Darkstalkers (Vampire) series appreciation thread

Oh… yeahh… unf, unf

Ugh!!! :encore:

That said, Daiogo seems like a really nice and laid back guy now, and none of that silly trash talk of the US players. I like Daigo.

If they would release a new Darkstalkers game, can we not take a step BACK in execution requirements? That was one of my biggest gripes with sf4 compared to previous sf’s. No shortcuts, no easy commands. Just give us tried and true VS style play. Doesn’t have to be VS3 by another name, just don’t kill the fun in the game for those of us that enjoy the stringent execution demands.

if they do bring a sequel, they need to keep the tons of win quotes each character has.
i really liked the innuendos of the female characters, made me think i was playing a game made for adults with a fiendish mind.
this game is mainly about dark enemies and evil, why should their win quotes be toned down??

“attack me harder, i want to get all hot and sweaty too!”

Hey I own Darkstalkers 3 for the PSX and I was just wondering, what’s the tournament standard turbo speed on the eight star scale?

turbo 3 is the arcade standard.

but since the console version has a ton of options im not 100% certain.

Hopefully Vampire Hunter will see a release on 360/PS3. That was the last truly great Capcom fighter in my opinion. It struck the perfect balance between offense and defense and had great production value. It still looks and plays beautifully. Heck, I’d be happy with DarkStalkers. Anything but Savior! MvC2 and BlazBlue already have the spamfest demographic covered.

lol savior plays nothing like those games, its more like street fighter on steroids.

Same here. It’s really the only use my PSP gets anymore. Left Trigger for Fierce Punch is, however, not key.

Spamfest? You’re going to have to elaborate on what sounds like in extremely ignorant statement.

I MISS THIS GAME (SERIES).

Yo how was that PSP one? Besides that tower mode, was it a faithful port?

When I get some extra monies I’m considering either:

A. Buying a PSP, and Chaos Tower

B. Re-buying a PS2, modding it, and re-ordering Vampire Darkstalkers Collection

PSP DS is actually pretty badass. But it’s a mish-mash of all three games, as opposed to ports of each individual game. Not necessarily a bad thing.

The same game was released for Dreamcast in Japan. It’s the exact same thing, but with better controls (if you have a DC stick). If it were me, I’d go for the DC version, especially since it’s so, um, easy to find games for it. :wink:

Bitches stole my DC a few months ago. Probably didnt even know what the fuck it was. Thought they were getting a dvd player and bootleg movies. Dumbasses.

PSP +VCT sounds enticing. But I actually LOVED my Vampire Darkstalkers Collection. I just dont want to go through getting another ps2, modding it, and then ordering the game again, which is probably expensive as fuck. Sigh…

giev VS HD Remix :tup:

yess i need to keep breaking people with bish

$30 replacement, Brocephus. Beats the fuck out of spending all that loot on a PSP or PS2. Besides, the DC is just pure fucking gangsta!

ps: much Memphis and LR love. I miss the South.

Makes sense. No offense, but I dont have a DC stick(JUST got my modded jap stick for PS2/PS3) and I just about refuse to play on DC pad again unless it’s PJ. I actually wouldnt know what that felt like otherwise. DC was my fave system but once I began to play fighters at a higher level i realized that I either needed to get a stick or move on. And I would actually want a game that included the individual games. Not a mish-mash of them unless they have the options to recreate it as close to arcade perfect as possible.

Fuck Memphis lol. What’s “LR”?

I hear ya. I would prefer to play the original Darkstalkers without any of the extra bells and whistles myself. Fuck it, there’s always MAME.

LR=Little Rock. Fuck Memphis? Haha, are you a yankee transplant or something?

No computer = No MAME or GGPO.

If you lived in Memphis, you’d know. Or not. I’m probably one of the few here not brainwashed.

Also, I’ll bet you $100 you can’t find 5 people in Memphis who know what “Vampire Savior” is. I didnt say Darkstalkers 3! Vampire Savior. “Yes, it is a scary movie. Riiight…”

Yeah, I never really found any competition in Memphis. I lived there for a summer, grew up in LR. There’s more of a fighting game scene in LR than there is in Memphis. Both cities produce awesome music/musicians, though.

Nah, there IS a scene. And some great talent. They just never travel or even come to the tournaments in their own backyards. Lazy punks.

Oddly enough, GG is the biggest and most “serious” scene here. Serious.

I’m going to bluntly honest and state what I’d want in a Darkstalkers 4

a) return ALL the characters in the series as of Vampire Savior 2/Hunter 2;
b) retain and remix the BGM; there’s no reason to redo all the music and introduce a bunch of new themes nobody would care for; I think the music was handled well in SF IV and I want to see this consideration for a new Darkstalkers game
c) Hi-res is a must; SF IV-level art or the deal’s off;
d) I’d only want new characters (4 tops) if they can be made as appealing as the previous characters and somehow tie into the storyline as it is; most of the more popular classic monster and myth characters have already been covered and I think it’d be tough to fit in more than 4 new characters as things stand;
e) please base the game on the Nightwarriors/Vampire Hunter/DS2 game engine and rules. The original Darkstalkers was the worst-balanced, worst-controlling, and most utterly maddening game in the series! It ties with Street Fighter: The Movie as the worst Capcom fighting game of its period IMHO.

As good as Vampire Savior generally was, it’s far from the best-balanced game, too, and it has the awful Killer Instinct game rule that favors the first player to win a round… I do NOT like how the health bars were handled (non-regeneration between rounds when you win) in Vampire Savior, period. VS also ruined certain characters like Felicia and took away character moves and complicated other moves that made Nightwarriors/VH/DS2 a more-balanced game. No sir, I don’t care for worsening a GOOD gaming experience that way!

f) I understand the requirement for basing the game on polygons; do this the SF IV way or don’t do the game, period; I happen to like stylized art better than the current emphasis on “realism” and motion-capturing things to death… I want the game to feel like classic Darkstalkers and NOT Tekken or Virtua Fighter.
g) Do the character models in a stylized manner and pay attention to all the body details. One pet peeve I had with SF IV is that most of the women were handled well but big-bossomed Crimson Red looked like she had a “wedge-shaped/triangular shirt” on her instead of actual breasts?!?!?!?? That’s just bad character modelling in that case and one of the few instances where 2.5D failed in SF IV.
h) Retain opening game cinemas just as SF IV did. The Darkstalkers series always had some of the best game opening cinemas IMHO.
i) Don’t forget memorable backgrounds… This was probably another slight SF IV failing, too. Darkstalkers has to have that ghoulish, macabre, and gothic-style background style with the right coloring. This is another potential deal-breaker if it’s not handled well.
