Templates are really meant to be used to provide an accurate measurement of the joystick face & show cut out holes for the buttons & joystick so you can do your custom artwork. The “letters and shapes” really don’t matter much. The one template posted above will work just fine on the Datel/Joytron/Mayflash. They are practically the same; In fact I’ll use the very same template posted above, throw some artwork & post a picture of it by tomorrow id you would like?
Having trouble removing the button board from the main PCB.
The vertical pins are soldered to the button board and I don’t have a way to remove the solder. It won’t just “wiggle free” like: http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=222084&p=8388389&viewfull=1#post8388389 did
Is is possible to chip away solder with a sharp hobby knife?
Okazaki did mention in that post that he didn’t really mean to try and wiggle off the board (its just went that way for him :)). With that being said I dunno If Id try and pry the board off with out a soldering iron. You can probably try and x-acto knife like you mentioned but I would suggest that you could always drive on down to a True Value/Radio Shack/ or maybe a Lowes/Home Depot and score an iron for cheap. Maybe even a friendly neighbor might be another option as well.
You can use a hobby knife, scissors, etc to remove the board. If you want to desolder it (since you have to solder on teh new wires anyway) that could work too.
edit If you wanted to do that totally solderless as that post mentioned just cut it close to the junk PCB so you have enough room for the QD’s to attach. That said, if you’re using the Datel stick only for the PCB and not the case you’ll be doing some soldering anyway (select start home)
I ended up clipping the board off little by little until it was just pins with solder in the middle
Now i’ll either leave the little bits of solder there or i’ll cut that away
Picture:
Leave the solder be. If you decide to solder wires to the board instead of trying the QD method you’ll need the solder
WoW this is crazy. Im going to order one right now. Thanks!
Just a little heads up for you guys, MS is suing Datel over patent infringement.

Things aren’t looking so good :shake:
How likely is it that they would patch the 360 for this to not work?
Not likely?
No idea man, I have no clue how they got past the ms pad authentication.
better start buying this sticks, before its too late.
aww shi~ that was pretty quick
Psst, Datel; release all your code and info asap before you get injucte…rejuncte…ordered to not!
Haha I hear that, if we’re lucky that might just happen.
think this could have any effect?
Hmm, looks like MS can’t simply lock the chip out (at least without engatively affecting other, licensed, 3rd party peripherals) so their taking the legal route. Personally, I’m hoping this goes the way of the Lexmark suit where the courts ruled that it was illegal to force a lockout on a consumer mechanism.
We need UltraDavid in here, stat.
This is probably a stupid question, but does anybody have an idea on what the best way to add custom art to one of these would be? Plain white or that basic Datel art would be okay for an interim but if this stick is going to be taken anywhere I’d really prefer something better.
There’s a template available on the previous page.
Well the template’s not the problem. I’m wondering about the process after you’ve designed your artwork - what’s the best approach to applying artwork to stick?
