I would very much like to see the 5v5 go down the right way (the way a 5v5 would usually go.) For the first time in 7 years, we are able to have a number of people from different states that play the same game at least at a decent level fight it out, and this one looks like it has potential to be the best one (at least for the Midwest), it would be terribly disappointing if it were to be an SBO style match-up, where one player runs through 5 others, without the other 4 playing… that’s not a 5v5, you might as well play 2v2/3v3. I don’t think time should be a factor, if it has to run till 2:00am, then let it… unless the place the tournament is being run on has a closing hour.
If we are going to do a 5v5 the regular way, and we have 4 teams, then how is this going to be? is it each person plays their opponent on a specific team just once, and whoever wins gets a point, or do they play 2/3? and does each state play every state as well? So MN plays against IA, WI, and IL? or is it one state plays another, and whoever has the most wins advances to the finals where they would play the state that won their matches?
If we are to play a 5v5 on match per opponent: 3s matches that go to time over and 3 rounds are about 5 minutes (this won’t be happening, just preparing for the worst), there will be 25 matches total state vs state, so that’s 125 minutes, or 2 hours per state vs state, which means we might have to do elimination style, where 2 states battle and whoever wins more games will advance to the next round. If one state is the clear winner (has won 13 games), then I think the play should continue (we want to see as full potential of each state as possible.) We might need to have multiple set-ups for this (one isn’t going to do it.)
Off topic from the 5v5 discussion: I see that there is interests in TF, would anyone be willing to host a side tournament for it?
I think if we have 3-4 setups (entirely possible with many PS2s being brought) for the 5x5x5x5, it will not go too long. Running a 5x5x5x5 on one setup would take forever, even if was SBO style. Meh, it’s whatever Hogosha and Keela want to do, and I think they’re leaning toward SBO style.
SBO style, where team 1 plays team 2, and team 3 plays team 4… with the winners of those two matches playing to decide the winner of it all seems to make the most sense. Sure, we won’t get to play every team in that set up, but I think it would be the easiest to run, while keeping it’s cool factor.
You should really update the first page of this thread. Confirmed list of people attending, confirmed equipment being brought by SRKers, tourneys, updated fees, timeframe, etc…

Olli is confident that he’ll OCV the team entire team tournament! I told him I’d give him 10 bux if he does it. You guys gonna let Olli hate on your skillz like that?!?!?!
As for the state v state format:
It will be SBO style on the player level, but on the team level it will be round robin. Is that understood, or do I need to clarify?
(Everyone involved please quote that last line with a response of “understood” or “please clarify” accordingly.)
IL is gonna tear through this tourney like a fat kid tears through pies, or a monkey goes through peanut butter, or an elephant goes through ethopian children, or godzilla goes through midgets.
nehow, all 4 turn out ugly …
… and after that we are all going out for bennigans.
We only got the place until like 9 or 10, however long I can convince the owner to stay open. So as much as I’d like to do 150 total 3rd Strike matches for the Team Tourney (yes, that’s how many there’d be if we did everything round-robin), I’m sincerely doubting it’s gonna happen. With the normal format (while still having every team play each other), we’re looking at a maximum of 54 matches, minimum of 30. Double-elimination would be roughly the same (63 max, 30 min). I just don’t think we’d be able to have the time for anything other than SBO format.
