Smash events, but need to work on it to add Marvel to the site, and will spread the link to everyone once it is ready.

it’s on the 15, not the 1st

also I like to make it out to this as well

If you guys could hit either yes or maybe on the RSVP at the top of the page that would be awesome so it helps keep track of who is coming.
Just stopped by the venue again today to check out everything, we’ve got at least 9 TV/Monitors we can use to play on there which is fine, including 2 big screen TV’s that are like 42" or so in size, and then 7 PC monitor size that are around 23" or so. We’ve got 3 systems and am in contact with the GameStop convenient located next to the place about borrowing some equipment for the tournament. Once I know what they can provide us, I’ll update for how many people can receive discounts by bringing systems and games.

Whipped up a flyer for the event:

Sweet, I have a few questions. Will there be mics for commentary and will there be any sets up for casuals? If so can I bring my copy of kof 13? I’m not expecting a discount out of it I would just Like for the community to pick it up

There will be at least one mic for commentary (my other headset broke a couple days ago <_<) so if I can’t find another one, if two people want to commentate at the same time they’ll have to share the same mic unfortunately for the first event. I’ll try to find another one, I know I have one somewhere around my place. But yea, there will def be commentary.

We’re def gonna have at least a couple extra monitors that have HDMI. What system are you bringing it for? If it’s PS3 and you bring the system and game that’s fine. If it’s for 360, you can have it set up towards the beginning and end of the tournament when all the tournament matches can’t use all of the TVs at the same time anyway (like only 4 possible matches could be played at a time when few entrants are left, then we can turn a 360 setup into KOF).

This is like 30 minutes away from me so maybe.

I’m looking to improve my game so I’ll most likely stop in barring any problems.

I’m looking to bring in a ton of local attendance, which should be easy to get a lot of hype seeing how new of a game it is with mass appeal. I spent the last 2 days handing out tons of fliers to various stores and bulletin boards in a wide radius, and am even doing radio advertising this weekend since I was able to get a great deal on it.

I had a radio spot produced for this Thursday Night CLASH event and will be airing on the radio this weekend. Here is the spot on YouTube here:

Get Hyped!

dang I only have a ps3 joystick, this sucks. I still show up away.

Heard the ad for this on WKKW 97.9, can’t wait to play!!

CLASH Tournaments website is now online: http://www.clashtournaments.com

Ill be there… you should run a 2012 tournament too! :))))) Also, if you need any help, im down!

I will likely be adding 2012 in the future once this kicks off the ground. I’m more familiar with Marvel, and the 2012 patch coming just 2 days before this tournament, would rather not super rush it. Perhaps for the 2nd or 3rd.

Ok everyone, I have the details for setups and discounts. I wrote them up on the clashtournaments.com website. I don’t think I put it in the OP here on SRK, if I didn’t I will soon.

We need some people to bring systems and games. We have some ourselves, but the more setups the better. Bring an Xbox 360 and copy of UMvC3 for the tournament and your venue fee will be waived provided that we use it. I’ll be accepting the first 5 systems or so that come in. Also, we only have a certain amount of monitors/TVs. I believe 7 HDMI only and 2 that have component and HDMI. Try to make sure your 360 has an HDMI port. Most do, just the very old models don’t. I will have a few spare HDMI cables with me in case you don’t have one, otherwise bring your component. I’ll also keep a couple old tube TVs in my car as a just in case if we run out of HD cables, but would prefer not to use them, since we have 9 HD TVs anyway to use.

I’m there with a set up.

Less than 3 days away!

I’ll be running stream tests late tomorrow night and Wednesday and will share them with all of you.

Testing out my stream now, got full HD going.

Will be adding titles and all that jazz tomorrow or later after testing. Just getting the hardware going.

Here’s a preview of the stream that will be running tomorrow:

A couple tweaks have already been made. The backgrounds in all views but the full screen one will be dark grey and the videos/logos will have black borders (this was supposed to be like this already but I messed up on the transparency). Also, commentary will be added of course. I didn’t have my headset handy when I made this.

Remember, for everyone who can’t make it you can watch the stream at www.clashstream.com or twitch.tv/vvv_chibosempai
For those of you who can make it, be there no later than 8pm EST. Get all the details at www.clashtournaments.com

xbox? really? its like you dont want people to come, enjoy a 6 man tourney?
