DBQ BBQ 4, 4/12, Dubuque, Iowa

Yeah, I remember at last year’s DBQ, CvS2 was started before everything else, and we still finished 2-3 other tourney games before CvS2 ended.

Games I am entering:

CVS2
3S
Arcana

Side games:

Naruto
MIRA
Smash
QoH2k1
Tekken
KOF XI
Guilty Gear AC

i’m in this for Guilty Gear. that’s about it.

looking forward to side games the most though. no one here plays arcana/melty so i really want to get some good casuals in.

Hey guys, wuz-luuuhhhh -

There will, indeed, be 3 versus city cabinets there with all sanwa parts. If there are any issues with the joysticks or buttons I have plenty of new parts to switch in immediately, so no worries about mashers or shitty controls.

One issue is that Third Strike is Japanese version B. I’m not sure how people feel about this, but we always have ps2’s for that anyway.

ST is Japanese version (Super Street Fighter 2X: Grand Master Challenge) and I have two boards, so running two cabs of ST for the tournament would make things go HELLA fast.

Vampire Savior is obviously the Japanese version, not sure if you guys want it there or not - this or 3S can be opted out for the 2nd ST if need be.

Looking forward to seeing some old faces, it’s been too long!

peace…

I just came. Thanks.

Amazing to hear! Would they be open for casuals on Friday for people coming early?!
This definitely gives an added affect to the team tourney.
I’m ready to request the whole weekend off.

How in this godforsaken world were you able to grab that many Versus cabs?!

I’m lookin’ forward to this.

Ugh, if Valgar (awesome 3S player from Madison, WI) still played, he has 2 Versus City h2h cabs w/ OLD-TYPE 3rd Strike. Think of it, 5 Versus City cabs, ST and 3S being played. It’d be like Japan in Iowa.

CvS2 teams, the way kenny described, takes the exact same ammout of time as regular CvS2. I’d be down for it.

We did team cincy vs team MI at SBII that way. (random groove random teams, though)

Well I remember going to “The Hip” in IL. To do some testing for Tekken DR and they had like 6 or 7 vs cabs. I was like, “WTH are these…would kinda suck playing marvel or soul calibur by myself!”. So then I sat down and played, and continued to keep losing to the computer (or so I thought). I got pissed and stated, “Since when in the fuck the computer got so bloody hard!!!”. Then surprisingly I heard the likes of Rob, Damien, and others cracking up. It just so happens they were directly across from me and pretty much telling me every move I did…

well anyways to make a long story short, my first experience with vs. cabs sucked…LOL! But man are they comfortable to play games on…damn…

They’re up there in the back room of the place right now. ST and VS are a quarter per credit, 3S is two quarters to start and one to continue.

Will Keela turn the machines on “Event Mode” for the tourney? Pay for play is okay I guess, but if we all give like $2 entry fee for the owner, then I’m sure we could just have “Event Mode” turned on, right?

What kind of turn out do you expect for each tournament? Would you consider having a 2vs2 ST tournament as well? ST is hella fast anyway and if the MN crew came down, we could possibly bring down a japanese supergun set up with ST so you could have 3 machines total.

Why, so you and Mike can rape everyone for free while holding hands? :lovin:
I just wanted to pop into this thread and say that there are some people from MN that are planning to come down (myself included), but Wes beat me to it.

Idk, Keits is pretty beastly in ST.

Also, who’s your best 3S player? Is he coming?

EDIT: Speaking of which, with this many people showing up, and having access to 3S arcade, how about a state battle?

Hogosha -

I’m definitely bringing DC setup (Vmu, converters, disc, etc) & PStwo.

is it april yet?

If there is no way to get a A Version board then imma have to say that the 3s arcade not be used for any serious tournys.

This really would hurt Murph for one thing (no unblockables) and if anyone played urien (If my friend Mike comes).

So yeah, the serious 3s stuff should be ps2 only while other events (state battles/teams etc) could be ran on the h2h cabs.

A VS tourny on of the head to heads would be sweet as well. Gotta bring the Anakaris rushdown lol.

ST on H2H is made of DEFINATE win though.

But yeah: if you can get ahold of that one guy with the A version of 3s then I have no problem with 3s being on H2H only

Me and my buddies are stoked for this event.

I am torn on this. It’s so rare that any of us get to play on Versus Cabs, let alone 3rd Strike on Versus Cabs. BUt I feel somewhat the same; new-type hurts a lot. However, keep in mind that even the FFA played ranbats on newtype a few times, so it’s not like it can’t be done and still be competitive. But yes, if someone said, “Andrew, your Ken will not be able to do back + MK -> Super because of the version we’re playing on”, I’d probably not want to play on that for anything serious.

The machines will definetly be set on freeplay during the tournaments. As for before and after the tournaments - I’ll hash it over with the owner of the space (as he gets part of the profit) and see what we come up with.

I think a reasonable way to do the 3S tournament would be to let both parties involved in the match determine what they want to play on: PS2 or arcade. Murhpy is the only person I know of that needs to use unblockables, I’m sure there are others, too (and pad warriors as well) - so they should be perfectly capable of opting out for the PS2 if they want. Maybe when signing up for the tournament also specify which method of playing you prefer: arcade or PS2. Of course, PS2 will have precidence over arcade if there is conflict in preference. That way when we create brackets, we can determine beforehand where the match will be held, on arcade or PS2.

Just so people know: THEE ONLY difference between A and B is truly the unblockables - that’s IT. (well maybe some barely noticable musical differences here and there?, jerk me off)

We could use this method of signing up beforehand for arcade_PS2 preference for super turbo as well, but there you run into some issues when arcade players absolutely don’t wanna play an inferior ported version of the game. shrugs

Let me know whatcha guys think…

HELLA hyped for this, though - gonna be good shit…
