Jann Lee looking bad ass as always
and im likeing bass’s new luchador costume.
Nice to see Jann Lee again. I guess with this stage revealed Lisa is next.
I’m guessing Helena will be like the last to be revealed or something. Just my luck.
So we only have 1 new character in this game so far? I’m not counter the 2 from VF as new since they are only guests and will not be in future games(possibly.)
Only 1 new character, and with the over used Amnesiac trope as well, is a bit of a let down. I want an exciting new character. I have no idea what fighting style is not used yet, but I would love to see someone exciting, cool, out of the ordinary. Maybe an old woman who can change to a younger form mid fight to gain different moves. That is not that farfetched for this universe.
From the rumors, it will be a total of 2 New characters: Mila and Rig.
And Who is Mila?
That’s if your character is a ninja or related to DOATEC, everybody else story is rather pointless.
I’m disappointed in there being no character customization, TN would rather spend all their time and resources making their female characters fight half naked in 8 different costumes than give equal attention to the rest of the cast. I was atleast hoping you could swap costumes between characters (not cross dress).
Jann Lee looks great! Just need to see him in action. That pose reminds me of Raoh from Fist of The North Star
I hope they is a costume block function, I’m not gay but I really don’t want to fight against a Christie dressed in a bondage costume :wtf:
Yeah. I admit you are correct in the story department. I wish they did have the non ninja’s be important. I mean, Christie is just an Assassin really, tied to other characters by who she has killed. We know nothing else about her.
So you want it more how Tekken does it? Tekken and Soul Caliber are the leaders in character customization. More companies should follow their style.
Christie in a bondage costume… where did you see this?
He means DOA4 Costume#4…that S&M one that is not all that bad…because other then her default in DOA4, he rest of her outfits were bland at the time…
I’m looking forward to Pai and Brad Wong.
Ah that one. I always saw that as her stripper outfit. I preferred her default DoA4 as well

How can you not like that… I find this sexier then her in a bikini myself.
No one knows… yet.
It’s not that I want e.g Jann Lee to have an important role in the main story surrounding DOATEC, I just don’t want another ending where he plays a trumpet or punches through a tree. It just makes arcade mode feel like a complete waste of time. It’s also funny how there are no in-game references to the fact these characters are actually in a martial arts tournament. :wtf:
Regarding character customization - It’s fun making spoof characters from your favourite shows but SC’s customization is way over the top. I’ve not seen Tekken’s, I’ll try to check out on youtube or something later.
Costume swap or accessory swap would have made a very interesting addition, and since you are using costumes/items from costumes that TN designed for the character it has far less chance of being abused. E.g Ayane’s bow on Lei Fang, or Bass’s shade’s on Bayman, Leon’s scar on Jann Lee or Bass’s biker boots etc etc
The more I think about that statement the more I really think it’s just a lame excuse.
TN - “Character have personalities like you and me”
eg Christie, one of the world’s must deadly assassin’s by day, by night a rock chick who’s into death metal and s&m
How do a couple of female ninjas brought up in a clan learning the killing arts have the personalities of playboy bunnies???
What about me the gamer, what about my personality? There’s a reason why we are drawn to certain characters.
You can’t help but laugh, what are they smoking over there??
I prefer her DOA5 Default…but it’s w/e. Costumes are whatever in DOA since they lack a character customization option, so your going to have to deal with whatever TN makes for said characters and so help you god if your playing a mirror that bastard don’t pick your costume first lolz…ahh the general problem with that…hahah
In Tekken 6 you could change entire outfits for the whole cast. Honestly I kept them in their normal ones, but i still thought it was well made. Tekken tag 2 looks to have a great costume selection as well.
Yeah, I noticed that only a handful of character endings even mattered. I mean, Jack has the most insane, have nothing to do with the plot, endings ever.
The only ninja characters that have actual Ninja personalities are Hayate and Ryu. Ayane sometimes acts like one, and Kasumi… she’s more like she is pretending to be a ninja. That is not to say Ninja’s can’t not be cold blooded killers, but she does not act like she was raised by ninjas at all.
I like her current one too, but I can’t help but fell that gave her a bra just because they thought it would be classier. If she wanted something that actually would help her fight, she wouldn’t be wearing a lace frilly bra.
Besides… I see Christie as a girl that always goes commando…
Because TN is still making fighting games in the same formula as they did in the mid 90’s in regards to story telling.
A character can be just like you and me, I don’t see how that stops characters like the ones in VF(Jacky is a racecar driver, Kage works at Sega, Vanessa is a Security Guard). Having a character be “normal” makes them seem more relate-able to certain people, it doesn’t always have to be something super extraordinary but I get what you mean, if it’s too down to earth then it gets boring…real fast, Thats apart of the fascination with Soul Calibur because those characters live in the 16th century for the most part…
But I think thats the difference between how characters were in the 80’s and early 90’s to the ones now, or how they evolved since then…from those with little to no personality, almost being 1 dimensional, to those who can be seen as fleshed out…how I know fighting games still get the short end of the sick in this one(outside of MK and anything made by ARC systems). Here is the thing, with DOA, for whatever reason, they seem that they wont break that habit of having the Ninja the main characters and pretty much hogging all the screen time form the rest of the cast(except say guest or new characters) but still even then TN is fairly predictable…their track record proves this.
TN need to approach this like a director would making a movie, character’s need back stories, audience needs to understand the character’s purpose or at least have it revealed. Game just seems like they have no actual idea of what the plot is themselves until they start making the next game, hence why the ends are so short and ambiguous.
Back when I used to play SC, I loved the story, it was epic, nobody felt like they lacked a story (I remember when they “accidentally” killed off Maxi I still enjoyed it.
TN is predictable, and that’s been so worrying me ever since they announced DOA5 lol.
What I find disturbing are the female character’s all look about 16 in the game. At least now they look more adult, but even so I really do not understand the need of such costumes in a fighting game.
Man, GVN is going to be so much fun. I can’t wait. Lol.
Well yes and no, they shouldn’t do it like a movie because video games are not movies…the narritive should be explained through the gameplay(harder to execute in a fighting game then say a RPG) but still has to happen. The reason Capcom fighters during the mid-late 90’s had good stories(well DarkStalkers had a legit one) was due to character interaction, something that not many fighters do to this day outside of KOFXIII(story/arcade only) and Soul Calibur,(Tekken to a lesser extent). This is something DOA needs beyond any Liner Story Mode or 62 second ending CG.
You felt you knew the character because the way they interacted with those around them, and made other characters more interesting by default. What would make DOA5 better in the narrative department would be to have character specific interludes and cinemas(including Versus), because DOA is a fighting game first, what any better way to flesh out a character then to do it during the fight with special intro’s, in fight dialog, and win quotes.
Its just the famitsu magazine screenshot(meaning it might not just be 1 character or it could be because they want to highlight the tag mode such as tag power blows). They gonna probably show another trailer with Bass/Tina + Jann Lee/Lei Fang fighting and then at the end another “new” character shows up is my guess
To be fair Kasumi and Ayane i believe were 16 in japanese version(explains why the NA versions have unknown) with Hitomi barely 18, while the rest were in there early-mid twenties but then again the female models had that same “doll” look so they all looked disturbingly the same.
Yeah those alternative outfits due try to fit their personalities looking back (Kasumi with “innocent” sailor school girl, Ayane with the more mature “class president” uniform, Hitomi with the modern clothing, Jann Lee wearing a Bouncer outfit, Helena in opera outfit, Bass in Viking outfit, Tina as the raunchy cowgirl, Lei Fang having glasses with her traditional outfits, kokoro with geisha, Eliot with his skinny jeans and hoodie (LOL), Brad Wong dressed as whatever as long as he has his drink on him, Gen Fu in perverted clothing, Ein being shirtless wearing broken chain restraints (Fan-service or symbolic?xd), and others that I’m too bothered to list)
You some what misunderstood, I agree the story needs to be told through gameplay. I’m very much against the one liner character interactions. I would love to see something done with the cutscenes similar to Dead Fantasy but with some non quicktime interactivity
I hope TN aren’t using CGI cutscenes in DOA5.
