The action looks on point, but WTF co-op in my horror? Oh I forgot Visceral is owned by EA:bluu: Well most of us including myself doubted DS2 when it looked like they completely forgot about the horror elements and it turned out to be much scarier than 1. I’m excited to see how the ice planet will be used for scares and who knows maybe co-op won’t be that bad, this isn’t Capcom. DS3 on an ice planet, and Lost Planet3 is focusing on horror…developers are thirsty for ideas:rofl:

Edit: Release date is 2/2013.

Anyways fortunately DS3 will not have universal ammo: http://www.fmvmagazine.com/?p=9888

Also DS3…now with weapon crafting!

And new trailer!

And Gamescom demo, the way the cut scene seamlessly transitions into game play is beautiful:

Why do they keep doing co-op in survival horror games? It makes it less scary when you have another human helping you.

this is exactly what was wrong with re5. when I played with someone I just ran around killing everything thats it. was mostly boring. just wanted to get it over with it.

while re4 held my interest and I beat the game multiple times.

Hey, I missed ds2…the developers said you’d be in a normal place that would slowly become taken over by necromorphs and you’d get to see it, walking around in a normal civilization that increasingly become more and more infested, devolving into total chaos, then an out and out necromorph infestation. Did they deliver on that front?

Gayest thread title of all time.

This game is going to have drop in, drop out coop. If you’re playing by yourself, you’ll be by yourself and it should be mostly the same experience as the other Dead Space games.

Yes coop is confirmed to be optional! Although Popoustis said their is some content and dialogue exclusive to coop this is awesome news.

Go play 2 but only late at night in the dark with the volume way up if possible, if you liked 1 you’ll love 2 it improves on it in every way and is one of the very best games I’ve ever played. Anyways I thought I was the only one who remembered that the gradual mutation of the space station was a big selling point in interviews for them. Unfortunately they don’t deliver on that promise as most of the damage is done before the game starts however, throughout the game you’re fed a decent amount of information that ties what happened before and during the infestation to Issac’s current involvement.

DS2 actually has a pretty in-depth and compelling plot especially compared to DS1 which was just respectable for how many horror cliches it combined and still not resulting in a corny generic story.

Good news: In the latest bombcast Jeff Gurstmann said he wasn’t happy with being shown pure action at E3 and the guy told him “it’s hard to demo horror so that’s why we showed an action sequence”. So I think it’s safe to say that DS3 won’t turn into a generic action game I’m sure it will be just as horror focused as the others

I’m excited for this. I didn’t really like the second one all that much but what it did, it did better than the first. Especially Zero G segments. Maybe story is big for me in survival horrors and I just didn’t enjoy the one for DS2. Still a solid game though.

^ It was the opposite for me. DS1 story worked as a junkyard dog of a script, sloppily gluing together every horror cliche and trope known to man with some elbow grease to form something enjoyable but familiar. DS2 however, was so much more well paced, dynamic, and the plot was a lot more engaging on a personal level which I think was the intent. The last 2 hours and final cut scenes sent shivers down my fucking spine not just because it was creepy but mostly because it was so well wrapped together and was a very surprising yet fitting end Isaac’s journey. It’s also to the writers credit they managed to put such a large emphasis on one person’s story while simultaneously giving it the necessary context to fit into the larger world of Dead Space and not feel like a stand alone product. I’m a huuuuuuge fan of Dead Space lore, really the only franchise I care about following into other media besides Mass Effect. I’ll stop sucking Visceral’s dick here but DS2 is probably the best example I can think of to showcase how video game development being affected by the film industry can breed positive results.

2ND POST UPDATED AWWWW RIGHT!

Not a typical FPS guy, only this, and Bioshock have appealed to me to far IP wise, and I would be willing to try Battlefield 3 since I hear the gameplay is miles ahead of Cock of Duty

Noob question, this game is supposed to resemble Alien in space, for worse or less, correct? I mean in terms of monsters/aliens in space, lots of darkness and tension correct?

I’m obviously not looking for official Aliens.

This is a 3rd person shooter, not an FPS. And DS oozes atmosphere. It’s the only game I had to turn the light back on for.

3rd one looks really meh to me tho.

Ah ok, over the shoulder = 3rd person. Got it.

I’m excited for this game but I’m a dead space whore so whatever. I’ll play co-op if there are trophies/achievements but you can still play single player ALONE so I don’t see the big deal with DS3.

Very rarely in gaming do interviewers put developers on on blast but that’s exactly what this fan boy does, also it’s just as horror focused as ever.

Also it’s obviously an inflated number but still DS3 much longer than the others is always a good thing.

Definately gonna play this series, played a majority of 1(I don’t think I beat it, I was going to a different University and things got sorta hazy) and none of two. Pretty sure Family Video still has it in town, I just gotta find some time…

I’m simply saying what I have seen didn;t impress me. I wont be like I am in the DmC topic and go into really deep detail cuz I don’t know this series as well as DMC. I’ve only played around 3/4ths of the first one.

S I’m simply leaving it at what i’ve seen didn;t really grab but, and looked rather meh, but I could easily be wrong. m

No one is denying that most of the footage shown namely the E3 demo was pretty much all action which isn’t a bad thing just kind of generic because action film style shooting sequences are a dime a dozen nowadays and as fun as it is that’s not what makes Dead Space unique. This combined with the (justified) apprehension most people have about EA has lead many people to believe DS3 is going to forgo it’s horror roots in favor of more RE4-5 style action to generate more sales. But every journalist who’s played it so far like this guy have said it’s just as scary as the other 2 and that fans have nothing to worry about and the same concern hovered over DS2’s release and despite having a lot more Uncharted style action it was much scarier than 1.

I can’t find the link but someone from visceral said that it’s hard to make horror looks impressive on the E3 stage so that’s why they chose to show a more action packed segment.

[url=http://www.vg247.com/2012/08/13/dead-space-3-new-preview-goes-back-to-horror-basics/This is a great read, it’s related to Dead Space but really touches on one of the main flaws in gaming journalism.

Apologies for the off-topic bump.

I’ve had DS 2 for a while and didn’t finish, until yesterday. Not to much of a fan of the last chapter, but the rest of the game is greatness. I want to go through hardcore mode now, but I’ll probably do a new game + to get accustomed to the spawns. What guns are the best for hardcore? I just watched a vanilla speedrun of hardcore mode, and the guy was using the og cutter, mine gun, and the sniper rifle (and the force gun for the last segments). Getting some of the extra laying around looks like it could lead to certain death in that difficulty…

Fuck those creepy ass, multi-segmented, lanky ass dudes. That room you’re in when you reach the government sector got the fuck out of me.:shake: I used one of my nodes to get in the door to get the extra goodies, and that mother fucker is just standing there waiting for me when I exited. :shake: I think I shot everything but it, at first. So glad they don’t show up much in this game… lol

I’m not to fond of the enemies with guns shit in DS 3, but they were heading that direction. I’m just glad they’re keeping the horror aspect together, unlike a certain series. Can’t wait.

The first game in this franchise was definitely the scariest, and I’m fairly certain it will remain that way even after this game’s release. I’m not really trying to be one of those people that are all “the game is gonna suck because it wont be nearly as scary”, but it is kind of dissapointing to see them turning the franchise into a “big action, big cinematic” kind of game. Granted, Dead Space 2 was amazing and I loved it, but what made me love this franchise in the beggining was the fact that it had me scared throughout the entire game to the point of where I would sometimes only play in 30 minute increments because the stress was too much.

THAT’S what ultimately made me excited for Dead Space 2. I was so excited to feel that kind of tension and atmosphere again, but I quickly learned while playing through for the first time that it was nowhere near the same. So I really hope this game is more about the scares than the action sequences.
