DC Comics Thread

Bought All-Star Superman, was fucking fantastic people, a great piece of work that has hyped me to no end to finally read the comic. Everything just worked so well, and DC is totally kicking Marvel’s ass on the animated film front.

Lex was probably my favorite part, I was in awe at his characterization, it just felt so damn right for once. He’s a great villain, and Superman is a great hero, but you rarely see them utilized so well.

So yes a glowing review, I come in without reading All-Star so maybe some of you have issues with it but for me and my friend it was enjoyable.

I liked the All-Star Superman animated movie as well. The comic is better by leaps and bounds but that has more to do with them having 12 issues as opposed to 80 minutes. A lot of stuff is missing and sure I wish were some things in there but they managed to boil everything down to one cohesive story. It does not replace reading the comic but it is rather enjoyable I thought.

Oh and if anyone is thinking about renting it or picking it up absolutely go for the Blu-Ray or 2 disc edition for the special features. You get to hear Morrison talk on two different specials and he even does commentary on the movie. You get to see Morrison draw too. He’s actually a really good artist! :wow:

In the commentary Morrison said he enjoyed the animated movie and it’s his third favorite superhero movie. The other two are Unbreakable and Disney’s Hercules. Yep Disney’s Hercules. Morrison’s awesome.

Morrison has good taste, I really want him to write more Superman work. I loved what he did with him in JLA, and all I hear is good things about All-Star. Really hard to find people who “get” Superman. But considering he has like ALL the Bat titles under his guidance he can’t realistically do that.

Dwayne McDuffie died yesterday? Wow, just… wow. RIP.

Yeah…someone posted it on GD.
Quite shocking and Random.

Wonder what caused it, I was never a big fan of his work personally, but I respected what he did and the goals he set out to accomplish. Rest In Peace sir.

A part of me wants to hate this because of how I really enjoyed Green Lantern: First Flight…but then there is Nathan Fillon.

Sinestro Corps have a short in it.

Seems alright, I’ll pick it up.

All Star Supes was damn good & it’s a shame that it’s DMcDuff’s last written work.I always buy the 2-disc of every DC Animated feature.I think Batman Year One should’ve come out 1st before Green Lantern:Emerald Knights, which will be interesting. You do know Rowdy Roddy Piper is one of the voices in GL? I wonder what the next one will be after Batman:Year One?

Batman Inc. and Batman And Robin were dope this week.

Tomasi got to the level of Cornell weird in B&R. The letter pages are back and one of them in B&R explained Grayson’s roster of villains well. Because of his circus background he’s getting a lot of strange circus like weirdos. Never gave much thought to it but that makes a lot of sense.

It seems to have had an effect on Gotham City too. Since Morrison started B&R I notice that Gotham is looking more like Las Vegas with all of the bright flashy lights everywhere.

What issue is Batman, Inc. on?

I swear, if they fuck up one more comic for me I am canceling and going online. I was missing my Spider-Man issues (STILL), Secret Avengers, Heroes for Hire, Brightest Day, multiple Batman titles, etc.

On top of this they stuck shit in there they thought I would like. For example, issue 20 of Streets of Gotham in the middle of some Hush arc. Btw, he spoiled the issue for me and thought because I hadn’t read the previous 19 it’d still be alright for me to get.

EDIT: Finally saw the Spectre animated short, OMFG it was the best.

I hope DC does like short volumes, with recurring characters in them. I would like to see more Spectre shorts.

Batman Inc. is only up to issue #3. Joint is so late Quitely might as well be drawing it. Please universe make it so…

Then I am missing an issue, I don’t have #2.

I’ve been reading Superman/Batman/Supergirl lately and I really like it. The art style is so so. Supergirl looks pretty in some pics, but weird in others. WW and BB look hot on every page though. I just got through the part

I miss them Lynda Carter curves…

I thought that was an extremely early April Fool’s.

I don’t see Wonder PG Whore lasting longer than half a season.

Still digging Superman’s Grounded story even without JMS. Last week’s story with Flash was nice. They had a conversation at super-speed and the world seemed to stand still because they were talking so fast ha ha! Nice effect!

Digging the bi-weekly DCU Online Legends book too. Liking how they are using iconic versions of the characters and basically being continuity free, but still keep some stuff like Superman still being married to Lois. It reads like the budget ‘get all your heroes in one book’ JLA should be, but hasn’t been for a long time. Not that this is a budget book since it is bi-weekly, but it is 2.99 at least heh.

Batman Inc. had a bunch of stuff regarding the original Batwoman this week. I have no idea how true any of it is but I take everything Morrison says as fact anyway and if there are differences I just point to the last crisis or whatever. Great read!

Spoiler

Seriously talk about getting getting hit by the worf effect, I can understand if they didn’t want to retell another Starro invasion story but come on, it just makes Starro less of a threat than before.

The Flash-
Was a bit slow IMO, but let’s see how Flashpoint comes out.

Knight & Squire-
OK I have got to know what other books Paul Cornell writes like this it’s really starting to grow on me.

Batman Inc was fantastic though I only read up til #3

JL Generation Lost-
Read up til #21 and I guess we’re nearing the end now right? Enjoyed this book too so far, and I believe they’ll be the new JL team in the near future?

Action Comics-
This comic just keeps on getting more awesome. My only gripes with it were the tie-in with Secret Six, being an extension of #896, and how Larfleeze was drawn. BTW in 897
Batman #896

Spoiler

why did Loisbot push Spalding into the sphere? Was it to turn it white? If that’s the case, seeing how Larfleeze got out of it alive, I guess the same can be said of Spalding. Now who is Mind working for?

Brightest Day-
The end for #17 was really nice =3 …but the later issues? FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

STOP CUTTING OFF AQUAMAN’S HAND, DAMNIT! Seriously, next thing you know it, he’s summoning freaking Cthulhu.

DC Legacies-
You know the way to abridges various major storylines of the past decades into around 20 issues can be really funny what with things going so fast in them, that or not very informative in that if you really want to know what happened, you’ll want to read them yourself. Still seeing that it ended with issue #10 I wonder if they rushed it? A really fun read overall though.

Green Lantern-
OK, yeah I gotta agree with anyone that says that giving Atrocious a family and whatnot is a silly/dumb idea. War of the Green Lanterns is pretty hype but come on

There will be only three? One badass death is enough for me for one year, thank you very much!

Batman and Robin-
Paul Cornell’s story was a bit complicated but I enjoyed this 3-issue story, but the art could’ve been better. Tomasi’s first issue was fun too. Looks like the theme of the book will be a mystery solved within 3 issues, which I don’t mind since they seem to be doing a good job of it so far.

Dug Superman this week. They had a flashback story of young Bruce Wayne meeting up with a younger Clark Kent. Made me wish we had an episode of Smallville with Bruce Wayne showing up. Stupid WB/DC character embargos…

Batman and Robin was dope! I’ve always liked the way Tomasi handled Dick Grayson way back in his Nightwing run but he did some good things with Damian too.

It’s too bad that Judd THE DUD Winick is going to write the next arc of Batman and Robin. How can he even be allowed to touch a book started by Morrison?

Judd’s Dick Grayson SUCKS. Ah I can see it now. In the first issue Jason Todd will beat the crap out of DG within an inch of his life. Then DG will mis-manage Damian and get him captured because we all know from Judd’s Outsiders run that DG is a horrible leader. (?) But don’t worry DG fans! He will beat Jason Todd by finding an error in his tax report! My suggestion is while you read this arc you should picture DG with Charlie Sheen’s voice, because he’ll be “WINNING!” :crybaby:

Dear lord I hope I’m wrong just for the sake of the character’s longevity but I’m not reading the issues in questions to find out either way. The second I opened Judd’s first DG Batman book, he got the crap beat out of him and someone yelled “YOU’RE NOT BATMAN!” Maybe it was a dream or something but geez… How many times can he punk DG? Stuff like that happened all the time during Outsiders. Judd should NEVER be allowed to touch DG. Or any character but that’s another forum post… :wonder:

On the plus side the 6 issue Batman Arkham City comic starts next week that will lead up to next video game! Dini take my B&R money for the next few months please!

So Sano, you want me to report back on you with Judd’s B&R story?
