Death Cargo

Get hype for bad fighting games <3

Death Cargo special feature: throws

first time i’ve heard of this game. looks like it’s catering to serial killers with those “deathrips”. those are fucking gross. the background looks like it belongs in the ALIENS movies and the sprites kinda blend in too much with the bg. it would be cool though to see this actually come out. it would probably inspire more indie devs into actually finishing their games.

On second thought, if they make the other mechanics solid, it could actually be good and unique and have an interesting style of gameplay.

Do you really believe in what you typing?

Yes, after thinking it over a lot, I honestly do. I’m at least willing to give it a chance if the system they’re using is anything like what I am trying to envision.

Fuck this, even MK (which has a block button) allowed for cross ups (cross up throws in MK).

The developers’ command of the English language is obviously less than perfect. Without even having to delve into any oddities in grammar or diction, their consistent use of the charming “trows” alternate spelling springs gleefully to mind.

It would also seem that they’re keeping some secrets and surprises close to their chests for now. Their mentions of upcoming features are brief and vague.

Now… I, too, am leaning towards the assumption that Death Cargo is going to be about as much fun as having an accidental poopfart on the bus ride to high school, but I think that it’s worthwhile to point out just how little we know about this game so far. I haven’t actually tried out the demo, but from what I’ve gathered here it was less what you’d call “early and barebones” and more what you might describe as “so incredibly fxxxing far from being anywhere near complete.”

Just for the fun of playing Devil’s advocate, I am going to go through the disaster list, providing a more positive interpretation for each bulleted point. I’m a “Devil’s” advocate because this game is about practicing occult magic and worshipping false prophets.

I know some of you mentioned that jumping felt “floaty” in the demo. If you can’t get over your opponent with floaty jumps then that IS a pretty bizarre combination.

But maybe that’s exactly what they were talking about, and exactly what they’ve changed. Perhaps they felt like huge moon-leaps (which have become a convention of the 2D genre) were too cartoonish in the context of the rest of their game’s aesthetic design. Maybe the game is only going to have KOF-style short hops, similar in height to that of a normal human jump in real life.

They did say that they’ve deliberately added some things to “make up” for this perceived (and rightly so) retraction of depth as compared to traditional fighting games.

This “single side” idea suggests that nobody will have cross-ups or back throws or pass-through moves; there certainly have been enjoyable characters in other fighting games that have not had some of these things.

Just as a point of comparison, look at this (never completed) fan-made game.

As far as I can tell, it appears to have no jumping or crossing-over at all, and I think it looks really neat. Maybe it would have ended up terrible and boring and one-dimensional (pun may or may not be intended), but maybe it would have ended up unique and clever and compelling and fun. We have no way of knowing now, though… and that’s exactly where we current stand with Death Cargo.

It is quite possible that this is a purely graphical addition that they’ve implemented to help preserve or increase some element of the visual fluidity of the game, with no effect on the gameplay whatsoever.

It may even be some type of advanced canceling technique around which they intend that high-level play will be formed. Lots of cool fighting games have practically revolved around a weird cancel, whether it was deliberately included or not.

Did the demo not have any throws in it? If so, it could have created a lot of confusion and they probably felt that an official clarification was in order to remedy this serious misunderstanding.

If not, maybe they’ve just had a lot of people asking/telling them to NOT put throws in this game, and this is their way of shutting those people up. (It’s totally funny that it’s being announced as a “feature,” though.)

The TW bar is your super (and EX) gauge. This sounds a lot to me like it could be some kind of alpha counter.

What if this game features extremely brutal offense, and then you get a parry that costs meter? So that you can spend bar on a guess that could reverse the fight’s momentum. I know people’s tastes tend to be divided on things like this but there is no fighting game that absolutely all of us like absolutely everything about.

This could easily be a pushblock or burst mechanic. Do note that both of those mechanics are “equal opportunity” tools, in that they can also be used to force an opponent into the corner, or to keep him there. We like at least some of the games that have included these things, don’t we?

Wouldn’t it be interesting if you have a “shove” as a command normal on your move list, that does no damage but yields a lot of extra pushback if it hits? You are opting to forego the chance of to directly harm your opponent to try and make a gain in positioning. This makes for a nice pairing with how the game is apparently going to feature no switching of sides.

I know this all sounds sort of strange and decidedly non-classical, but it could turn out to be innovative and incredible.

It seems like they may be trying to express how their game will be easy to pick up and start learning, and that pro and casual players alike will have fun with it. In terms of standard community-minded marketing lip service, this is par for the course.

So anyway, what I’m championing here is that we don’t KNOW yet whether this game sucks or not.

But let’s be real here, it probably will.

Single side. New style. Uh huh.

Yeah, this game is doomed.

I just wanted to say <3 hahaha

Demo had no throws and everybody was all like WHERES THE THROWS so that’s what that was about.

I basically agree with your post, otherwise. Tbh it surprises me that people are so hung up on the crossing-over, like cross-up jump kicks are something a fighting game JUST HAS TO HAVE on principle alone, and there aren’t characters or even entire games where they’re not particularly significant… I don’t see any reason why this new innovative ONE-SIDE FIGHTING ™ absolutely couldn’t work, in fact it might make things interesting, in some ways, by virtue of being unable to switch positions with your opponent with respect to the corner: you gotta fight for your space, and if you lose it, there’s no easy way to get it back.

I mean, there are certainly reasons to believe that the game will suck, I just don’t see that as being a significant one. There’s always the off-chance it will be pretty good on accident: such things have happened.

Anyway, even if the game is a competitive wreck, they seem to be putting a lot of focus on the single-player mode (including beat-em-up sequences, apparently), and I know a lot of you guys think you’re above all that but single player can be fun too.

My biggest objection to the game remains the fact that I don’t think they can ever get it to work mechanically or get it finished. If the game actually comes out somehow, all bets are off.

Anyway, they’ve got a forum now, and they’re taking questions… enter at your own risk, I guess: http://necrostorm.forumfree.it/

Hahah, they all make me feel kind of sick. :wasted:

Good lawd, what in fuck’s name…

Unfortunately, his eyes burst out of his head when he saw this.

You have to play the demo after this post.

HAHAHAHA.

Demo was supposed to be out today, and they kept saying “We resolved copyright issue, no more delays. Trust us!”

here’s their message today:

HAHAHAHAHA. See you guys when the demo is released in 2015.

Actually it was supposed to be out yesterday, so much for that though. Oh they also admitted to releasing the demo to “true italian fans” who gave input on that movie they’re making. This wouldn’t seem so stupid if they showed fucking footage and shit of other characters besides Plasma.

My theory (so obvious I feel embarrassed trying to take credit): there is no completed (or almost-completed) demo and said “true Italian fans” do not exist.

This demo was originally originally supposed to be out weeks ago, and the only hold-up, they claimed, was copyright issues, which have since been solved.

They have nothing working, and it’s probably beginning to sink in that all of the programming issues that they thought were easily-solvable and just barely out-of-reach are much more difficult to deal with than they suspected.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some more “gameplay footage” eventually, but I wouldn’t trust it as actually running in realtime.

LOL@ people still thinking this shit will be good, or even out in their life-time.

http://necrostorm.forumfree.it/

Yep the Demo of this shit is finally out.

When did they add those last two characters? Amaz-1-ng and SQUALO
