Darwyn Cooke's New Frontier going to DVD - Teaser up on youtube

Wonder Woman

I’ve never read the story, but I hear good things. The DVD isn’t slated to come out till sometime next year I think.

Oh man, that looks great! Straight out of the comic. COOKE is the truth. I am so looking forward to this. New Frontier has got to be DC’s best comic of the past few years. It came out around the time that everyone was paying attention to Identity Crisis, but New Frontier wipes its ass with Crisis. There’s just no way that this can be bad.

Wow looks like the DCAU style but not really. Me like. :lovin:

Say, isn’t there a trailer or a teaser trailer of the Death of Superman straight to DVD cartoon? A friend told me he saw it when we were talking on the phone but I never got around to looking for it, confirming it was out there and then I forgot about it…

In non related news at all I picked up the third and final season of Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law today. What, Apache Chief and Black Vulcan of Super Friends are in it, joint counts lol!

i never read the story either, but man, it looks great. definitely going to have to pick it up when it comes out.

I think they have a link on the imdb page for that. I forget though.

they do…as well as youtube should have it.

Found it and while I’m at work I can’t have the volume blasted it looks really good. The same style as New Frontier too. Can’t wait to see what the Teen Titans Judas Contract one looks like since that will have my homeboy Nightwing lol! In case anyone else hasn’t seen the Death of Superman Trailer -

And yeah it seems like they will be giving both this and New Frontier at the San Diego comic con. Just another reason for me to hate everyone who is attending. J/K have fun to those who are going.

i really enjoyed the story and that pic is prob as close as you’re going to get to the art in the actual book. with today’s “american anime” trend and whatnot.

This is why me and Zephy are gonna be the two people to repopulate this planet.

New Frontier is my favorite DC story of all time. I still have the original six-issue run and I’m dying to buy Absolute New Frontier. I just can’t help but wonder what would have been if this were to have been translated completely. Just imagine, a mini-series of the sort to show off each issue animated.

Even the 70 minute movie will kick all sorts of ass. I just can’t wait to see Batman and the Martain Manhunter’s first meeting in motion.

Batman: I’ve been watching you, Mister Jones. I know all about you. Except where you come from. My instincts tell me you’re to be trusted, but make no mistake–

It took a seventy-thousand dollar sliver of meteor to stop the one in Metropolis. With you, all I need is a penny for a book of matches.

^^^^ I’m led to believe that Kevin Conroy will NOT be involved in this, correct?

With each other.

That’s all right, I’m from San Francisco

i hope kevin conroy is going to be involved in it. he’s got THE distinctive voice for batman.

neil patrick harris voicing barry allen? i think he’d be a better wally west.

[edit]

just checked wikipedia. kevin conroy isn’t going to be voicing batman. a guy named steven blum is. he voiced ken in the street fighter alpha movie.

I love Darwyn Cookes work

Looks great, love Darwyn Cooke’s stuff… Looks like it will look good animated. Alot like Bruce Timm’s designs for the Batman Animated Series.

Doogie Howser as Barry is dope. But, we’ll have to wait and see. Wally isn’t in New Frontier. This story takes place in the Silver Age, so yeah.

It is a younger a Batman. This is basically a Year One of the sorts for the DCU.

And the TPBs are available. This is one of those works you have to own. Fuck that downloading shit.

Bruce Timm is actually working on this as well. It’s just using Darwyn’s designs from the story. Plus, this isn’t the first time Darwyn has done animated stuff. He was on staff for the last season of Batman TAS(the crappy one on Kids WB) and he did the intro art for Batman Beyond.

Doogie Howser was Spider-Man’s voice on the MTV cartoon. He did a pretty good job on that show.

TPBs, shucks, gotta get the Absolute Edition… That’s next on my hitlist. After seeing that picture, I am newly motivated to upgrade myself.

The story is more about the transition from the Golden Age to the Silver Age. So in that way it is kind of a Year One-ish because we do get to see how Hal, J’onn, and others start out. But I believe Batman, Superman, and WW were all active for some time before the story begins. Nonetheless, they are still younger than their prime despite the fact that in real life they debuted in the Golden Age.

I kind of look at Robinson/Smith’s The Golden Age, The New Frontier, and Kingdom Come as sort of related. Each of those stories is like the definitive DC saga for its respective era: the Golden Age, the Silver Age, and the modern age. And if anything deserves to be called “epic,” it’s definitely The New Frontier. Unlike that bullshit Crisis bullshit, trying shove the EPICNESS down our throats with every other Claremontesque rambling page.

And not only do I got faith in Timm to deliver the goods, but COOKE himself is personally involved in this project. So even though it’s a 70 minute adaptation of a 400 page body of work, I’m sure it will stand on its own merits as an eternal testament to human achievement.

Well, I recommended the TPBs cause they’re cheaper. The Absolute Edition is definitely a must-have. I’ll keep it on the coffee table, too.

Guest: Hey, what’s that?

Me: The Bible.

I think I got kind of giddy trying to explain it. It’s New Frontier. Everyone should have read this. And yeah, Batman, Supes, and WW were active already.

I don’t think Timm has ever steered us wrong.

Deathy, let us begin repopulating the planet NOW
