DBZ: Sparking! / Budokai Tenkaichi

So can this game be played competitively?

Bump because this is a good friggin’ thread.

Very well Said indeed i dont have tenkaichi yet but i have budoukai 3 and even the people i play against think when fighting and sometimes we even come to a stare down just like in the the series where we just sit and wait fer a min or two before taking off on each other im mean if people are doing like 20 something combos on budoukai 3 then there’s gotta be depth and dont believe me go to gamefaqs.com and check out the combo list. most good fights thrive on a staredown during the match do you guys agree?

This thread needs bumped.

Anyone have any hints on how to beat Super Perfect Cell in the Cell games? I’ve tried a ton of different characters and he just whups on me everytime.

If I could only say one thing about Tenkaichi to describe it to another person, I’d say this;

“Button-mashing can’t win.”

I’d also like to say the below-ground hangar area in the city stage sucks ASS. That little lip you hit your head on and can’t fly out of easily is a trap to avoid.

EDIT: I’m annoyed that some character’s supers won’t connect for a shootout duel; my roommate and I could not get Trunks w/sword and Teen Gohan to shootout for anything. On the flip side though, pellet battles are much more entertaining to deflect and bounce-back in this game. Mixing up regular and large pellets and then moving in and out of range can make for an interesting and playful display. Special animations should have been a little longer, maybe not quite so dramatic as B3, but something close. This controls are tight but take a lot of getting used to since you use all the buttons, but it really stays true to the fight scenes you’d see in the series, like the vids on page 4 or 5. I also appreciate the differences in ‘sensing’ power levels either by scouters or martial arts and being able to hide in the scenery and sneak attack somebody. I don’t see any point to using the free look to stand still & fire pellets without lock on though, considering the crap damage they do. As far as I’ve seen, you can’t fire supers like this which negates any possible use other than making themed vids. Can anyone confirm wether or not you can kamehameha in free look?

Been playing some versus matches with a competent friend and so far I have begun to hate playing against Captain Ginyu. His body change move is always a threat against me when I’m at half or more health when he’s nearlly at no health. Now, I’m not bitching I’m just wondering if this move could help warrant him a spot at the top of the tiers.

I haven’t been able to play vs. human opponents at all(try suggesting to a bunch of college guys to play a fucking Dragon Ball game and see what kind of looks you get) but Ginyu seems really brokenl. I mean, Self Harm requires only one bar to use and it puts you into Max Power mode. At that point it’s just a matter of getting close enough to use Body Swap. It was the only way I was able to beat Super Perfect Cell in the Cell Games.

By the way, how do you master defensive teleporting? The comp uses it all the time but if I try to do it, I get shot.

LOL,my friend and I are both college students so we can imagine what kind of looks you get when you ask them to play Dragon Ball.
Defensive teleporting takes a while to get used to,but I see it somewhat similar to parrying in Third Strike or JD’s in CVS2.The timing window for it isn’t very large or too small.I simply press right or left plus O like 1 or 2 seconds before the attack hits.My friend can do it a lot better than me though,so I still need to practice it as well.Yeah, Ginyu most certainly has a lot going for him with Body Change and Self Harm.

Well, Tenkaichi sucks so much arse, it’s been collecting dust.

Woot! Chou DBZ is being ported to the PS2! Woot!

I have a buddy from Church who really likes this game and if I ever get the chance to play him, I will pwn him for free.

I started playing this game again last night. The enemy was going in for a rush attack but I was able to teleport out and dodge it. I thought you couldn’t use that to avoid a rush attack. It was purely accidental but I did it. I keep learning new things about this game. And I like Goku’s forms better now even though he sucks at gathering ki.

This may sound like a stretch, but I think SS Gogeta is actually stronger than Super Vegito. I pit them both against each other in Very Strong COM vs. COM and Every time, SS Gogeta beat the crap outta Super Vegito without even taking much damage. I kept watching the matches over again and it was the same thing.

I’ve also noticed you can snuff Rush attacks with a melee attack. I’ve only been able to do it on accident though.

I snuff rush attacks with melee attacks 95% of the time if they start off close enough.

I play as Broly. Granted he doesn’t charge up fast, but the fact that he can sit there and take basic punch/ki blasts and still charge up is awesome

BTW, Spirit Bomb like attacks (SSJ Trunks Super, P. Cell, Broly and I think a few others, forgot) have attacks that will actually eat up Final Flash, 100x Bang Kamehameha attacks, etc. Basically, no matter how strong the beam is, these attacks eat it

Plus, I love Broly’s high defense and HP. His reach is great and if you’re good at throw breaking and teleporting ki blasts (assuming you don’t have explosive wave), he’s actually quite good

Seems like a cool thread. I also play Maijin Vegeta because any Big Bang attack seems very hard to dodge

Not sure if anybody knows, but if you throw a few ki blasts then nail your finishing move (either the triangle or the triangle+up, doesn’t matter), it is VERY hard for them to teleport while in the stun. It should say “2-4 combo” while your super starts for you to do it right. Naturally, the AI gets out of it on max hard mode, but whatever:(

Yeah, those ki blast block stuns work well as set ups for a special move attack.Broly is pretty good in close combat because of his defensive and offensive strenght, but he’s quite slow, so dodging his attacks isn’t too dificult if you’re a bit more advanced with your skills. Also, from the matches me and my friend have had his long distance game isn’t very good, since he’s so slow.Trying to catch up to get close enough to your opponent with him is a quite a hassle, since your opponent can keep dashing away from you while using ki blasts against you and using a special move while you’re in block stun. You could dash away from those ki blasts with him,but you’t still at a disadvantage since you can’t get close to use his close combat strenght.

You have to attack at the right time, right before they hit. Kind of like a parry. I love using USSJ Trunks and Super 17. Why? Simple thier my favorite characters in the show :-P. Plus Super 17 starts off with full energy (as do all androids) and can absorb energy shots, so sick. I find Broly kind of cheap/broken because he isnt “stunned” by melee attacks. I duno though.

Is it just me, or is the cpu turning and trying to dragon dash away from me JUST before my high speed/power rush hits them?

Really? That’s never happend to me before. Do they ever get away when they do it? I’ve tried dashing away from rush type attacks and it jsut doesn’t work. Although if you time it right, or you’ve got enough space, you can jump over rush attacks.

Man, this game is sick. This really is a true 3D DBZ fighter. The fact that you can fully take someone’s back in this game is just too good.

Is Broly the only character that can take lite ki attacks and still powerup? That is one seriously good advantage. I know he isn’t the only brick wall fighter but he seems to be the most broken one.

Don’t forget about fighters that have the After Image and Instant Transmission techniques. IMO these moves are invuable. AI is like a free teleport dodge and IT, well. Picture this. Perfect Cell is about to shoot a Super Kamehameha at you. As he fires off the beam, IT and you’re right behind him and his back is facing you. P Cell=PWNED!!

Broly, Bojack, USSJ Trunks, Great Ape, Great Ape Vegeta. There might be more

If I’m feeling okay after a trip to the dental surgeon, I’ll record a few dash attacks. They try to fire up the old dd RIGHT before the attack hits. A Dragon Dash is the only explanation I have for them to have their aura blazing and facing away from me, cuz we’re both locked onto each other.

all you have to do is dragon dash right before it hits you… Your invincable to other ones right at the start up, so its pretty easy to do… And of course if you have after image on when you do it right you glitch the game.
