I’m thinking I must have missed something. If you can guard cancel a chain and follow up with another chain, what’s to stop you from simply doing the same chain over and over? Why aren’t there infinites?
If you hit them with the same chain starter twice in the same combo, it knocks them down.
Edit: Just to clarify, this means any combination of chains starting with, say, (>p) will knock them down, so you can’t do something like (>p,k,k~)*(>p,p,p,p), or the infinites you alluded to.
Has anyone opened the Red Ribbon Army area yet? If so how do yha do it. I stayed up til 3:30am on a school day trying to figure that out. And playing in Dragon’s Area mode. Firce competition indeed. But right now I’m vs. Lv. 81 Kid Trunks!
And is it true you can unlock Sibamen and Cell Jr. (the coolest character in the game…lol)?
So I take it this one is better then the two previous tittles? I bought and played both, but the fighting system was too limited for continued serious interests from me. I luv DBZB, they just need to a more in depth fighting engine.
The past two games SUCK compared to DBZ:B3!!!
In terms of depth it takes the cake along with great fighters such as Tekken or even STF for that matter!.
I strongly sugest that you play this game!!!
If thats the case then it’s possible to have infs. For example; if the opponent is knock down you can just OTG them back up like how you showed us in the vid.
Is that possible?
Also, digimonemporer your speaking way to highly of this game. I mean it’s a good game and all, but everytime I see you post about this game you always state things as a fact like “OMG!!!1 THIS IS TEH B3ST GAME EVAR!!!1one!11!!1!” which is kind of annoying. Personally, I found part 1 as the best but thats my opinion.
Well, people can tech roll in this game, plus I’m not sure if you can combo off an OTG hit.
And Budokai 2 is definitely better than 1, 1 had some infinites as I recall. 2 has none that I know of.

PozerWolf : I’m not on here to entertain your sense of being annoyed or not.
Sorry man,but the first one is better because of one essential thing:A TRUE STORY MODE!Make no mistake,Dragonball Z Budokai 3 is the bomb;after all, what other fighting game gives you 20 years worth of manga/anime in one unforgettable experience?
Enough said.Very soon,it’s time for the facts.
Wow, that was a pretty cool vid. I didn’t know they had so much more work into the fighting engine since the first one. I wasn’t going to pick this up at first but I think you just sold me!
–jedi//.
dl’ing vid now, thanks for even making a tutorial. it’ll be go0d to see, hell, anyone off this rock (lllll calls home) play this game.
- budakai 2 had infinites, beeeelllllllliiiieeeeeeeeevvvveeee me. d;j
llllllllll, man! Is that really you!?!
I haven’t seen you in ages. :wow:
And who made that awesome avatar? hehe
Well if you can roll, then I guess it’s not possible. Thanks for the info.
Also, I didn’t like part 1 'cause of the “story mode” I just thought that the game felt alot more fluid. Also, IIRC B1 did had 3 infs (2 with No. 17 and 1 with Vegeta… did I spell that right). I know No. 17 had an inf that went Back+P, Back+P <repeat>.
Still downloading the vid…
But I played B2 a lot(didn’t like B1 very much because everyone in my area had played it and I didn’t own it and never got to play it so they were a lot better than me) as soon as I bought it and pretty much went through majority of characters and learned most of the cancel combos(even though many are common sense, there were a few that were “unique” and required some skill and timing). I enjoyed the game a lot but thought it was sort of cheap that while playing as Freeza I was guaranteed a special at the end of my combo w/ the infinite energy capsule. There were downsides but still, it was stupid. Plus, Freeza wasn’t hampered by being a tall character, so I think it came down to skill rather than tier when playing Freeza.
It sucks that many people see this game as a no skill game. This game actually has a bit of depth that can only be seen by people who take the game seriously though I think. Fun party game too though if everyone sucks and is just doin combos all over the place, however learning to do cancel combos and when not to and how to play mind games and do resets is just like any other game - It takes skill you know?
I find that in this game, it’s biggest improvement would have to be w/ the dodging. It somewhat resembles an actual DBZ fight which is awesome. Being able to get out of some of the cancel-combos is nice, but it also sucks because you lose a lot of your ki hahaha. It tones the game down a bit though in that sense which is a good thing if you ask me. Video just finished so I’m gonna go watch it now.
By the way, whoever posted about the OTGs, I dun remember ever being able to do that. Perhaps you’re talking about the tech hits?
Anyone in MD play this game?
Just watched the vid. Great tutorial. This covers semi-complicated stuff in the game and makes them easy for beginners to learn. Chibi Trunks is a beast 4 life! I need to practice my Ubuu. Even if his combos aren’t very good, I’ll stick with him anyways because my favorite character Piccolo is too big to hit everyone so that’s a lot of poop. Ubuu should do fine…
Match vids would be awesome I hope you keep elevating yourself bruddah.
This is basically correct. If they don’t quick recover, you CAN combo into an OTG hit, but even if you successfully reset them into it, it’s not a combo, just a reset into the cancel mind games.
Budokai 1 had infinites. I’m not aware of any true infinites in 2. There were the resets described earlier that a lot of people mistook as infinites, since they worked infinitely on the computer in practice mode on Guard 2 Breakfall On, but were actually escapable. Regardless, those don’t seem to work quite the same in B3, anyhow, since it appears they made the “same chain rule” that knocks them down extend for a little bit after a completed combo.
I’ve seen your B2 stuff and it’s very fun to watch. However, I would love to see a real match between two comparable players.
The one thing that makes me nervous about this game is the ‘twirling’ of the analog stick to pull off moves. I never want to play anything like “track and field” againe. How do you feel about this as an experienced player?
Is it just me, or is that the moves in the Budokai series have very slow recovery?
After doing P,P,P,P, I wasing tapping UP+X 2-3 times in order to sidestep.
Plus, how does the COM recover so fast from getting hit by a guard break move with a successful hit? Before I can even recovery from doing the guard break move, they’re already rushing at me with their guard break attack.
On the whole, I think the whole “mashing buttons” thing is gimmicky. That’s why I’m glad that they took out spinning the sticks and mashing buttons to power up moves in B3 and replaced them with timing oriented button presses and a button-selection guessing game. You still spin the sticks during Burst modes and beam struggles, but frankly, those are extremely rare occurences.
Also, Ki is now your most important commoditity. Running out of Ki = swift, painful death.
