It was Ross and Keno on a team. I don’t know how far they made it, but that comeback was beastly. I’m downloading the grand finals videos right now, Combofiends Viper is sick.
Edit: Fred, get on the Oro wagon RIGHT NOW! I played one on 2df, he’s got tons of tricks, and such a weird meta game too. His close medium beats so much crap, throws included. Throwing Oro is officially the most annoying thing ever. I’ll post the replay, I’m getting my ass kicked by this SoCal dude for awhile, but he’s pretty aggressive compared to you.
Why wouldn’t you wait until the 3s cab gets there to run the ranbat? I mean, unless it’s going to be another year or whatever until it comes in. If it’s going to get there during the ranbat season, we should definitely run 3s after it comes in instead of before.
Adam competition at SBO is always hella strong.
Lee, I need Japanese people. I am optimistic about America’s representatives this year though. Especially in Guilty Gear. Sean Howard and Latiff I know are solid, but I have to take Sean’s word on Jan.
Also, here’s hoping we get to see some (current) matches this year instead of like one match from each game and then a bunch of interviews and matches from last year’s DVD.
Viper was pretty good, but you see what happens to her when Honda gets a handle on it. Sagat fight was legit though. If this game doesn’t go away, I might pick it back up in a while, but right now I don’t want to put myself through that kind of frustration.
Osirun, ranbats should really be run for every game that there’s a community for once a month. That way you can keep track of how people place over time in their own games or whatever, but I understand we’re just trying something new here and maybe we should take it slow for now. Also, I would like to to request CRT only for Guilty Gear. I don’t know how how 3rd heads feel, but this is a concern of mine and I’m bad enough with FRCs as it is without screen lag. You can run a line out to display matches on the big screen for spectators, but for ps2 games and prior, I think matches should be run on CRT.
Would it be that much of an issue to run 3S on PS2 until they get the cab, and then run it on both to help things go smoothly? I’ve never played 3S on arcade, so I’m not sure how big a difference there is (although I realize the difference exists) between the two versions.
When I talked to Jesse he said that when they were looking at a 3S cab at auction it got pulled out before bidding began. Apparently someone gave the sellers a private offer. So I think it’s best to just go with PS2 for now. It’s what everyone plays on already anyway.
That was already in the plan. BB will be running on the two wall mounted monitors in the back room, and I’ll have two 16-inch CRTs running GG.
Man they’re running on saturdays? I work EVERY saturday, and sadly it’s ensured I constantly miss tourneys and now the ranbats, hate you Staples I hate you so much.
Alright I really didn’t know what was going on with that. I didn’t know if you were running the games every month or not. I guess my point was that if the 3s cab showed up the week after the ranbat or something, that would kind of be dumb when you could simply shift 3s back a week or whatever to run the ranbat on the machine. As long as we understand that the schedule exists because of the ranbats and not the ranbats for the sake of the schedule. (Does that even make sense?)
16" sounds kind of small, but definitely preferable to HD anything for an SD game. If I show up, I got a slightly more reasonable tv (I think it’s 27" or something) we can use, but 16" isn’t unplayable and certainly won’t hurt anything.
Oh yeah, and now that I look at it again, what is the actual tournament format? Pools>brackets? Single elim? Double? I would love to get away from standard vanilla USA double-elim. Not that it’s a bad format for determining who is best, but since there will be 3 tournaments for each game within a season, double-elim isn’t really necessary since you’ve basically got 3 chances built in assuming you attend all ranbats for a given game. Also, posting up the point system for how well you place would be good too.
Also, don’t say no bans in BB until the game comes out. There might be new characters or EX modes or gold or something, just like in GG. Be careful and retract that ASAP.
Also, 2v2 events at the end of the season would be fun if time allows.
Also, would it be possible to run ranbats for Vampire, 98, CvS2, or whatever cabinets are already there? Maybe you don’t have to make them official or whatever, but I don’t see why we couldn’t just try to organize something like that on the side. Everybody I talk to that went down there and hasn’t play CvS2 before keeps telling me how they really wish they knew how to play it and how much fun they had with it.
Also, thanks so much for contributing to the arcade like this. Hope it all works out and generates a lot of interest and business for them.
Cocoichi, is there any way you can re-work your schedule or get a new job? Saturdays just work for so many people.
I’m in the same saturday boat, but I’m just gonna make it work for the 3s/sf4 day. Once a month should be possible for anyone, especially with a month’s warning.
My only complaint is the (minor) threat of multiple consoles for one game. I see no reason to ask for that confusion, or reward people who cause it with discounts.
Also, if hd remix flops, consider swapping in mvc2 next time.
Definitely bring your TV if you’d like. If it gets used you could get some money off your arcade entry fee. Now when you say 27" you mean the diagonal, right? I just remeasured my TVs and the 16" is the viewable width. My TVs actually have a diagonal of 20", so they’re not too much smaller. I guess I never thought about which measurement was the one normally used . . .
And yes, the schedule exists for the ranbats; that makes perfect sense. There was bound to be some confusion before I actually posted the details.
Do you mean asking for people to bring 360s? They only get a discount if the 360 is used. Otherwise it’s PS3 all the way, and they’ll be provided by the arcade. I just wanted to cover the bases, but I’ll eventually delete that part of the post and people will just have to deal with PS3 exclusivity.
Swapping in Marvel is definitely an option. We’ll just have to play the waiting game for right now and see what people show up for.
I’d be pretty pissed if HDR was swapped out. It’s a $1 or $2 or however much ranbat, people should try to show up no matter what game it is. Limiting yourself to one or two of the ranbats isn’t supporting shit but yourself, not the community.
Of course, the issue of work schedules is kind of a different story, but even so, you shouldn’t whine about the other games if you’re only going to be playing one of the days.
I think Marvel and some other game should be added, not swapped in.
A lot of games are far more popular than Brawl or Guilty Gear. I didn’t hear you saying you wanted them swapped out.
I wasn’t saying you had a personal agenda. I was just saying that games should only be added, in my opinion, not taken out…the more variety the better.
All I know is that I’m down for all of those damn games. I aint discriminating at all. Jack-of-all-trades and the master of none. It would be nice to see some life pumped into the death bed ridden CvS2 though. I’m tired of lookin at it with tears in my eyes while still pourin out liquor for it. Sigh… CvS2…
Only the games that suck (SF4, and non-fighting games.) Guilty Gear matched 3rd Strike’s turnout at TvU Beta.
Osirun, I asked a couple questions about formatting that you seem to ignored. I’m guessing you didn’t look after I edited, but if you could go back and read, that’d be nice.
I’ve been searching for a new job actually, hopefully I get one soon so I can get them saturdays off. And Darius we need to play some CvS Pharmacy 2 sometime, I was up at AL friday and found that I’m horrible, absolutely horrible at that game and would love to get some learnin in.
Well, right now I’m the only person helping AL start the ranbats. For the moment I just can’t be sure that I can dedicate that much time to having more than 6 games, and as said it all depends on what’s popular. If only a few people show up for HDR (or Brawl, or GG, or anything) then there wouldn’t be much point in continuing to use up time and space for the game.
ALL the games are subject to change. However, the goal is for AL to eventually be running these ranbats themselves, since I can’t possibly be at every single one. If they want to add games and run them, while I can still put in the maximum amount of time possible, then that’d be great for the people who play other games.
I meant for only people with 360 sticks to elect to play on the 360. It wouldn’t be mandatory. But, since it does seem to be a strange rule, I’m just going to delete the offer. PS3 all the way.
In the post I specify best 2/3, double elimination. I don’t understand why double-elimination wouldn’t be necessary. For purposes of variety I understand the point, but aside from round robin, double-elimination is the best bracket type to determine overall victors. You have 3 chances to build up points, true, but each tournament also has separate prizes. It’s best to go with what’s best time-wise and most fair.
2v2 teams, Vampire Savior, KOF 98, CvS2, Darkstalkers, etc. All great ideas, and things that I simply don’t think I would have time to organize. Until AL puts me on payroll (not going to happen :), I can’t put too much pressure on my time.
That said, if you or anyone else would like to run these things then just ask Jesse at AL, and I’m sure he’d be willing to work with you.
Point taken, and posts amended on the BB rules. I was just using the rules posted for SBO on Dustloop here. But, I think they’re using arcade, so I’ll just leave the BB rules TBD.
Thanks for the interest, encouragement, and critique
