You try that Walmart?
pros:
-variety
-generally better for spectators
–OCVs are epic
–comebacks are epic
–at the very least everyone has their teammates cheering for them
-encourages practice because hopefully you don’t want to drag your team down
-maybe I would play 3rd Strike
-limits counter-picking (should just be one character per player)
cons:
-I don’t have to practice if I don’t feel like it because if I lose, I’ve only let myself down, and I can live with that
-lower turnout
–entrants must be multiples of 2 or 3, means either…
—sign up as a solo team or 2man in 3man tourney, lowers their chances
—don’t sign up because you can’t find a 3rd
–nubz will be discouraged
-hurt feelings
–Josh Queen has no friends
–everybody wants to be on a good player’s team, but limited number of spots
–or their friend’s team
-more winners = less money per winner unless you jack entry up.
So yeah, from a purely entertainment, competitive and (thereby) spectatorial perspective, teams is better. It weeds out (most of the) the players that know they don’t stand a chance, makes it more fun to watch, more fun to play, shrinks the tier gap, and encourages improvement/growth.
This would be great if we had a large pool of purely competitive players, but since it’s about the paper, and since turnout is still low enough that it’s a concern, singles is the the most realistic way for where we’re at right now.
This sucks guys.
Edit: Quentin, I thought you were working. Also, arcade is WAAAAAAY far for you to travel daily, how you gon’ get thur?
Also edit: shout out to my boy Darius for playing me at 4 at arcade Saturday. It was kind of fun. I can’t believe I’m already complaining when there’s a super awesome arcade so close to me, but they NEED JP sticks for 4.
1.) Team events require you to rely on other people
2.) Team events require you to rely on other people
3.) Team events require you to rely on other people
I don’t really like cons 1…2…and 3…but hey, whatevz. Finding people who play my game seriously is much too difficult to ever run main events as teams.
Also: Yes, that arcade is Mike South’s wet dream. Nothing but American sticks.
Thanks for the shoutout Matt. Those sticks for that SF4 were pretty bad but only because it was at an angle. They’re gonna fix em though…I hope.
Me and Mike South was litterally ghetto stomping enemies in that Metamorphic Force (I think thats the name) game. That was some top tier shit…and ghetto shit. Who knew…
DAWG This is a priceless video…

Quan - I did , and I didnt hear anything from them but weaver did.
Matt- My brother lives in cincinnatti and I can just stay with him and work.
I like 3v3 tourneys
Hey guys, the mixtape vol. 1 is almost done. Josiah and I are going to figure out a way to post it online whenever he finishes. We may have to chop it up and put it on youtube in segments.
Which brings me to vol. 2…does anyone have any additional input (especially those who have seen most of vol. 1)? This can range from:
*- Songs (Not necessarily your favorite song, but a few that you think will help)
-
Content (How was it shot? Edited? I know Josiah wants to stage some ideas…)
-
Match material (Self explanatory…)
-
Additional material (I was playing around with the idea of combo exhibitions…)
-
Does the mixtape even WORK for you guys? (Were we too cocky? confident? funny? Are we jumping ahead of ourselves or do you think the timing is right?)*
***Any other additional input is welcome. I just wanted to get an idea of where Dayton really stands on the mixtape. I’ve pretty much designated myself as doing a majority of the editing for vol. 2 (possibly). I’ll even try to get an external hard drive in the summer (cause I’ll need it anyway) to store more footage. If anyone knows of a really GOOD inexpensive external hard drive to store a lot of video footage, post it.
::EDIT:: On another note… is a dick. Really. lol.
Jo showed me some of the footage (don’t know which volume) and the edititng was squeaky clean.
I think there should be a better variety of games, though. Everyone was doing half 3s and half 4 except for Matt. I also think there should be more personal music/text/color schemes for each segment. Sort of like a skate video.
I’m not familiar with the actual “and 1” videos or whatever. I didn’t even know what that was, so maybe I have the wrong idea.
Overall, its cool. People at the Hooters tourney were asking to be filmed and included.
Quite obviously it needs more ME in it. Get that done and everything will fall into place.
Aside from that, we just need ALOT more match vids to pull from, and stuff that highlights each players personal style moreso I’d think. I mean, the mixtape works because as everyone’s gotten better, we’ve defined our styles of play even moreso.
And I think that’s kinda the direction we have to go. More talking about playstyles/tournaments and the like. Goofy stuff is good, but mix in more gaming and interviews and chillin out and gaming.
That’s my suggestion anyway.
I went from being a total scrub who couldn’t beat anyone at ST in November to beating Graham Wolfe 50% of the time in May and I’m not even on the mixtape, I don’t think.
It was great seeing the Dayton crew at the Big City tournament on Saturday. I’m glad I had a chance to chill with you guys.
It was cool to have a sneak-peak of the sweet mix-tape
Also, Did anyone record footage from the tournament?
Michael.

Jo said he’s covering 4 people per tape, and even then everyone’s individual sections aren’t that long (like 5-7 minutes at the most). I think editing wise, the RL scenes need to be cut down just a little bit. I really like some of them though, and I think people who don’t even know us will get a laugh, it just takes awhile to get to those points.
Also, I don’t think we need to come off as cocky, we should just say that this is for entertainment purposes, and we want you to enjoy it for what it is. I mean, those And 1 mix tape guys only a few of them get into the NBA, but the majority of them can’t hang, yet it is way more entertaining than the NBA because you are seeing things you have never seen before.
Editing wise, what Lee said, I think if it looked more like a skate video (and Josiah did add a lot of cool camera effects at points) it would be cleaner. Carter’s section is a perfect example of good editing that makes for a great watch.
Jordyn, you’ll probably have parts in the next one, just remember Josiah had started this idea back in February, and we’ve been filming from there, so if you didn’t get a ton of attention it’s because you simply weren’t there at a lot of these events. Don’t worry, you’ll get a section, just keep at it in HDR (and hopefully with 3s :wgrin:)
After seeing your Advent Children project Kam, I’m very happy that you’ll be taking over editing. I think you have an eye or a knack for it, and you’ve obviously got experience. We’ll probably have to split it up on youtube, unless we can find some place to host the entire file.
Edit: I’ll be at the Arcade Legends tourney if some people wanna go.
Jinmaster: I think Josiah was too busy getting the hooter’s girls on camera, but I think he got a couple of matches and interviews.
Lee - I agree with the choices of games in the mixtape. It does feature majority SF games. However, that IS what this side of town plays unfortunately. I think the new lineup of next gen games should change things up this summer though. Also, I tend to think that the mixtape jumps all over the place instead of being somewhat central (Which sort of relates to what you mean about the personal segments). I seem to get a little lost sometimes…
Jason - It DOES need more you in it! lol. Interviewing sounds good…I just found my camera today, so it looks like we will be lucky in that department.
Jordyn - You’re on the mixtape…losing to me sadly. Not to worry though because not only was it old ST, it just definitely wasn’t your match that time. To make up for it, you WILL be included in the next one. lol. That sort of thing WILL be fixed in the next one though because we WILL include more players. I’m not sure if Josiah makes it clear that there is more of us in Dayton than whomever is in the mixtape, but that excluding wasn’t his intention.
***To tag onto the last point in Jordyn’s message…It’s no American Idol fellas to those who aren’t in the mixtape. This IS the first one and Josiah DOES have to stop recording footage at some point to complete the volume. I hope no one feels bad like they aren’t cool enough to be in it or something like that.
As far as games…here is what I’m thinking to include in the next one. I’ll post links of some really solid matches just to give you an idea:
*- - (The game is just…funny. Fun Fun
-
- (It’s what Dayton knows…lol)
-
- (See 3S)
-
- (See SF4)
-
- (Cause there will be still people to play this instead of BB)
-
- (I’ll admit how difficult this might be to get, but that might change soon)
-
- (Extremely flashy game, it will make good footage)
-
- (See KOFXII)
-
- (Of course Kameron would mention this game…
-
- (This can make good footage, but I would rather look at Brawl+ instead. I think this game looks great at high skill level)*
I also think Im_zcZUFcqE"]Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is a notable mention even though it is sort of dead. I’ll reserve judgment on the American version release. I would personally want some VF5R (if it were to come out this year) especially since Sega just release , but nothing about console has been discussed.
/angry about that last part…
I might miss out a few games that I’ve forgot to mention, but even if you hate some of these games guys, I still want honest input. Also, with the new addition to Arcade Legends in Ohio, that will make also make GREAT footage.
::EDIT:: Adam, I think we should still include players from vol. 1 into vol.2 because the footage will change. I think maybe to compensate for Josiah’s intention for the mixtape, perhaps the guys in vol. 1 could have shorter features in vol. 2? The And1 mixtape are pretty central to new incoming ball players. However, we have sort of developed a documentary instead of a mixtape…which extends itself more to the community instead.
I’m not particularly concerned about being in a tape at all, I was just stating for the record.
I’d like to play some something sometime soon, be it HDR, 3S, or Magic (yes, I have a type 2 deck now).
I saw some video deal from Josiah the last time he came to Keiths place. If this mixtape deal is anything like that then it’ll be very good in my opinion. It’ll be PERFECT if the elusive Shin Darius was in it but eh… Mike South will do.
i couldnt live in chi town. Its too much fun. I got a major bang over from the prodigy. Arcade tuesday? Darius, that is OUR cvs2 cab!
For the record, once I got used to those sticks, it was My CvS2 cab. Blanka OCVs ftw. I am off tomorrow, though, so I might just show up. Good rounds though, Darius and Luke. As soon as they get a few more stools/chairs for their games, it’ll be a lot better.
blanka ocv’s are not shit compared to ratio 4 maki haha! That ratio 1 bison r3 joe team was hot! Yea good shit. If you come out tommorow will you bring those buttons and yo universal soldering iron?
Quan and I will be there again tomorrow, that place is awesome. The owners are real cool too, they’ve got good ideas. Also, we both got buy 1 get 1 free passes, so if 2 more people wanna ride with, let me know.
