If they remove reversals during hitstun, they’ll have created a game that casual and hardcore fighting game fans alike can enjoy. Do they know that, or just not care? It’s messed up that otherwise decent fighters, because of their programmers lack of savvy in the fighting genre, almost always have some overpowered scrub element. Doa: hitstun reversals (forget adding a shorter active window, it should not BE there). Current-era Naruto fighters: KNJ.

Maybe…but I say eliminating reversals during hit-stun would be a damn good start to getting it out of casual/scrub territory.

Pre-DOA4, there were stuns that had a large delay in them before a player could hold out of the critical stun. It should again be noted that hitstuns were not breakable with a defensive hold, critical stuns are what you’re referring to.

There were frame traps that were created in the DOA2 and DOA3 engines due to (1) lack of ability to defensive hold out of hitstun, and (2) focusing on critical stuns that the stunned couldn’t hold out of immediately. #2 lead to more natural combos, especially in DOA3 as many moves created knock-back and environmental positioning was a key factor in its gameplay: Being hit into the wall at close range caused the attacker to have a free attack without worry of a hold coming out.

There are some of these situations and frame traps left in DOA4, but unfortunately it’s not enough to counter-balance the amount of frequency they allow you to hold out of a critical state.

I hope so too, but I also don’t feel confident that the system changes would be applied to the demo. There’s a lot of things they may change from demo release to game release.

Speaking of which, you guys really need to go write a guide of sorts about holds and the common misconceptions about them.

So based on what I’ve read, it’s basically this small bunch of guys (including uber-scrub Xino) who’re holding the game back by actually defending how ass backwards and unrewarding the game became thanks to how strong the counter system became in later games and at the same time, saying that the opinion of the general FGC doesn’t matter. Off course, this is simply my interpretation of the situation, so don’t take my word for it.
