DBZ: Sparking! / Budokai Tenkaichi

The game has a similar feel to Virtual On and Psychic Force, however, I wouldn’t say it’s identical to either. It is, however, easier to compare Sparking to those games than a traditional fighting game. You play from behind your character, and look “into” the screen for your opponent, instead of just to the right/left of the play area.

Virtual On had a great deal of differences between a first-person shooter. It is a fighting game in that all of your attacks and abilities are with you from the start, and are not littered about the map. However, it does incorporate terrain and a great deal more mobility than 2D or 3D. It allows for long-range fighting, which most 3D games lack. Not to mention the mechs just looked sweet.

Comparing to Halo might be a bit of a stretch…

IGN’s review of DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi is up, and they gave it a good score.

The Video Review is pretty insightful as well. Now I’m even more excited to play the game.

Even though they too have no proof of it? Even if its so easily refutable?
I already stated how constant pokes can be countered (unless you’re poking using Piccolo). Why don’t you stop bitching and try the stuff out yourself? Or are you too lazy to do that, and beg for match vids?

Why don’t you try testing some of this talk for yourself? You also can’t say shit without offering proof…

Rhio2k, I like how illiterate you are. Just because I address one person in paticular, means I’m adressing everybody. Nice idiotic logic you got there.

Then again, how is the game a poke fest? You also don’t have any proof of it. I already proved it wrong with theory, and if you actually tried some of the stuff I mentioned, you would see it yourself. And since there are no match vids at the moment, your position is no better than mine. Talk about B3 being a poke fest and TC spam fest are also nothing but unsubstantiated trash talk. Cute too, isn’t it?

Also Skyler, you’re missing my point entirely. Just because I say match videos aren’t the deciding factor, doesn’t mean they can be completely ignored. Match videos help in showing the game’s depth, but theoretical discussion is just as important.
In addition, I heard about Daigo’s parry in SF3TS. Sure, I would rather see a visual, but how is that linked to depth? Just because visuals are cooler than words does not mean visuals = depth…

And you can’t activate the force field glitch if you’re getting attacked, because you’ll get hit before the taunt even begins. The beginning of the match gives free movement. Who’s to say that #17, 18 or Cell will always start far from their opponents?

Ever heard of something called block stun? I can keep repeating ->PKK- or KKKK- (assuming I’m Goku) on you until you have no ki. Why? Because blockstun from the last K gives me enough time to cancel and go for another ->P before you recover (or K, if I used KKKK-). Does this require proof from a match video? No it doesn’t. It’s common knowledge, and can easily be done.

Since many of you mention I can’t prove B3’s depth without high level match vids, I’ll also say that you can’t prove B3 is nothing but pokefests and TC fests since you also have no access to high level B3 match vids. And I’ll be happy just to leave it at that.

I’ll try to get some vids up, but I can’t tell you that they’ll be highest level gameplay vids

Do the stages play a significant role in strategy?

If so, is it necessary to take a different approach in different stages?

And, are the characters balanced in terms of ki consumption/damage for B2’s and UB’s; and blast ball consumption/usefulness for B1’s?

(I’m haitianhomey on GF) Well, I’ve been contributing to GF’s B1-3 tier lists and I think we know what we are talking about. We may not be experts, but we seems to have found out the majority of the game’s mechanics and mastered them (or at least close to it). And watch your use of the word “they”. Some of the stuff posted on GF I don’t agree with (like Cell>#18), but it doesn’t mean everything there is wrong.

About the tournaments, the only reason why people underrate B1-3 is because it’s a DBZ game. I’m sure that Naruto GNT3 tournaments will stop at some point too.

Anyways, thanks a lot for your advice redarding BT. I’ll probably rent it or play it when one of my friends gets it. I guess I’ll buy SCIII instead.

evilllee, good point on the use of “they”. I apologize. I shouldn’t make such broad generalizations, since I hate when people do it about other games.

As for the game being passed over because it’s a DBZ game, that just isn’t true. Look at SSBM. If there was ever a “kiddy” game that begged to not be taken seriously, it’s that one. However, just with any game that has true hidden depth, it was discovered and it is considered to be a very strategy-oriented game, regardless of the Pokemon, the big hammers, the silly items etc.

With the huge following of DB, it has had a bigger opportunity to take the spotlight. A lot of the hardcore fighting game fans were DB fans long before VF or TK or SC ever even existed. If anyone wants the game to be legitimized, it’s them. That being said, the game simply does not have the depth that only Budo 3 players claim. If it did, it would be enjoying a robust community filled with a ton of big money tournaments, and be respected as a high-level fighting game. Smash Bros took off, GGX took off, even Tobal #2 is recognized as a great. How come it works for every game except DB? It’s definitely not because it’s “DB” related.

Flying… Teleportation… Ki blasts… Most high-level fighting games players tell me that it’s a 3D fighter, and that when they play 3D fighters, they’re looking for a bit of realism.

Also, remember that those tournament games (execept SSBM, which isn’t a fighting game IMO…) do not come from anime. A lot of people have a conception that anime based on games are bad and vice and versa.

On a completely different note, I like your avatar.

Looking at the secrets list offa gamefaqs you gotta fuse certain items with each other or other characters to unlock soem of the characters. Seems cool.

OMG dude, just forget about the whole video and B3 depth thing now. your paraphrasing too many of your excuses over and over and im tiring of reading about it now. if your gonna show some videos, show them plx and if you can beat the force field glitch, then should a video of that too, other than that, plx no more excuses cause its pointless if we keep arguing like this.

okay, now lets talk about some tenkaichi here. is Goku SSJ4 far more powerful than the rest of the cast or do the rest of the cast still have a fighting chance against Goku??

Just saying it’s an anime game and thus won’t get played doesn’t really work. There are tournaments (not huge numbers, but they exist) for Naruto: GNT3. I know a friend of mine who owns the game has a decent number of match videos downloaded for it. What determines whether or not a game is played competitively is the quality…

I see you missed my earlier post.

I see I’ve been owned, my bad.

No you haven’t! Or at least I didn’t mean it…

I just seen a vid on Putfile and it seems like Super17 is just toptier in this game. but i dont know and havent played it yet. im getting it tomorrow

SSBM is a came that IS played competitevly…Anyways…its pretty sick how there are ppl who play this game too…are there any good players? Or have there atleast been tourneys?

There are many good players and there has been many tournaments (aspecially at Japanese animation conventions).

So where could I get some vids…Though there’s like 3 ppl I know of who would actually play this game…it would still be pretty sick if I could get better at the game…

He isn’t like in the anime, is he? I mean…ki attacks DO hurt him now, yes?

Speaking of Super 17, this may be a bit off topic, but how is Dragonball GT? Is it even worth seeing? I have heard quite a few people harsh it, and heard that Toriyama was not involved with it at all…
