DBZ Budokai Pro

Me! I have some!

1- The capsule system in B3 was very interesting, I think it added variety and strategy to the game. Are capsules allowed in Budokai tournaments and if not, why?

2- Is four life bars the standard tournament format or what? why not seven bars?

3- According to Budokai players, if a new game was released what kind of changes or features would be necessary to make it more appealing to the competitive community?

  1. The only capsules allowed are the capsules for the Death Moves such as Kamehameha and Ultimates. Item capsules or support capsules are not allowed. If we were to play Budokai 3 a Breakthrough capsule is acceptable because it doesn’t change the stats of the character such as their natural ATK, DEF and Ki Regen. We also allow custom control setups because some like myself prefer Guard as shoulder buttons for guard cancel.

  2. 4 bars is the standard for Budokai 3 because a fight between evenly skilled/experienced players with 7 bars can last like up to 5 minutes in some cases. Although for Infinite World because of the fatigue we play with 5 bars a lot of the time because it makes it so that battles last longer and they don’t get decided on who gets fatigued first.

  3. As far as the combo system goes, no changes need be made except full implementation of Ki cancelling which is only found in SBAR and Burst Limit, not Budokai 3 and Infinite World which adds to new combo possibilities. Infinite World’s fatigue would need to get fixed to mimic that of Burst Limit’s which follows the same principle but 1. Doesn’t fill up as fast and 2. it doesn’t keep the opponent in a constant state of fatigue while being juggled so no chance to fall to ground and recover from fatigue. And last but not least like noted by a user here more approach options need to be implemented asides from throwing ki blasts which is kinda hard considering thats the standard for most DBZ games.

Transform is also a capsule thats allowed. Nice info so far.

I had a bunch of shit type out U i’m not going to get into it anymore. have fun with DB fighters, personally I don’t think the engine that is being used for the game is proper for this sort of genre but thats just imo.

yep, forgot to include that. Lol funny, you also live in Ky

and that’s what Tenkaichi and Raging Blast games are for, DBZ genre. But just because something doesn’t fit a genre doesn’t automatically make it bad.

No one said that! I am simple saying the DBZ deserves to be a doujin game. But what eve’s

don’t be so serious, it’s just a game

Budokai Tenkaichi 2 for PS2 is the best in my opinion

Well that’s just too bad. Without capsules characters with no transformations are left with no tools to deal with that cheap ass move.

Transformations are basically instant, cost-free, guard breaking moves that raises the character’s ATK and baseline AND can also be used in juggles. Transformations have no downside at all. Meter is required to transform but you actually KEEP the meter, you don’t waste it lol. How dumb is that. The Yakon capsule is the only thing in the game that counters transformations, and it’s banned? Meh.

Now imagine something like that in SF4. What if Ryu could transform into Evil Ryu anytime during the match, without wasting meter, break the opponents guard while doing it, increase his damage output AND juggle the opponent? The SF4 community would go nuts and probably BAN Ryu outright. But in Budokai games apparently that shit is perfectly fine, lol.

Also I think item/support/equipment capsules add a whole new level to the game (and they’re fun). I understand why capsules like viral heart disease should be banned, but most of them should be allowed IMO.

Yes but if we are to allow that then all characters fall under the same rule and the ones with transformations are going to have the advantage anyways because is their natural ability. Unless the game eliminated all lower tier characters and only kept the mid to top tier characters there will always be the problem of which character is better than who.

However, as you can tell by the tier list Pikkon and Yamcha for example in Infinite World are top tier and they don’t have any transformations and Pikkon only has a baseline of 4 bars where as Janemba and Syn Shenron (7 after transform to Omega) at a lower tier have 6. So yeah, transforms do help but that alone doesn’t decide which characters are top tier and which are not. Bardock in Budokai 3 only has 3 ki baseline and no transforms and is the character with the highest damage potential.

In Budokai it mostly comes down to overall damage potential, combo potential, anti TC tech the character has and attack priority, probably followed by tranforms and baseline ki.

^ Budokai 3 Bardock human fights from Saiyanjin2 showing his damage potential with Heat Phalanx and anti TC potential.

…its DBZ

I forgot to ask something, in B3 and IW tournaments, are the fusion characters banned?

No, you can use fusion capsule if you like, they inherit the combos of the character you used to do the fusion. So if you have Vegeta and fuse into Gogeta, Gogeta’s will have his combos plus Vegeta’s added so more combo possibilities but it only lasts a few seconds of course.

The best fusion is Vegito for obviously it lasts all battle, but has a 25% failure rate if you fail to pick the right button when you perform it etc

Not to say I disagree, but we have dumb threads that surpass even the infinite border of the noob forums acceptance along with idiots like TNB, people that provide misleading/incorrect answers like omfg and just plain laziness all around.

I’d say its a rather small problem in the grand scheme of what occurs here way too often.

This is very interesting…I’ve always wanted to see footage of some high-level DBZ fighter ever since playing Budokai 3. I’m hoping for another Budokai for the ps3.

That would be my dream come true. I would be uploading videos of high level gameplay all day if that were to happen.

^ this is what a Pro vs Pro Budokai level fight looks like. Enjoy.

Is there any type of zoning game? I’ve watched various fights and it seems that fights all happen up close and involve going for the infinite the majority of the time.

it involves gaining ki advantage, thats what infinites are mainly used for, hardly ever damage since the damage cap and buffering stops at 34 hits and every hit after that does 1 point of damage.

That was a great set, very entertaining. I’ll be watching more of this stuff from your channel and this person’s channel as well. If ever a new Budokai is released for next gen and there’s still depth to it, rest assured I’ll check it out.
