DC Comics Thread

For DC stuff, I’ve just been reading TPBs as of late. Finished Kingdom Come over the weekend. Next up is All-Star Superman. Figure I’ll finally see what everyone is talking about.

How’s Superman/Batman going? I enjoyed the first 6 issues Loeb & McGuiness did. I see Kurt Busiek is now the writter of the book and the curret Superman titles. Dude is one of my fav writers. Which reminds me, I need to pick up Superman: Secret Identity sometime.

Why did Liefeld give Captain America that ugly symbol on his head, instead of, I dunno, going with like, six decades of established continuity, and drawing the damn “A”?

He’s Captain Fucking America, not Captain Eagle Head.

Secret Identity is very good, if you like more personal, character-driven stories. The artwork is also very impressive and offbeat.

read a MCP Wolverine tale that Liefeld did the cover for…ever noticed how all of his male faces look like Cable, no matter how young/old? His Cannonball has more wrinkles than Clint Eastwood

wow. that cover scares me

Superman/Batman has been pretty weak. I recommend against wasting your money on it. Mindless comics like that are the posterchild of why people download illegally. But I don’t know. I guess if you liked the first arc, you’ll probably like the rest of it. I thought the first arc was crap, and the stuff after it was garbage as well. Loeb is not a good writer when Tim Sale isn’t his artist.

The current arc is the best the series has been so far - Alan Burnett (one of the Dini/Timm cartoon writers) is writing and Dustin Nguyen is drawing.

Just get Secret Identity, because that will set the bar for every other Superman story you read. It’s Busiek writing at his best (in other words, he avoids the Claremontesque stylings of his Avengers run) and the Stuart Immonen art is extremely lavish. You can tell he put a lot of effort into drawing and coloring it, not to mention thinking out all of his layouts.

DC books I read last week:

Batman - Mystery solved, now on to Ra’s!

JLA - Loved the story, hell it started with an image I’ve been wanting to see for a long time. Batman in a straight jacket. I’ve been saying he’s a lunatic for years! Like others have mentioned, the artwork was a little off to me. Not bad or anything, it seemed a little inconsistent. Sometimes it takes an artist a few issues to get in the groove of things so we’ll see.

Teen Titans - Already mentioned it before but it was hella great. Go McKeever!

Wonder Woman Annual - Finally Heinberg’s arc ends. Every DCU hero showed up, even Nightwing even though he was just a small dot. His name was mentioned in the book though when Donna Troy and Wonder Girl were compared to Batman’s Nightwing and Tim Drake Robin so it’s all to the good! Anyway, a very good arc by Heinberg and I’m looking forward to Gale’s WW run.

Teen Titans Go! - Hella great! They revealed which Robin it was in the cartoon in case there was any doubt! Batman appears in the issue too!

Teen Titans Go!

Spoiler

Robin is revealed to be Dick Grayson! I’m not sure if Batman featured in the comic was the Batman of Batman TAS or from The Batman or another Batman specific to the Teen Titans universe because they had an extreme close up of his face and then showed him from behind, we couldn’t see the costume to be able to distinguish. So just to play it safe I read the story three times, once with Kevin Conroy’s voice in my head, again with his The Batman voice and one more time with Adam West’s voice just for fun ha ha! They showed Robin’s mother and father, I am not sure if they took on their ‘The Batman’ appearance because I don’t remember what they looked like on the show even though I thiiink they looked more or less the same. They most def did not resemble their Batman TAS appearance. Eh I’m thinking way too much about this.

Picked up GLC, and Tales of the Sinestro Corps Presents: Cyborg Superman

the shit has hit the fan.

^ Cool! I was just about to go and pick myself a copy.

so how broken is the joker…im reading a wiki on darkseid and apparently darkseid tried to omega beam his ass and missed.

jesus…two humans mess up the omega beam. wtf?

It’s like Deathstroke beating up the JLA. (IF, in fact, that actually happened.) It’s not about being broken. 'round these parts, we just call that ALL SKILL, BABY.

man imma find that friggen titans tradeback one of these days…damn my house having comics littered all over the place.

To my suprise I picked up All Star Batman and Robin again. Goddamn Jim Lee’s pencils, EVERY TIME I THINK I’M OUT THEY PULL ME BACK IN! Story was hilarious! Batman as an eight year old boy who never grew up after his parents were gunned down is really starting to grow on me lol! And hooray Robin actually did something. Eh, I guess I may be in this book for the long haul, who’d of thunk it. THAT GODDAMN FRANK MILLER lol! :looney:

You’re damn right I want a comic on my fridge, I’ve even been thinking of collecting crappy first issue comics to decorate my entire fridge with, a shrine if you will.

I think that first issue of Capt. America is what made Marvel decide to kill him off. Thanks a whole fucking lot Liefeld.

Damn if I don’t want Sinestro Corps. I can’t make regular comic pit stops and when I do, most of the comic issues I want are already gone. I’m sure a TPB will jump on in soon.

Sano I think this thread needs to pull a Crises and rewrite itself with all the confusion going on.

I can’t wait for the first ASBAR Trade, I so want that shit. (I didn’t want ASBAR at first, because I was going through a “Fuck Frank Miller” phase, but now that I realize just how fucking over the top and corny it is, I wish I had jumped on board).

I have the first issue, but didn’t keep pulling it.

I hope they keep the fold-out Batcave for the trade, it’d be a shame if they didn’t.

sano doesn’t know what he’s doing

good article with grant morrison, tim kring, mignola, etc http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=12056

I’ll admit that it sort of gets on my nerves when Tim Kring is credited as the “creator” of Heroes. It’s a decent show, but most of the basic ideas aren’t his.

Wait…you READ comics? I thought you were bluffing at one point.

That panel write-up was a good read. I’ve had Lethem’s Fortress of Solitude for almost two years now but I still haven’t gotten around to reading it. I should start it sometime soon. That first issue of Omega the Unknown looks pretty nice, too. Probably get that as a TRADE, BABY.

I still don’t like Heroes, though.
