I believe that’s a close match video. Me and my friend both used the characters with the fastest neutral P links. Since both characters are about the same they were close and we mostly fought in a battle of who could gain the most ki and get the upper hand. You can see final score on top on the last fight
LOl, i was thinking of the people that are so bad at games that the moment they see an infinite they automatically assume you suck or something or that you can’t win w/o them w/o even knowing the game. These noob players which I have encountered so many of them do not realize even after I having explained in many videos that a combo in Budokai has a damage cap at 34 hits so infinites can’t kill u and the damage multipliers decrease as they get closer to a 34 hit combo at which point each hit starts doing 1 point of damage per hit (1000 damage = 1 health bar, so 1000 hits = 1000 damage counting after 34 hits) XD I actually had a user comment that he could do a combo for 1 hour straight 1 point of damage per hit w/o messing up to kill 1 person with full health (7000 damage is 7 bars which is full health, thats at about a 6000 hit combo after damage caps kick in) and that he could do it w/o getting tired of messing up once lol. Considering that’s horrendous to hear I’m quite sure there is a time limit on the fight lol. Now you guys can see the stupidity I have to deal with.
Since infinites got a damage cap at 34 hits, and by 25 hits they are doing very little damage and most ground combos end and start an airborne juggle/infinite sequence after 20 hits infinites are just the same as ground combos and are there just to gain ki/energy bck fast.
This game is awesome but I only play it against the CPU and there’s no mind games at all, he does combos for fullscreen randomly and does random heavy smash so all I have to do is punish his mistakes. I’ve never really played against a good player so can’t tell how the game is played at a pro level.
Well only thing i can say is be aggressive. The player that stays on the offensive from the start is most likely to win cause he causes the opponent to defend, while losing health, gaining fatigue and wasting their ki energy while you gain more per every hit you connect.
As for me, I only teleport out of opponent’s attack if they don’t mess up the first few connections cause I can expect a full combo. And always try to have more ki energy than opp even after you teleport first if on defense. Is a little weird, but w/o noticing it every single little decision in the battle can decide a win or loss.
I liked the Tenkaichi(Sparking it was called in japan i think) games because they had some original game play and interesting game mechanics. I didn’t like the budokai series though. Was nothing more then a basic fighter with simplistic game play.
Tenkaichi was original. Seemed to be a well done fighter, but without a competitive scene there was no way for me to really see the potential in the game. Whooping my friends and the CPU got old after awhile. If there’s one that has good online, or one coming out soon with good online, i’ll probably give it another try.
But with games like Street fighter, marvel vs capcom, and blazblue being available, why play Budokai? I love DBZ with a passion, but budokai is crap compared to the popular games in the that genre.
Tenkaichi is one of the worst fighters I have ever played. The new Spike game DB Raging Blast 2 is a way bigger improvement in gameplay over the original BT games, but still pales in comparison to 2d or 2.5d fighters
Played Budokai parts 1,2 and 3 for years. Well passed the button mashing level.
I never said Tenkaichi was some complex master piece, I said i liked that it was orginal. It actually felt like DBZ. That was my main draw to it. It was actualy a DBZ game, and not a poorly done SF rip off with DBZ characters.
Budokai was just lame in comparison to the quality games that were spin offs of SF. If you like budokai more then SF, thats fine, buts there’s a reason budokai is a small niche game and SF is the most successful fighting game series of all time. The fighting game community will never take the Budokai series seriously, it just doesn’t have what it takes. Not that Tenkaichi has what it takes either. I enjoyed it, but it was garbage compared to SF in terms of mechanics and quality as well. Nothing wrong with liking games that werent that good, but you gotta be realistic.
who said Budokai was a rip off of SF? lol, I will point out one fact that throws that whole statement away.
-Dimps developed Budokai 3 in 2004
-Dimps later developed the fighting engine for SF4 in 2008
Please, get those facts straight. Budokai was the original fighting guard cancel engine, and both Budokai and the new SF games were developed by the same company with similar fighting engines. It just wasn’t taken seriously because no one took the time to learn how to fight properly (the game never really taught you how). And saying that you actually played past the button mashing level but still calling Tenkaichi 2 and 3 better games kinda makes me think twice of how well you actually played or knew how to play past that button mashing level. Wonder if you can at least guard cancel a KKKK- combo out of bounce in 19 hits in Budokai 3.
But like you said, nothing wrong with liking games that weren’ good, but you gotta be realistic.
Stick to facts in discussions, not just your personal preferences.
How is Budokai like Street Fighter? Please explain me that, Budokai is a 3D fighting game first, the gameplay is totally different, throws don’t have nearly as much priorities, it doesn’t favor turtling and defensive play, and it’s much faster paced.
Crazy I wasn’t even talking about SF, I think a SF version of DBZ wouldn’t make sense since you need air dashing and a system that just wouldn’t fit with this sort of anime. How ever I think Capcom would do a better job with the dbz franchise than Dimps does.
I’ve played all the dbz games from dragon ball on the nes to dragon ball on the wii. Budikai is garbo and it isn’t competitively playable, if it was, then where is all the tournaments? Dragon ball z is one of the dopiest anime’s out there, however I don’t think the fighter’s they’ve come out with are all that great. I’ve ran tournaments for a number of years, never once has a fighting game been requested. I’ve been to anime conventions in Edmonton, Van and toronto and never seen people playing that shit, they’ve played that dumb naruto game for a bit but then smash bros gets playrd and its ggpo for the rest of the day.
I think if they made a good DBZ game that was something like a BB or GG game it’d be better. I’m not even a hardcore doujin player but I think a game like that is more suited for Dragon ball than this dumb shit.
Although I think the games have gotten better since Final bout, it still is meh…
I’m sorry sir but I had to stop there. Do you even know how to play Budokai at a competitive level? Seriously I am dumbstruck.
Budokai is one of the most competitive fighters I have ever played in my whole life, and I have played almost every single fighting game out since the original Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and Killer Instinct.
The company that developed SF4 Dimps was the one that developed the engine for Budokai 3, Infinite World and Shin Budokai Another Road and those games are beyond belief competitive… Tournaments don’t define competition, if anything the lack of any of these best Budokai titles having decent online gameplay (or any if at all) is the cause and reason for why they have rarely been seen played as a tournament. SBAR being the only one of the big 3 that has online and it is super laggy. There’s a tournament at the ACEN convention in Chicago for Budokai every year.
Just go ahead and keep playing BB and GG if that’s what you are good at, but don’t damage the name of something you clearly don’t know how to play at a competitive level with blasphemies. When you can guard cancel a KKKK- out of bounce in 19 hits then you can say you know how to play but I kinda doubt you know how to make that happen.
And Capcom hired Dimps to make SF4 for them. Can’t get more ironic than this, lol.
Anyway, I think the lack of move variety and playstyle variety are the strongest reasons DBZ fighters are not well accepted by the community. In Budokai games for instance, every character can throw a fucking fireball and dash after it to quickly close distance. There’s no zoning or turtling for any character, everybody is rushdown. Everybody can throw beams. Everybody has a “slam opponent on the ground and unleash a rain of fireballs” move. Everybody has similar combos performed the same way…you get the picture. DBZ games (and anime games in general) tend to be too generic in order to please the fans of the show/manga.
Sure there’s depth in Budokai, you have to learn the cancel system (btw the juggles in Budokai look awful, and people still complain about Tekken) and how to manage ki…but I think there’s not much beyond that, really. No matter what character you pick, your goals and playstyle are exactly the same. I think a DBZ game with a smaller roster and more move/playstyle variety would be better accepted by fighting game fans, but it will never happen because the fanboys would bitch and whine and cry “this is not DBZ!!!”.
Sometimes I wonder how crazy a DBZ game made by AKS would be, considering what they did with Hokuto No Ken. Probably broken beyond belief.
yeah, I agree on approaches (combos no, they might look funny to you but they take A LOT of skill and practice while being very varied), the game doesn’t have a lot of zoning options since ki blast and teleporting are mostly used. It mainly depends on the character really, although very few some characters like Goku with his elbow slam, Dabura with his spear reach or Piccolo with his arm stretch in B3 is what makes them top tiers against other good characters like Gohan because of their zoning.
sE1DT9Q04yY]YouTube - DBZ Infinite World: Dabura [me] vs Goku [losplayaz01] 6 Fights [720p
So in a sense, Dabura being the character with the most zoning in IW automatically makes him top tier since is a quality many of the characters lack; zoning has priority over ki blasts. Only about half of the roster of both Budokai 3 and Infinite World are actually good enough to compete with any other character/opponent. So pretty much a good fighting game shouldn’t have more than 30 different characters otherwise you always run into issues of variety.
There IS zoning, no turtling though and why would you complain about that? In Burst Limit there’s only 20 characters, and each characters play totally differently. Piccolo is meant to attack from long range with his stretchy arms, same with Goku with his elbow starter, some other characters have to fight up close. All combos performed the same way? Try Piccolo and Vegeta in Burst Limit, Piccolo has a VSE juggle while Vegeta has long ground chains with his Big Bangs cancel. In this game the difference between noobs and advanced players is much more evident, because if you don’t know the cancel system you can’t deal significant damage period. Whereas in SF4 you can pick Blanka and not have to worry about FADC combos or links.
Some characters have juggle throws, comboable special move that can juggle and so on… You have to learn Ki management, how to teleport properly, knowing when the opponent will teleport to counter. IW is a lot deeper than B3 with the Aura Guard and Dash in, I haven’t played SBAR so can’t talk about the game.
