DC Comics Thread

Child of Dreams is underrated. It’s got a pretty far-fetched premise (random people start turning into Batman’s classic villains) but it’s executed with enough style to be a fun romp. It’s sort of like Hush - Batman runs the gauntlet of his major rogues - but with better art and slightly better writing. It’s not like the greatest thing ever, but it’s a decent read if you can find it for a cheap price.

Way better than 52.

I’m not a fan of this sort of thing either, the whole “cavalcade of villains” approach. Comic book writers have a hard enough time fitting a halfway intelligent plot into the story when there’s only one antagonist. Combat should be an outgrowth of the story, not the point of the story in itself.

But, eh. Whatever. As you all know, I am an irredeemable sourpuss who regards everything with hate. I am going to go roll around in my pile of pre-Crisis Superman TPBs and pray to the soul of Mort Weisinger.

In a good way, or a bad way?

52 is great in that it focuses on some of the lesser characters, and tells some exciting fun shit.

but it sucks in that it doesn’t really go anywhere.

Sigged.

lol.

hey, sometimes paint chips can give you magic powers, yo.

I guess that makes about as much sense as getting superpowers from radiation.

Totally forgot I had this but I was going through my old comics and I found the Heroes Reborn Captain America #1 written by Jeph Loeb and signed by Rob Liefeld back in '96. It was one of those deals where Robbie L came in to the comic shop and signed a bunch of comics the day before and they were selling signed copies by him the day after in the store for the regular price.

The point? I will put this comic on my fridge and take a picture of it since Zephy has failed to ‘Batman up’ and put a signed comic of X-Force #1 on his fridge and take a picture of it like he said he would if no one won the 52 Pool and has totally welched out. Don’t say I never took a bullet for you Zephyranthes, even though you will still continue to abuse whatever comics I like and don’t like on this forum like nothing ever happened.

Give me a few days and the picture will be up.

the first two volumes of 52 are very solid. the extras are great too. I was impressed.

I appreciate that, sano.

Green Arrow

Spoiler

Winick and DC killed him again? In the Black Canary/Green Arrow Wedding Special? How could anyone imagine that would be a good read? DC’s getting mighty lame.

Hey it’s all good! I may tease but your posts here are always good to read and stuff, funny a lot of the time and it makes my job fun so anything I can do for an online friend hey why not. I honestly had no idea I had this… um… “gem” in my collection otherwise I would of put it up sooner. Dang the artwork inside horrible… Liefeld’s actually improved over the years from being horrible to terrible if you can call that an improvement believe it or not. MY EYES! :wasted:

My man, I will definitely buy you a couple of beers when we get to heaven.

Also, good job on trying to play off the fact that you bought a Rob Liefeld comic by acting like it didn’t belong in your collection. When it obviously has been framed above your living room mantle along with 13 issues of Wolverine: Origins.

If that were even the least bit true I would have to fly up and slap Sano several times, then make him read King Hyperion arcs until dehydration set in.

OT but what exactly do you dislike about Wolverine Origins? Adam Warlock likes Origins and he likes Fables too, go fig I would of thought you guys would be on the same wave length or something. How much of Origins have you read? It drastically improves after the first five or so issues.

Oh I got the first issue of every Heroes Reborn, Captain American and Avengers I never got passed the first issue. I got the first few Heroes Reborn Fantastic Four issues signed by Jim Lee but I got bored with the series after a while. Course the Captain America belongs in my collection, it’s a signed comic. The day an outraged comic book fan finally up and murders Liefeld or Loeb I will have some money on my hands.

Good thing it’s not true and just why would you take the word of someone who says he is going to do something like, I dunno hang X-Force #1 on his fridge and then not do it? And of course I’m the one that gets verbally abused and threatened, pity us poor mods.

One time, I was at the comic book store. I was sifting through some stuff on the shelf. Then, right as I was putting an issue of Supreme back on the shelf after leafing through it in disgust, I accidentally tripped over an amazingly lifelike plastic simulation of Thor’s hammer. I stumbled against the counter, upon which the comic landed. Furthermore, money flew out of my pockets and into the cashier’s hands, and in a truly odd twist of fate, it happened to be the exact price of the Supreme issue.

Before I knew it, I had purchased the comic, all because of Thor’s friggin’ hammer. It was the weirdest accidental purchasing of a Rob Liefeld comic ever. Or maybe that’s redundant. Has anybody actually ever bought a Rob Liefeld comic on purpose?

It was an accident. I swear, and I will deny any accusations to the contrary up and down.

Hey if he read that stuff as well I’d do the same, probably worse for being a closet Liefeld fan.

On a topic of DC I’m digging the Sinestro War. That, New Avengers and Thor are the only things I’m reading currently.

sano, I’ve been meaning to tell you something. No, actually, I’ve been saving this one for a long time.

Your grammar is reprehensible. REPREHENSIBLE, I say. That’s what happens when you spend so much of your time reading rags written by Daniel Way or Jeph Loeb. Go read something good for a change and maybe you can make a post where you don’t write, “I would of thought” or something like that.

I recommend FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABLES!!!1

Yar tha’s sum gud gramer rite thar. :looney:

You started off your post by saying sano. If it is the first word, it is supposed to start with a capital letter. Don’t want to write my name with a capital letter because that’s how the deep the hate is for whatever reason, you can start off with a different word. I’m sure there’s a grammar god out there you need to pay tribute to now.

Seriously man do you have anything to contribute to this thread other than trading insults with me? Go read some Superman comics not written by Morrison and come back, you’ll have lots of stuff to talk about.

Back on topic, 52 last week was pretty funny. Minor super heroines drinking alcohol at Black Canary’s Bachlorette party lol!

In my entire collection of comics, I’m 100% certain, that I only have ONE PAGE of Liefeld art.

and that’s the piece he did for the Sam Loeb tribute issue of Batman/Superman.

he drew Robin wrong (and with the exact same build as Superboy).

because he’s Liefeld, and he fucking sucks.

Long interview with Heinberg, posted here because he talks a lot about DC in the beginning. Talks about the Wonder Woman annual that wraps up his arc, a little about the upcoming Young Avengers mini even though he won’t be among the writers, oh well…
