Darkstalkers (Vampire) series appreciation thread

Right there with you man.

No need to be sorry, I know about my faults.

I finally got a copy of the PS2 collection game, and it’s such a shame it wasn’t brought over here.
The detail in just about everything is incredible…

Personally, I always preferred Vampire Hunter to Savior, didn’t like the gameplay changes especially to characters like Demitri with his FB and what they did to his D,F,DF+KKK super.

^ I had that same problem with Vampire Savior. That’s one of the only things CFJ actually got right.
Other then that, Vampire Savior is where it’s at.

On that note, to anyone who knows, I pose this question…

Question: How good is the DC’s Vampire Chronicle in terms of arcade perfection? Do all the respective combos from (DS1-DS3) Vampire, VHunter and VSavior/Sav.2 work? Is the timing the same, etcetera?

man we need to get some GGPO action

If you want arcade perfection chronicles is no good…ps2 collection is where it’s at…and you want to be playing either VH or Vsavior…Vsav2 is a shitty rendition of VS and should be treated like it never existed…and for all you people wondering what high level play looks like just check out neojinbe youtube account…he has a lot of good mikado matches uploaded and his page is all high level VS play.

Darkstalkers needs the SF4 treatment. This would be amazing.

I agree with some of the other poster here as well. I never cared for 3s. I always thought darkstalkers was great. We gotta give it some love.

I always figured Darkstalkers was the type of series that need to stay 2d animated too many violent animations. You could never pull of a T rating with a 3D Darkstalkers. They should hire Arc Systems Works to codevelop.

I’ll give some love to Darkstalkers. I’ve been playing the shit out of it on my PSP. I don’t know shit about GGPO, but I’m tempted to get my feet wet with it so I can play some older vs games.

vs is great sas and talbain ftw ds 4 NOW

To me Darkstalkers is one of those series that for all its full of endearing qualities - like amazing animation and great character designs - hasn’t aged very well. It always had physics, hit properties, and a general stiff feeling that made it second-rate next to the core Street Fighter games IMHO. It just wasn’t up to Capcom’s highest standards. That, and the downright bizarre inputs on many classes of moves and supers - those seemed to be different for the sake of being different, but there was no reason for them to be that way.

I’d love to see a new Darkstalkers but only so long as its not overly faithful to the way the series played and felt in your hands. The play needs to be far more crisp, hit harder, and perhaps move a bit faster. Characters need to be more agile. And input conventions need to be overhauled.

I do think though that the game could be done easily enough with 2.5d visuals ala SFIV - while Darkstalkers was relatively violent, it’s also very cartoony. (Come on, many characters have downright slapstick animations.) Any extreme violence could be portrayed in a cartoony enough manner to probably get in under the T for Teen rating.

Move faster than the standard arcade’s Turbo 3 speed?
Or have you been playing on normal speed?

Could ‘darkstalkers iv’ be capcom’s 2nd secret game at e3 this year???!

one could highly hope so but i doubt it… they been more active this past year in the FG scene. i think it would be highly unlikely!

daigo shows MAD love for Vampire hunter in the July arcadia article.
you’d think if such a God showed respect for this game, enough people would do the same

oh well, he bumps up 100000% with me

What did he say?

http://www.versuscity.net/2009/05/30/arcadia-july-umehara-six-page-interview/

? Game where he worked the hardest (on tournaments) in was Vampire Hunter, and game that he had the most fun with was Vampire Hunter and Alpha 3.

Let the diago dick riding contest commence…
